360 Magazine: Why is the FPS is so popular and can it remain top dog?
Not for me.
Yea its an opinion really. I feel the same way, they aren't my favorite. If anything, my like for them has sunk a little because everyone wants to follow the route of Call of Duty. Even Killzone and Resistance whether people want to believe it or not. I still like these games, but they can be sooooo much better if they were actually different and unique. I really wanna try the new Operation Flashpoint game, it looks good.
Yep, Killzone 3 has several CoD influences and so does Resistance 2. Killzone 2 and Resistance were good because they were their own games and didn't implement needless features into their games. But first person shooters in general aren't "The Best Games Ever." The reson why FPS sell so well is because of it's longevity. Most people get FPS for playing online and for single player well that's mainly be developers insist on making crappy single player experiences so now it's almost expected that the Single PLayer portion of a FPS will be bad so people just antcipate the Multiplayer side instead. Now what's killing FPS is that nobody is innovating or staying unqiue. Everyone is taking unecessary elements form other games and puting it in their own game because they believe that's what consumers like. Killstreaks is not a must have, but yet you have TEAM based games like Killzone 3 adding it in because they think it will make their game more attractive. I've heard that Crysis 2 is a complete CoD knock off. How come the developers didn't just make their game for the fans of Killzone 2, Resistance 1, and Crysis 1? For their sequals they impemented CoD stuff and have nothing to show for it. Their sales didn't skyrocket or anything. It just seems like they only managed to piss of their fansbase, you know the only ones that actually give a crap about their games. I asked my friend who plays Call of Duty to buy Killzone 3 since it plays like it and guess what he said. "I'm not gonna buy even if it plays like CoD because I'm NOT a FAN of the FRANCHISE." Same goes for me. I will not buy a Halo game even if it plays exactly like Killzone 2 because I'm not a fan of Halo. Devlopers need to learn.
Sure, but only if the shooting mechanic's and gun selection are awesome and the story is really Good... Has to feel engaging and interesting.. FPS will never be the only type of Awesome Game, but when done right it can be a really huge Seller -Battlefield 3- I'm looking at you... no no no just no
sick of them to be honest, there is a rumour on neogaf that the sequel to warhawk called starhawk will be first person, i'll go mad if thats true.
Yeah for a flying game my preference is always 3rd person... love being able to see my plane... but maybe that's just me... .____........___...____ .____||......||.......____|| ||.........___||.......____||
HELL NO, not even close, Most over saturated game in the market and generation currently? YES
I think RPG/FPS makes for the best gaming combo for me. Crysis/Halo/Half-life/Elder Scrolls/The Witcher FTW
If well made it can. Bioshock was really good. Call of Duty:4. I know people might not agree on this one but Resistance: Fall of Man was awesome too.
each to their own but i back the japanese belief that you should see your character on screen. i've not nothing against fps fans, each to their own, unless there is some really immersive technology like in the movie minority report that comes out i'll always prefer third person.
FPS's are usually VERY limited in gameplay, and turns out to be the same thing over and over usually. Usually they have mere decent to bad stories.
Half Life shows what CAN be done with the genre.
360 magazine says what? they make for some of the most casual, easiest to make games. Are they the best? Opinion
FPS is bad-tier genre, above sports and party, but still pretty low.
Lots of shooters because it is a really easy game mechanic, and everyone already knows how to play.
One word, NO FPS games cater to the lower form of gamer, the gamer that likes to kill, blow things up and does not care about the story.
