thanks 4 url interesting read but all old after this rebuild its back 2 square 1

Soldierone5168d ago

Dont believe it though. This is too easy. A network as large as PSN and this hasn't happened for 6 years? Either it has been hacked before and Sony never noticed, or hackers over think simplicity.

Istanbull5168d ago

So Turks hacked the PSN? Why would Turks hack the PSN? Turks love Sony! If it is true, I feel ashamed...

FanboyPunisher5168d ago

The hack was because of Custom Firmware letting the hacker use the developer network.

PSN has been around 6 years, but Custom Firmware hasnt; thus why this attack as so effective.

sonnyz5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

This has nothing to do with custom firmware or pirates. This is a completely different form of attack.

As for this supposedly leaked log, it's most likely fake since StreetskaterFU has openly lied many times over the years about hacking the PS3. I wouldn't believe a word this loser says. Move along folks. We have more important things to discuss than this garbage.

AyeGee5168d ago

Fuckin AWESOME. My girlfriend was a victim, how lovely.. and we had things planned out, now she had to cancel her account.. looks like we won't be going to Chattanooga. I'm so fuckin mad.

HappyGaming5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

@Istanbull

Because Turkish people are thieves and they even try to steal Greek islands...

Stealing CC details seems like nothing to them.

Even your name Istanbull is the name of a country that was stolen not too long ago from Greece :-/

BlackTar1875169d ago

well like with everything the youngins are pretty smart at what they set there minds to. Naive and immature but pretty smart anyways

darthawesome905168d ago

Not that hard to believe. There are lots of little Einsteins out there. Lucky genius bastards. lol
Wish I could've been born a genius.

e-p-ayeaH5169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

lol the hackers left their IP´s in the log

Go get them Sony!

BlackTar1875169d ago

wow really that is a big mess up.

Coffin875168d ago

Just a suggestion out of the dark.. they were probably behind some proxies when posting on that site.

HappyGaming5168d ago

Ok if I was a hacker could I go buy a pay as you go dongle with pre paid Gygabytes and use that to hack whatever I want than through it away and burn the sim?

Sure my PC would leave behind its own signature or something but the IP would simply be 100% untraceable right?

They would just know that I am one in a 100,000 people in my town.

DoomeDx5169d ago

I do IT.

With an IP alone, you cant track them direcly.

Honest_gamer5169d ago

I do IT, computer science and multi media degree atm and yes u can track via IP infact its not even that hard, and why do people somehow think doing stuff trough a proxy server means they cant be detected? For instance the section of police im trying to join (digital detectives, track paedophiles etc online and find there address trough the ip address) use a software that just sees right thought the proxy servers, and a quick Google search shows u can track an IP address and 100’s of websites that u put the IP address in and it shows u where that person stays, and yeh I know IP addresses change all the time, if it’s changed before u can look then u have to phone up the ISP companies and get them that way as they keep a record of it

Capdastaro5168d ago

@Honest_gamer

Then you should know all about ingress filtering and engress filtering and how proxys have little to do with this.

IPs can and have been spoofed here its very obvious, hackers are not dumb enough especailly on this level of hacking to use proxies.

goalweiser5168d ago

@Capdastaro

You say they are not dumb?

Yet they chat about this on irc? They illegally access people's information on somebody's online infrastructure? I wouldn't doubt for one second that they wanted this to leak so they could use it as propaganda to incite gullible people into thinking this is Sony's fault.

Not dumb you say?

Saladfax5168d ago

Morally bankrupt perhaps, but their skill implies a certain level of intelligence.

Well, nah screw it: dumb as a bag of hammers.

gamingdroid5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

The weakest link and what protect the hacker is the proxy. If you had enough information to translate the proxied ip to the real ip, you can track them.

However, this isn't trivial especially if the proxy doesn't keep logs and no other traffic relays keep them either.

However, there are far many "free" wifi hotspots like in Starbucks any malicious hacker can use and then it your only hope is somebody remembers/recognizes the person, there was a camera or if they bought something with a credit card.

