Sony Online Entertainment has said that while their databases are "distinct and operated separately," there's bound to be a "degree of architecture that overlaps."
This meant that the hackers behind the PSN intrusion were likely the same that hit SOE, as the Sony arm notes they were "similar in nature." PSN remains down.

I thought it was odd they left SOE alone. They must have planned it so that Sony was getting ready to put the network back online attack again to delay it further.
"the attack actually exploited a “known vulnerability” in the web application server platform used in PSN. According to the Reg, Hasejima admitted that though it was generally known, Sony management were not aware of it."
Umm... yeah.. that speaks highly about Sony's current security group.
