The PSN Facebook Page: Your new source of facepalm

If there's one thing I've learned from this whole PlayStation Network downtime, it's that console fanboys, stupid as they are, can always get more stupid. This has been proven on the PlayStation Network Facebook Page, which has been a terrific source of free entertainment since the PSN went offline.

I knew just reading the intro to this article that it must have been written by Jim Sterling. I am starting to think good ole Jim Sterling is under the impression he is the only "proper" gamer/human being on the planet.

I mean this guy does nothing but whine and moan 99% of the time about anything gaming related.

PSN Facebook page? Maybe Destructoid should take a look at any article that hints at the PS3/PSN having problems, on N4G. A lot of LOL's right here.

But seriously. How immature can some people be? Blaming Bieber? Bin Laden? Xbox rants on a PS3 page? It's one thing to troll, but it takes something special to do it and fail miserably.

I know many here dump on Jim Sterling because he supposedly gives "low" scores to Triple-A titles, but few journalists directly confront the fanboy head-on like he does. There are intelligent gamers out there, and there are also many, many more that are borderline retarded. As pointed out by the jaw-dropping facebook page.

Except he really does not tackle fanboyism as a problem but rather quantifies fanboyism based on his own tolerance. He acknowledges that there are fanboys from nintendo and microsoft but he puts the sony fanboys as the absolute worst(his opinion.

This in some ways will legitimatize every non-sony fanboy to become even worse because, no matter how bad they are and how stupid the comment, their specific lack of association with sony determines that there is no way they can get any worse as fanboys and that the absolute worst are sony fanboys.

This does not address the issue at all. Instead it clearly flamebaits the sony camp and both the nintendo and microsoft camp come to defend. Because even if the argument against sony is stupid, its more legitimate because they are not the worst fanboys.

Its damning a specific group instead of addressing the entire problem as a whole.

I cannot take Jim seriously because I know he really does not report news, he draws attention to a subject or group, insults that subject or group, and later says that its his opinion and has done nothing but report news.

The fact is reporting the news requires a certain amount of fact and a lack of personally charged opinion to convey it properly. And that is exactly what he fails at. He does not leave his ignorant and asinine opinion to himself but glosses it over the content and polishes it to a spit shine.

The guy should not be even remotely considered a legitimate journalist but rather a blackbelt in trolling with a second degree in flamebaiting.

Couldn't agree more. I have a few issues with him, namely his willingness to drag gaming journalism down into the gutter where he, most likely, acquired his "degree in journalism".

The other problem would be his sugar or shit reviews. It's either a 10 or a 2 with him and the bulk of his reviews are usually filled with his problems, instead of useful information on the game being reviewed.

Please post an article in which he states that Sony fanboys are the worst. Even that first comment is complete rubbish. Quantifies fanboyism? Do tell me how you or any other Journalist "tackles" fanboyism. They don't. Sterling offers a sharp, satirical point of view when it comes to defining console gamers and gamers in general.

You're reacting humourlessly to this article, as if it were up for the pulitzer price. Well it isn't.

Feel free to read every cookie-cutter article posted here or on IGN that offer scores from 6-10. The man has a voice and he's pissed many people off. Sometimes, that's what needs to be done. You may not agree with his stance on certain games. I certainly don't agree with his scores for Castlevania and Vanquish, but do I lose sleep over it? Hell no.

Lastly, how in Gods name is this even a flamebaiting article? He's pointing out, rather obviously, that the gaming community as a whole can be immature, reactive and instantly gratified. It isn't directed at you as a Sony fan, or even Sony. So why has it offended you? It doesn't make any sense.

At the very least, you've disagreed and replied. Those that haven't replied probably found themselves in that article.

What's wrong with calling out fanboys when they act really stupid?

As far as calling out PS3 fanboys as the worst of the bunch, well PS3 fanboys earned that reputation by the way they act.

Yes, yes, all fanboys are bad. But that doesn't mean some aren't worse than others. I'm a PC fan and I know that PC fanboys can act stupid. I know that Wii and 360 fanboys can act stupid as well. Nobody, though, is as consistently rabid and irrational as the PS3 fanboys.

I'm not saying that if you are PS3 fan you are automatically a frothing at the mouth fanboy, just as I am not saying that if you are a PC, Wii or 360 fanboy you are a saint. There are plenty of horrible 360, PC, and Wii fanboys. Likewise, there are plenty of fair-minded and rational PS3 fanboys.

Nevertheless, as a group, PS3 fanboys are the worst. Wii fanboys, at the other end of the spectrum, are generally the best-behaved.

The only people that disagree with this are either:
1. PS3 fanboys themselves.
2. Suffer from a misguided political correctness that makes them want to believe that all fanboys groups have to be equally as bad as each other.

The latter belief is completely absurd. It's like claiming that all criminals are equally as bad. In reality, however, some criminals are indeed worse than others. Everyone would surely agree that a murderer is worse than a thief, for instance.