Nothing on the internet is anonymous if you put in enough resources into it though... It's just if what you find is worthwile and useful.

hay5169d ago

Every self respected hacker uses proxy.

Eamon5169d ago

Was just about to say that. lol

joeorc5169d ago (Edited 5169d ago )

the proxy will not save you from the No Such Agency teams. from their Head Quarters puzzle Box.

"More times than we can count, we've made history, without history even knowing we were there."

THEY WILL FIND YOU THAT IS WHAT THEY DO THAT'S WHAT THEY DO BEST..you cannot hide from them you will be caught.

TheIneffableBob5168d ago

Or just mooch off somebody's else network.

Coffin875168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

You have NO idea how a proxy works, do you?
Or for example the Tor network.

silvacrest5168d ago

its funny how its the simplest things that can prove the most difficult to deal with

a hacker could just cruise around a residential area with his laptop, look for a idiot with a unprotected wifi connection, and do his thing

any thing he does will just lead beck to that network and the private IP within that network

Hell Yeah boys in black be kicking some doors in soon.

Shadow05169d ago

You do know that it's possible to make a fake Ip. Or and Ip that cannot be tracked.

JoelR5168d ago

I love people like you ... you make it so easy to track :)

bviperz5168d ago

You watch too much movies Shadow0. Big Brother is always watching.

Zashule5168d ago

You do realize the 'Hacker' IP address in the article is actually the IP address of the US Department of Defense right?

"IP address [?]: 214.1.211.251 [Whois] [Reverse IP]
IP country code: US
IP address country: ip address flag United States
IP address state: Ohio
IP address city: Columbus
IP postcode: 43218
IP address latitude: 39.9968
IP address longitude: -82.9882
ISP of this IP [?]: DoD Network Information Center
Organization: DoD Network Information Center
Host of this IP: [?]: nhlem-wsa-dp.med.navy.mil [Whois] [Trace]
Local time in United States: 2011-04-27 00:04"

Steriophan5168d ago

http://www.ytmag.com/farmal...

Looks like a Mike had the same adress in 2007...

If you look at the log posted on all the pages about that Ip adress you will see that most of the lines end up with a return of HTTP 404 (File not found).
This is a smaller security leak but not the one that has caused all of this...

goalweiser5168d ago

Just adding more fuel to the fire. If these guys get caught, we may never know about it. They might not make it to court.

XRider5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

Before you hit dissagree and run away maybe you should start clickin.

http://www.google.com/#scli...

http://whatismyipaddress.co...

http://www.hidemyass.com/

Do you disagree trolls even know what a proxy is?

KotC5168d ago (Edited 5168d ago )

LOL Xrider just owned everyone who hit disagree. LOL are you guys just scared or too dee dee dee to click the links? I have about 4 or 5 programs that hide my proxy. I'm sure it's pure denial keeping your hand from clicking, truth hurts.

sourav935168d ago

Now you click on my link and read. Don't "hit disagree and run away"....

http://www.practicalecommer...

J_Cob5168d ago

@XRider What sourav93 said. The proxy server stores your information. I'm no hacker but I suspect you need to find a way to access the internet itself without the providers knowledge. That way it would be much harder to trace. If you pay for internet they have your information. When you connect with that internet they know. The proxy server saves your IP and where you're going. They'll correlate that info to find you. I'm just guessing but it makes sense.

Legion5168d ago

More then likely the hackers left someone elses ip in the log. Not difficult to mirror ip's and routing to get into a system. Your ip will never be seen. Don't imagine the movies where the heroes back track the ip to the hackers home.

If that IS the case then it is just a 14 year old not thinking straight. If it is anyone that actually hacks then they will not be revealing their own ip. Count on it.

Pjuice5168d ago

and on someone Else's wireless network.

UnNaTuRaL15168d ago

Yeah a ip from some random wifi hotspot. You think a hacker with the knowledge to do what they did would do something stupid like that and use their own ip address. LOL you gave me a good laugh!
