GLaDOS, Wheatley, and fear in Portal 2 (Bitmob)

Portal 2 is hilarious, but its narrative doesn't hold up. Why? Because it took the fear away.

SybaRat5163d ago

I was terrified Glados would ask to be my friend. Does that count?

Never put a moron in charge of the technological future, no matter how cold the intellegent perspective may appear. Everyone has their place on a team that is destine to succeed, learn yours.

Interesting post but I totally disagree. I thought Portal 2's narrative contortions were amazing to watch and hilarious. I never really think of the series as based heavily around fear, either. A bit of dread, yeah, but mostly hilarity.

Agreed-- *MID GAME SPOILER ALERT!!*

When Wheatley became Glados I was pushing my stick back in total anxiety. I was honestly afraid of him because he was my friend, yet I was stuck in an elevator with a transforming, unpredictable maniac.

I have never had a game make me laugh and be afraid like that. Portal 2 is art: it really is like a Pixar movie in a game.

Urrakia345163d ago

For some reason I feel like that perfectly describes Portal 2.

ShadowArchangel5163d ago

I must me some kind of monster. I never felt Fear in portal. I woke up, a robot was talking to me, telling me. YO There's Science that way!

So I'm like, sure let's do this!

That's the magic of silent protagonist. You feel whatever you want to feel. I did the courses for the science. I guess other people felt force to do them. I actually enjoy solving this courses.

choadley5163d ago

It's like a super-hero movie series: The first one has the hero's main nemesis, but someone has to take his place in the sequel or else he'll wear out his welcome.

Shaman1455163d ago

I was actually kind of attracted to Glados. That was a damn sexy voice. Does that make me odd?

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_9246d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil46d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

TheEroica463d ago

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma313462d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados462d ago (Edited 462d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies
