PS3 gamers love fighting more than Xbox gamers if the latest sales figures for MK 9 are to be believed.
PS3 audience just enjoys a wider range of games :-)
Who doesn't? Don't answer that...I think I'm going to vomi... Edit: Below, you obviously don't have a 360. I'm pretty sure there is a tit for tat in comparison of games for each system. In other words if one system has a particular type of game, the other system has one that is comparable. I don't have a PS3 but I've borrowed one before and I really don't remember playing any games that weren't on the 360 that was similar. And since I don't have a PS3 I'm having a hard time thinking of any games that it has that the 360 doesn't. It would be easier to say "What genre of game is on the PS3 that isn't on the 360?". I'm drawing a blank though...
Well, the 360 D-pad is rubbish when it comes to fighting games. And I am talking about the stock ones and not the new ones that I believe cost around $65 (but please do correct me if I am wrong). Secondly, PS3 games have had a far wider rangs of different types of games than Xbox 360. Thirdly, and this is strictly my personal opinion that kids are known to love 360 while it seems to me that PS3 has a more mature audience. Again, i could be wrong but I get the feeling that kids simply love 360 at least in the U.S. and they also love FPS games. Xbox 360 fans love FPS games. Again, the controller could be playing a major issue here as most of the FPS gamers prefer the 360 controller instead of DS3.
Kratos on the PS3 is a big selling point. Too bad PSN has been down so long.
LittleBigPlanet 2, God of War, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, Twisted Metal, Uncharted 2, Infamous, Modnation Racers, etc. You were saying??
@Focker420 add Flower,Flow and heavy rain. Not to mention Sam and Max,Fat princess and Pain.
You are drawing a blank because your a brainless fanboy.
Haha the title made me think the article was talking about PS3 gamers arguing they are better than Xbox gamers. Then I realized it was about MK9 lol. Great game by the way!
BS xD what game does 360 have that is like Little Big Planet? Or Heavy Rain?
Well, what game on PS3 is like Tropico ? or Supreme Commander ? or Viva Pinata ? It just works both ways... like it or not, 95% of the audience likes the SAME GAMES. A few more people like FPS on 360 (probably due to the controller), and a few more people like fighting games on PS3 (again, probably due to the controller)...There's always a small difference in every genre, RPGs usually sell better on 360 (with one notable exception), sports games usually sell better on PS3, etc etc...
Also Xbox pad isn't really good for fighting games, it's common knowledge. (I'm not saying XBox sux and should cut itself with a soap or something)
i blame the 360's dpad it really is a pain in the a$$ playing 2d games
yeah its pretty obvious, even if the xbox gamers did like fighters alot they are almost forced to get the fighting game on the ps3 just because the controller is so much better for fighters
LMAO at you and hay above, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the d-pad on the 360 controller. I play MK9 with it and it works fine. Stop trolling.
I'm rather sure that no one is going to buy a $300 system for a fighting game when they can pick up an arcade stick for as low as $50. But yeah, the D-pad on the standard 360 controller is sh*t.
"LMAO at you and hay above, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the d-pad on the 360 controller." There isn't enough space between the stick of the d-pad and the casing on it. The d-pad IS badly made on the controller. Does that automatically make the controller bad? No. Is there much more worthwhile d-pads and other formats out there? Yes
"PS3 audience just enjoys a wider range of games " I call this BS. look for example black ops sell more than all exclusives PS3 combined.
Someone needs to go back to math class, GT5 anyone ? 6 mil in what ? 6 weeks ?
i dont even want to mention how wrong this is exactly
now matter how many exclusives the ps3 has, all my friends on PSN are playing Black Ops
It'll sell even more when PSN comes back up.
"PS3 audience just enjoys a wider range of games :-) " So your saying there isn't players who play only fighting games? I have never got that comment.. Both ps and x0 players play all kind of games, some wider, some more narrowed.
a lot of people who bought the game on ps3 are also multi console owners, if you own both 360 and ps3 its obvious that you would get it for sonys console, i hired the game out on 360 because i was taking it over to a friends place to play, and he only has xbox, the d-pad made the game almost unplayable, if i was going to buy it i would defiantly get the ps3 version for the controls and kratos. so if it sells better on ps3 thats not to say ps3 gamers enjoy fighting games more, its saying all gamers are smart enough to get the version that plays best.
Playstation, It only does fighting. (And please, don't make some foolish joke out of that -_-)
how to make a more follish joke than that
Playstation, it only does D-pad.
nothing new here xbox gamers prefer racing and shooting. ps xbox controller wasnt designed for fighting games
Agreed. As far as fighting games selling more, it's because the Xbox D-Pad is freaking trash for fighters. The DualShock has always been the next best thing down from an Arcade stick for years. The fighting hardcore still prefer high end arcade sticks though, which can be obtained for a variety of consoles and even the PC. Also, the other variety argument makes perfect sense too. The PlayStation brand since the PS1 has always been synonymous with variety of games and gamers. Frankly, there is something for everyone on PlayStation; it does not discriminate.
