Does Hardware Equal Innovation?

We are in the longest console hardware cycle ever, the PS3 has been around for five years and the 360 for six. In a recent interview the Ubisoft CEO said that's the reason the industry is in a depression. Really? Would new hardware fix the game industry's creativity problem? Does it need fixing?

There is no lack of creativity in the industry, there are a number of new IPs coming out this year. Ubisoft has been a bit loudmouthed lately

Simple answer, no! It's not the hardware that makes creativity but the creative minds of the software makers. We are just in a time when they are playing it safe. It's not a hardware issue but a creativity issue.
