Is a 2012 Wii 2 launch too late?

EuroGamer: A 2012 launch for Nintendo's next home console could already be too late, so says industry analyst Michael Pachter.

Following reports today that Nintendo is planning to take the wraps off a successor to the Wii at E3 in June, ahead of a late 2012 launch, a number of industry experts have given Eurogamer their verdict on what we might expect from the system and the challenges that the platform holder will face.

It doesn't matter TBH. Wii is still selling quite well and anything Nintendo releases is almost a sure thing. They don't use cutting edge tech so they profit from the start. So whether they release tomorrow or next year it doesn't matter.

I agree I am expecting the Wii HD being more inovative than a graphical powerhouse. It will sell and if the can get the casual market on board again it will sell very well

6 years is a good run for a system. By then we will know the rumblings of a new xbox and possibly a new playstation.

very true and sad the wii2 shouldn't sell but it will people should buy a ps2 over a wii but they dont fn sad. Well mabey wii 2 can play dvd's or just mabey it will have those new things called hard drives lol.

i dont know dude. its kind of hard to maintain the same popularity with one console to the next.

one or the other will be more popular. it wont be the same.

so wii2 will either outsell wii1. or wii2 will not perform as well as wii1 in terms of sales.

coming up with new gimmicks is always a risk, doesnt mean it will hit the mainstream all the time.

Oh lord, psychic pacht again...lol. They may not launch next fall...they could launch in the spring for all he knows. But can we at least see it, read about it with 100% facts and let the media touch it first? This business is getting less about games these days. LOL

For a guy who's incredible educated, he doesn't have the slightest idea what Nintendo is about.

It's not too late. All they really need to do is beat MS to the punch.

Woulda worked great with the Wii, if it had launched in 2005, and the 360 in 2006 -- the 3rd parties would have taken MUCH longer to start investing huge sums into HD gaming, if the Wii had made the splash it did before there was already a HD console on the market for a year.