"The DualShock has always been the next best thing down from an Arcade stick for years." I would have to disagree with you on that one. the sega Saturn pad is widely knows as the best pad out there. and since the madcatz Fightpad is very close in design it would be next with the DS a distant 3rd.
whered you get that BS last i checked ps3- racers shooters fighters rpgs 360-some rpgs shooters and racers are the lowest
BS indeed when he said racers sold better on 360, but really, fighters and racers sell pretty well on 360, not as good as on PS3, but it kinda compares to how RPGs and shooters sell better on 360 but still sell well on PS3 :D
Shooting yes but i won't say racing. Racing games sell the most in europe and the PS3 is doing better there than the 360.
Tis true, I remember some great fighting games on PSone (Street Fighter Alpha zero 3, DOA 2 , Ehrghiz, Toshinden, Tobal, Tekken etc.) and I guess that has stuck. This was way before Xbox was born.
Well, PS3 gamers probably have been buying more games recently to make up for their lack of online time on Call of Duty, Kilzone etc.
yeah cuz i guess blazblue, sf4,mvc3 SC4, tekken etc all outselling their 360 counter parts b4 psn went down was all in preperation for when psn goes down right.......noob. I play fighters more than shooters, there are just to many shooters this gen, and thats all xbox has.
How foolish of you sir to suggest 360 was a shooter centric console, and pretend that the ps3 was not. If anything, ps3 is more shooter centric, with the best shooters appearing exclusively for it. (Mag, Killzone 2 and 3, Resistance 1, 2, and 3, and other fps while excellent games such as Socom 4 and UC 1, 2, and soon to be 3 take up the tps side)
Wow and i thought the internet had done everything it could to paint them DOOMED,...LOL.go common sense.
I think u can also thank kratos for being such a bad azz and fits perfect in mk. As for the 360 version, kinda sux when no cole train or marcus fenix to represent the 360 version.
And 360 owners like RPG's more judging by the sales of Oblivion, Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2, Fallout New Vegas. They also like shooters judging by the sales of well, all shooters this gen They also like sandbox games judging by the sales of Mafia II, GTA IV, Read Dead Redemption and pre-orders of LA NOIRE. Adventure, sports/racing/fighting and JRP games sell better on ps3 Shooters, WRPG's, Adventure-sandbox games sell better on 360 Hey what happened to platform games this gen? What multiplat platformers are out there?
No ps3 owners just enjoy crappy games like MK9!
And now Vgchartz is right, when you don'tlike its figures it's wrong, lol
Maybe because the PS3 D-pad doesn't look like it was designed by an aborted fetish like the 360
You mean "fetus"? If youre going to troll at least learn how to spell properly, lol. I bet you've never even used a 360 controller, which works fine, theres just never any reason to use it as the main movement outside of fighters.
lol ya fetus I was typing fast. Yes I have used it its great for shooters but horrible for fighting games.
Because PS3 gamers enjoy new and old school games, 360 is all about the shooters (But hey the controller works pretty well for shooters to). Anyways, no matter what system you are on, Mortal Kombat is a must get.
VG charts? oh please....If anything people are buying the game for the console with working online. The controller could also play a big role but it's been out for a couple of weeks for crying out loud.
doesnt look that way bud.
Says who? the person who relies on VG numbers? Get out of here lmao! We all know the real numbers are a month away.
I don't think it's just Kratos MVC3 was like that as well.
It's the mix of Kratos and the d-pad. I prefer the 360 controller over all but the PS3's d-pad is why I bought Sony's version.
People who question VG Chartz. It' s estimated figures - we all know that - but even with a margin for error, the fact remains the PS3 version sold more than the Xbox version.
Ok so lets see here. The article uses only 2 examples of fighting game sales to come to a conclusion that PS3 gamers prefer fighters over 360 gamers.... o.O Mortal Kombat 9 has exclusive content on the PS3 version. That could be the reason as to why the PS3 version sold more since multi console owners out number single console owners. In other words, those that own a 360 may have bought the game for the PS3 because the PS3 version is giving "more" for the same price as the 360 version. As for the other example the author gave, "Super Street Fighter IV" lets break down the sales for that "Japanese" developer game. 360 sales - JPN 72,620 PS3 sales - JPN 176,292 See a difference there? The lack of 360 support in Japan CLEARLY had an impact on total the total amount of Super Street Fighter IV sold on the PS3 vs. the 360. The Sales of the PS3 version in JPN were 71% of the total sales while the 360 version were only 29%. See how the differences of the sales between the 2 games are much smaller in other areas. 360 sales - America 440,607 PS3 sales - America 582,748 The PS3 sales were only 57% of total sales while the 360 had 43%. Almost even. In order to make the broadly generalized claim that "PS3 gamers love fighting more than Xbox gamers" you need to do much more research using more than just 2 games within a certain genre. The lack of 360 support in certain countries and the possibility of exclusive content for particular consoles could result in why 1 game sells more on 1 system than the other.
