Modern Warfare 3 promises 'unprecedented online universe'

CVG: Activision unsurprisingly has high hopes for this year's Call of Duty game, saying it will set a new standard in the genre and include an 'unprecedented online universe'.

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg talked up the next CoD game in the firm's investors call earlier today. "By any measure, Call of Duty is one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world and we expect this year's game will set a new standard in the franchise," he said.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turned out awesome. I would also not be surprised if it did suck. I mean, BF3 will obviously take the cake in at least several areas, but still. Activision doesn't roll over.

We'll have to see how this turns out. But if this is that "P2P" online they were talking about, then I'll be looking elsewhere. As it is already, I'll be getting Battlefield 3 and Resistance 3 for my FPS fill in late 2011.

But if this next Call of Duty is/seems fun, I wouldn't mind getting it. It'll be a rent-before-buy no matter what tho. They fooled me with the videos/trailers for Black Ops, and that bit me in the ass.

Nothing killed Halo 3 or Reach. You can add every online player in every Sony FPS exclusive and you still won't get the total amount of players in Halo.

Sadly this franchise has turned into the gta of fps genre. I bet this would still sell millions even if they do decied to have a monthly fee, and because of all the morons who will buy it anyways, look for every other company to start doing the same. We as gamers have the power to decide the future of gaming. Hope u COD diehards dont ruin gaming for us all by beginning a monthly fee just to play this franchise. There are plenty of other great games out there to choose.

How can you say GTA was milked? If Rockstar decide to announce a new game this year it will still probably only leave us with a fall 2012 release date and that would be over 4 years since GTA IV. If you go saying that the expansion packs were milking then that's just plain wrong considering the amount of content we got from them both.

By setting standards in the "genre" they're referring to the "milking" genre I presume and by "new standards" they mean breaking sale records I also presume. Anything else standard setting will be purely financial and most likely be nothing more than reasons for Kotick to gloat.
