Remove "Xbox 360" and "PC". This specific piece of news is about Portal 2 on the PS3; there's no reason for the 360 and PC tags.

This is great. Sony needs to make every upcoming game uses this. If these pathetic hackers never tried to hack the system. Sony wouldn't have to do things like this.

movements4755d ago

That's good news. Sorry hackers.

GrieverSoul4755d ago

If you go by the usual "homebrew" sites, you see all those cry babies cursing Valve and Sony for this. Its like they have a right to play these games on their hacked systems.

I know they will find a way but its just sad that people take this software piracy issue so lightly.

Soldierone4755d ago

Poor babies...I feel bad for them. Wait no I don't. Want to hack? Dont update who cares, its your choice.

Wanna play online and enjoy Steam? Update. End of story.

RankFTW4755d ago

Been on 3.60 since it came out so no big deal for me.

MaxXAttaxX4755d ago (Edited 4755d ago )

And I don't think it has anything to do with hacking, really.
Here's what it does:

- Allows PlayStation Plus subscribers to store up to 150 MB or 1000 game save data files online, whichever comes first. This includes 'copy-prohibited game data'. Such data is restorable once every 24 hours.
- Now allows a choice of 10, 20, or 30 minute power save feature for automatically turning off controller.
- Changed Friends List sorting.

dantesparda4755d ago (Edited 4755d ago )

"Changed Friends List sorting"? what exactly did it change/do?

MaxXAttaxX4755d ago (Edited 4755d ago )

I supposed you'll have to press 'triangle' on your friends list for the mini menu to pop up and see.

RankFTW4755d ago

It now sorts your friends by capitilised first letter then by small first letter, kinda messed up the alphabetical order it used to be.

Commander_TK4755d ago

Hacking can also be used for good things, u know...

Zydake4755d ago

why does have a tag for 360?

HolyOrangeCows4755d ago (Edited 4755d ago )

Didn't PSP use this method in a lot of games? You had to upgrade to the latest firmwire, which was on the game disc some times, didn't you?

Pfft, with 25GB or 50GB available, more should use this method.

EDIT:
Wait....is the FW on the disc? If not, that's a load of BS for gamers without an internet connection.

MaxXAttaxX4755d ago

You can still download the update from any computer and transfer to your PS3.

saladthieves4755d ago

Prevent hackers from playing new games: check!

Rival_314754d ago

@Holy:
The update will be on the disc. I think that's how it's always been if it requires the update..

GameSpawn4754d ago (Edited 4754d ago )

@NathanExplosion
"Hasn't this update been out for a while already?
And I don't think it has anything to do with hacking, really."

3.60 also included the final bit of security fixes to completely implement a white-list for pre-3.60 security software and games.

Between 3.56 and 3.60 Sony changed the encryption, decryption, and signature keys to be able to black-list the compromised keys and kill the "Jailbreak" CFWs. This is why hackers haven't upgraded beyond 3.55 and keep trying to spoof their way onto the PSN. This is also why they would be mad at Sony and Valve for this Steam restriction.

fr0sty4755d ago

This probably has less to do with the hackers than it has to do with Sony integrating steam directly into PS3's firmware. A sign of things to come.

MaxXAttaxX4755d ago (Edited 4755d ago )

Hmm very good point.

Anyway... yay, only a few days till Portal 2!

ReBurn4754d ago

Yes! Two more days and my copy is already paid in full. The two for one deal is awesome, too, as I'll be playing on my PS3 at home and on my Mac on the go.

Valve rocks so hard.

Thecraft19894755d ago

Yes its good news but they already did this before anything happened. New firmwares use newer things that may have been including in the firmware to help devs.
An example would be Sony making XMB use less ram so developers have more play with for games.

My point is that eventually pirates will left with no future game support even they get the 3.60 npdrm keys.

So they will left with all that amazing home brew and linux support they ask for. While we all play amazing new ps3 exclusives.

Graphics4755d ago

Warprincess are you 10 years old?

And why is a game needing 3.60 mandatory update news? I guess N4g turned to N4p.. News for Pirates.

theonlylolking4755d ago

N4G-news for gamers.

So that means this is the kind of news "gamers" want.

Serjikal_Strike4755d ago

I'm ready...
cant wait till tuesday!

psb4755d ago

I hope those filthy pirates can never make a custom firmware for this one, so that Sony doesn't need to release another security fw update and we can all live happily evert after.

Also, Warprincess, bubbles for you!

fluffydelusions4755d ago

Good, keep the scurvy pirates away from this gem.

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma31334d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Friendlygamer34d ago

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

Friendlygamer33d ago

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies

I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name41d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno41d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno41d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure40d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

valve suck so much at making games now, opting just to smaug on top of an enormous pile of money,
that fans got so desperate that they have to make their own games.
this industry is fucking over.
