El Shaddai Hands-On Preview: The Most Refreshing Thing I’ve Played All Year

Joel Taveras writes, "I know that some videogame writers are firm believers of the whole “no cheering in the press box rule.” And, to some degree, I can definitely see where they’re coming from. So with that in mind, normally when I attend preview events I’m all business. I say hello, ask questions, play the game — get in and get out. And that’s what I had planned with my recent demo session of El Shaddai, but it just didn’t work out that way well, because, for the first time in a while, I was too busy being completely blown away."

I hope this title gets some marketing, because it looks great. I was hooked from when I saw it at PAX East.

This looks to be a pretty unique game from a story and visual perspective. It will be interesting if it gets lost in the shuffle or goes huge with fans. Good preview.

I can't wait to check out this game. I've had an eye on it ever since the buzz from last year.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD Remaster (NS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Presenting El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron to a new audience and preserving it for future generations is a great thing, especially considering its cult status. Whether that audience will enjoy it is another matter entirely. Due to its cryptic storytelling, repetitive combat, and clumsy platforming, it doesn't quite escape the orbit of mediocrity. Still, there's a lot to admire, including exciting boss battles, impressive production design, and powerful music. If nothing else, it's an ambitious game with a singular vision. And that's something to celebrate."
