Gamer's Guide to Life.com, Tuesday 26th April 2011: Guerilla was goo, but Armageddon could be amazing. GGTL writer Andrew Whipple III lists a few improvements that Armageddon needs in order to rise above its parent.
GGTL: "Destruction is a beautiful thing. Whether it be by rocket, crazed mech, or old-fashioned sledgehammer, there's nothing Red Faction is afraid to present in pieces. In just about a month, Volition is taking us back to Mars to begin the demolition anew with Red Faction: Armageddon. Though the last Red Faction title, Guerrilla, was a fantastic return to form for the dormant series, there are a few key matters that Armageddon needs to focus on in order to surpass its predecessor."
"When Volition and THQ pitched this game, at least some of the THQ executives came dressed in robes and had owls with them"
Today publisher Deep Silver took to X (formerly Twitter) to follow up on the announcement of the closure of Saints Row developer Volition.
Who knows...maybe we see a remastered SR2 after all and a new studio that makes good SR games again. Still..thanks a ton Volition for the excellent Punisher Video game
We will keep making money off of these by giving them to new teams with zero experience with them.
I'd love another Saints Row game but I can't see it happening after the response to the reboot.
I enjoyed the Saints Row reboot and i hope we see more titles in the franchise.
I'm very happy to know the SR and RF franchises won't die. RF was a revolutionly fps at the time and loved the 4 og SR games.
The developer of Saints Row is closing it doors this week.
Kind of sucks, but to be understood. I feel bad for the talent there who fall due to the decisions of the few and not because they aren't good at what they do.Hope those who deserve it land safely with other teams.
It was a shell since most of the original developers left years ago. They haven't made a good game in 10 years imo.
It still sucks though. R.I.P.
It's a shame for people to loose their jobs but these guys did make fun of gamers for pointing out how bad this looked rather than taking criticism on board.
What the hell were these guys thinking
They didn't just ruin their studio they literally tanked a franchise.
As long as it allows me to dig tunnels all day long as in the original Red Faction, I'll be happy.
Guerrilla was the only RF game I played... well, I'm still playing it, had to put it on hold to get some science done.
Very fun game though, and pretty underrated... almost nobody ever talks about the game.
"make the environments varied, not at all like those found in Guerrilla."
Agree 100%, this is one of the only things that slightly annoyed me with Guerrilla. I'm not sure how the exterior of Mars can really look all that varied, but at least with the underground they could get a little more creative. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I didn't have too many other complaints about Guerrilla (so far) but some more mission types, online co-op, maybe some customizable vehicles would be nice. And obviously the graphics could use a little more polish. Guerrilla looked almost like a late 6th gen game.
Look at what made the orginal good.