Any given individual fanboy can be as bad as any other. But as groups there are definitely differences that any honest observer will notice. Nobody will ever convince me that, as a group, Wii fanboys are as bad as PS3 fanboys. And if Wii and PS3 fanboys are different from each other then wouldn't it stand to reason that other fanboy groups would likely be different from each other as well?

Are you ever at a party or similar social gathering, and your group of friends is joined by that one guy? Nobody likes him, but everybody seems to know who he is. Somebody invited him, but not one of your friends will own up to it. He's obnoxious, he's annoying, he's oblivious to the sour atmosphere he inspires, and the worst part of it is ... nobody has the balls to tell him he's not welcome.

That's pretty much how I feel about Sony fanboys.

You see, Sony fanboys are the worst ones. Don't get me wrong -- Nintendo fanboys, Microsoft fanboys and PC fanboys each have their irritating quirks and infuriating mannerisms, but the Sony fans truly are the worst of a bad lot. In a barrel full of rotten apples, they are the most putrid, festering, blackened pools of mulch at the bottom. Everybody knows this, but like that one "friend" at the party who everybody is too polite to shun, nobody has dared to tell Sony fanboys that they are truly the pariahs of society and need to stop hanging out with the rest of us.

Fortunately, that's why I'm here. Read on as I present my case, and tell Sony fanboys to get the Hell out of our party.

Rational people who read my work will understand that I criticize Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo with no real preference or "bias." If one of those publishers screws up, I give them the verbal dressing down they deserve. All three of the major platform holders have, at one time or another, been criticized by yours truly. In fact, if you're keeping score, you'll notice that I'm probably more spiteful to Microsoft, since I find their actions the most shameless and despicable, while with Sony it's more frustration and pity.

However, if you listen to the regular crop of Sony loyalists that sometimes invade Destructoid's comment section, you'd think that I was Sony's worst enemy, driven by an unquenchable thirst for the destruction of the PlayStation brand and everybody associated with it. I have often asked myself: Why is it that criticisms of Nintendo and Microsoft do not get met with such hostility? Why do I get called "biased" against Nintendo and Microsoft far less than I do with Sony?

There is only one answer: The Sony Defense Force is by far the most aggressive, the most obnoxious and, of course, the most defensive. Let's look at some evidence.

Third-party exclusivity has been one of the big battlegrounds of this generation. As exclusives outside of first and second party studios become more rare, such elusive gems as Metal Gear Solid and Mass Effect have become more precious than water in a desert. Naturally, the arguments over who has the best exclusives and which games are going multiplatform has been a hot-button issue among gamers.

So, what happens when a previously exclusive game goes multiplatform? Well, if you're a real gamer who gives a shit about a quality game series, you'll be happy that the game is going to be enjoyed by a potentially wider audience. If you're a Sony fanboy, however, you'll form a petition and get incredibly upset like a little bitch.

Devil May Cry 4 is a perfect example. Originally a PS3 exclusive, Capcom made the wise decision to put the game on the XBox 360 as well, and fans were furious. Sony loyalists famously boycotted the game and launched a petition, begging Capcom not to betray them. One fan asked the publisher directly, "What are you thinking, Capcom?" The petition still exists, with 12345 signatures attached.

According to the petition, the PS3 fans "Feel very left out in [Capcom's] decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games." Yes, somehow Sony fans felt "left out," as if they somehow weren't getting the game as well. This seems to be a running issue with PS3 fanboys, that if a game goes multiplatform, they somehow act as if they're not going to be able to play it, and many of them choose not to, demonstrating just how much they actually care about playing videogames. To them, this whole thing is a melodrama about loyalty and trust and having publishers bend to their every whim.

Similar issues happened when Square Enix sensationally revealed that Final Fantasy XIII was going multiplatform. In fact, there's a petition still running for that too, though with significantly fewer signatures. When FF XIII was announced for Xbox 360, forums online went apeshit with Sony fanboys declaring Square Enix "traitors" and vowing never to play the game. Never mind being happy that a classic RPG series was potentially going to increase its fanbase, these so-called gamers were more concerned about having an exclusive to brag about online. It's never about gaming with fanboys, it's always about petty point-scoring.

This is true of all fanboys to a degree, not just Sony ones, but so far I've seen very few examples of 360 and Wii loyalists being quite so pathetic as to petition and boycott and whine and cry over a multiplatform game. I did a search and failed to find a petition about BioShock, Castle Crashers, Lost Planet and Dead Rising. Four previously exclusive games, all headed or heading to the PlayStation 3. If such petitions exist, they clearly didn't gain much ground.

Simply put? Xbox 360 fanboys might be dumbasses, but they don't throw little girly tantrums when they "lose" an exclusive. I've certainly seen 360 and Wii fans upset because a game ISN'T coming to their system, but I'm yet to see much evidence of them screaming because a game IS coming to their system and simply happens to be going to another one as well.
