Ubisoft to Apply Assassin's Creed Development Model to Other Franchises

GiantBomb: Few could have anticipated Assassin's Creed would have been such a blockbuster right out of the gate, but Ubisoft found itself with a major hit. Since then, Ubisoft has refined Assassin's Creed into an annual, Call of Duty-esque franchise. In 2009, there was Assassins' Creed II. In 2010, there was Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. And later this year, Ubisoft will finish Ezio's story with Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

i guess we cant expect anything fresh from ubisoft

so basically Ubisoft is now going to annualize every game they make. There goes the any potential innovation, very bad news. This probably also means they may speed up production of new IP's and not give them the time it usually takes to start a new ip which will make them worse.

This maybe be a good short term business move but they need to learn that yearly releases will not work that effectively over time. COD works because it is an good FPS. I beg you ubisoft be more innovative and make great games not annual games

"so basically Ubisoft is now going to annualize every game they make."

Um no most of their games won't get that treatment only the franchises that sell well enough.

No Superman. Call of Duty works because its development model is not 1 year development time. Its given 2 years. Studio A releasing one and studio A starts on the next one while studio B finishes up their title for the next year. So its A 2009, B 2010, A 2011, B 2012. So each game gets at least 1 year and 3 quarters of the next one to build the game.

Ubisoft is smart with Assassin's Creed. They are basically spreading its development to every studio they can for a 6-9 month development. So it kinda works the same way. There is almost no time for polish though.

I guess the good side of this is we are going to see more Rainbow Six games and that rumor of a new Rainbow Six in 2011/2012 isn't far off from being true. I just hope its not slapped together and it goes back to tactical gameplay!

Assassins Creed has become Ubisofts Call of duty. Release the game and next year add in a little bit of new content and sell for maximum price.

Im sorry but if you could not see the badassery of this trailer before the game came out then there is something wrong with you. Of course that is back before it was announced on 360 so the graphics dont look like shite but still.

Who is the bean counter that made this decision?

I dont mind if its 1 story to be told across 3-4 games, thats fine.... but i hope they dont release AC jus to release them.. i hope theres an END to the story, if they do it like that then it could work, but if they are jus releasing them jus to release them then i think the quality of the game will begin to drop.
