GamePro: Divided We Stand on Dark Souls: Our Impressions

GamePro: "Like the game itself, there can be no compromise between gamers when it comes to Dark Souls. Just look at Ray and Justin, each of whom either loves or despises the original game in equal measure.

Regardless of our feelings though, a number of us here at GamePro jumped at the opportunity to check out Dark Souls when Namco Bandai dropped by the office to show it off. Given the polarizing influence of the original, it seems only appropriate that we offer as many takes as possible on what will be the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls.

One thing we all agree on though: it still looks hard. Very, very hard."

So.. the guy who didn't like Demon's Souls... didn't like it.

That's a good thing, in my book. Don't let that guy review it, please. I don't care about his opinion... at all.

Can't wait. Demon's Souls was one of the best, most engrossing games I had played in many years:) And if a reviewer doesn't get it, they don't need to. Enough already people do;)

I like the idea of these areas where players can meet. Like in Demon's Souls with the 'wisps', they're just there to add the atmosphere of the game. I reckon some will have some particulary hard enemies guarding them and it can be a little moment between players that they made it there. Would it imagine its a good place to trade items as well.

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
