Sob story: Why I'll be playing Child of Eden with Kinect - Joystiq

Joystiq: It seemed like a fine idea for a feature.

Armed with a early preview disc for Ubisoft's upcoming Child of Eden, I would compare the game's two methods of control, the good old-fashioned thumbstick and buttons and the newfangled Kinect method. Then, when comparing the scores for both, I'd have a pretty good idea of which method is superior.

So what was the problem? The fly in the ointment? ... Well, see, one of the methods made me cry.

Looks stupid, no matter what controls. Sorry, I thought I wanted this, but now I do not.

Funny, I now want it even more then I first thought...

Is this game just an on-rails shooter?

Pretty, but a bore to play. Just move the reticule around??

Finally, I seriously can't imagine even the most die-hard Kinect fan playing this for more than ten minutes. With Move? Not much longer if all you get to do is move a reticule.

I'm willing to bet the press will be in love with it. It will be proof that kinect can do hardcore to them I'm sure. Unless MS doesn't have the influence I think they do.

VampiricDragon_4888d ago

I wouldnt . Physical controls are apparently better. More responsive, less disjointed, less discomfort

BrutallyBlunt4888d ago (Edited 4888d ago )

Of course you wouldnt. Why would you after making several previous troll comments like this

"Kinect is an experiment that failed in everywhere but the US. And even US developers (real ones, not shovelware producers like ubsoft) do anything for it."

Do people such as yourself ever grow tired of saying things that have no impact? I am sure the Kinect version will sell quite fine and it will be because many people want to play it with a different experience. So you can either watch a movie like Avatar in mono or watch it in full digital surround for a much more entrenched stimulation.

VampiricDragon_4888d ago

everyone is entitled to there opinion. According to pretty much every preview. they start with kinect but always go back to the real controller.

Godmars2904888d ago

What does he mean by "a 10-minute trip?" Is that the length of the game? And its on disc?

cstyle4888d ago

Cant wait to try this game. Kinect version seems way more exciting than move IMO.

DigitalRaptor4888d ago (Edited 4888d ago )

That's funny. I don't recall ever seeing any footage/info from the Move version. So really, how would you know the Kinect version is more exciting?

And alongside Move compatibility, there's also 3D. Now seeing as though a big draw of this game is its entrancing visualisations, wouldn't the version that offers motion control AND immersive stereoscopic 3D be the more exciting version?

vikingland14888d ago

Godmars290 no it was an early preview disc

Godmars2904888d ago (Edited 4888d ago )

If its DLC, then isn't all the sadder to see PS3 and Xbox fanboy alike fawning over this thing? More so if the final version is only 10 minutes long.

Motion control has to be the most annoying thing introduced to gaming. Especially when its been presented as "The Future" when its more than obvious that it can't do everything.

Are video games art? Looking back at... Child of Eden

Jack writes: "“Are video games art?” This is a perennial argument, one with staunch advocates on both sides who are hard to sway. Naysayers, though, can be shown examples of art in video games that are hard to deny – such as the visuals of the sadly overlooked Child of Eden, released for Kinect in 2011."

Are the free Xbox Games With Gold titles for December 2017 any good?

Neil writes: "It seems rather strange to be saying this but 2017 is fast coming to a close. Before we start to party the night away and usher in 2018 though, the Xbox Games With Gold scheme has got one last surprise up its sleeve - four free games being gifted to all Xbox One and Xbox 360 players.

But hot on the heels of November’s offerings that delivered so much (or at least three of the four did), can the free titles being given away during the month of December match up to the quality, or are we being sent a few duds that refuse to let us go out with a bang? We take a look at the good, the tempters and the, well, ugly."

I purchased BTTF on PS3 at the tail end of the system's life. I enjoyed Episode 1 but life went on and I never finished. I'm actually pretty psyched about getting that one.

Prince_TFK2487d ago

You should definitely play Back to The Future. No matter what reviewers say, I really enjoyed this game. The story is awesome and the twist is just heartbreaking.