Dumb reasoning. The article is looking at total sales worldwide, not really breaking down console popularity by region. FYI PS3 version of MvC 3 sold more than Xbox Tekken 6 PS3 version sold more than Xbox Pretty conclusive if you ask me.
Well Shadowmask I am sorry to read your comment "Pretty conclusive if you ask me." since it clearly isn't. Not if you have any common sense. I notice the games you mentioned are developed by Japanese developers. MvC3 - Total World wide sales = 1.5 million (sad) 360 sales - .52 million PS3 sales - .63 million Difference of .11 million Total sales in JPN = 123,805 Total PS3 sales in JPN - 99,595 Total 360 sales in America - 24,210 Difference of 75,385. Now remember that the TOTAL WORLD WIDE SALES of MvC3 is 1.5 million. Of that total, 75,385 more PS3 sales of the game came over the 360. That a HUGE difference when the total sales of the game is just 1.5 million. Clearly region DOES play a role when the 360 is almost non existent there. As for Tekken Total world wide sales = 2.89 PS3 sales in JPN - 172,583 360 sales in JPN - 51,595 Difference of 120,988. Once again, lack of sales of a console in a particular country has a direct impact of total overall sales. You can't make the claim "PS3 gamers love fighting more than Xbox gamers" because how many of those sales are from multiconsole owners? The title is implying PS3 only players prefer fighting games over 360 only players. Well of those sales given in the article, how many of them are "ps3 gamers" and how many are "360 gamers"? You don't know since if sales are from those who are multi console owners, then they are both PS3 and 360 gamers since they game on both consoles like me. I bought MvC3 on the 360 but I bought MK9 on the PS3. So who am I? Am I a PS3 gamer or a 360 gamer? In order for the article to make any sense, you need to know the sales of PS3 ONLY owners and the sales of 360 ONLY owners. Then you can determine if PS3 gamers really prefer fighting games over 360 gamers. It's not rocket science here. It's just straight up logic with common sense.
Regardless of region, the fact remains that more fighting games are sold on PS3 than Xbox 360. Why argue against this?
The_Ultimate_Guy is taking this harder than expected. He won't be able to sit on his butt for a week because it's so hurt.
Its a shame then, that the guys on ps3 can't actually play it online ;op
I play Soulcal with that new controller but I can easily work the stock one. If you don't mine me asking whats special about the Dual Shock.
As a dual console owner - here is why I got the PS3 version of MK. D-PAD - I am sorry to say the 360 D-PAD sucks for fighting games. Only a fanboy would say it does not not and that it is not an issue. I had SF4 for 360 and it was unplayable with the D-PAD. I had more success with the analog stick. It does not come down to PS owners prefer fighting games. Kratos and the D-PAD made the choice obvious for dual console owners.
Well thats the thing it feels ok with me to be honest. Well I have both the stock and the new controller. Maybe I just have to try out the PS D-Pad once.
Well what can u expect theres always some kind of annoying FPS game thrown at us every single year. I personally would most definitely play a fighter over FPS. But what can I say little xbox fanboys just wanna play shooters 365 days of the year. (Yes I'm dissing my own people)
I bought MK9 for 360 but if I had a PS3 I would have possibly gotten it for that seeing as how the controller's layout seems a lot more "made-for" fighting games, compared to the 360s. So honestly it doesn't surprise me sales are higher for fighting games on PS3.
Wait... MK9 came out? I have been playing... Portal 2.
i think both are the samme , but ps3 have more brutel games , not alots of people like tekken in xbox360 but in ps3 alots of people love it and im with them :)
Flame me if you wish but i think it's because the PS3 controller is better for fighters. Just works better more comfortable.
I own Mvc and mk on ps3....oh I have an arcade stick..couldn't find an arcade stick for the 360..my suggestion...if u are a real fighting game fan..then you will invest in arcade stick..then it doesn't matter what console you buy it on..I couldn't play any fighting games w/o the arcade stick now that I have one..trust me, invest in an arcade stick for whichever console, and get out of fanboy wars regarding genres..so dumb
a most on point comment. its funny hearing folks argue about which pad is better for fighting games. both pads are shitty for fighting. i have a tekken 6 stick for my ps3 and a hori HRAP for my 360. never looked back. that said as far as pads and fighting games go, only the saturn and the snes had controllers that were up to snuff. and i give it to the saturn overall because of the six face buttons. the d-pad on the madcatz is pretty unresponsive..i have a guile edition pad but i only use it for 2D arcade games like mega man...i use my stick on final fight double impact though ...adds to the nostalgia! Wish joysticks came with coin slots!
