China bans computers to fight online gaming addiction

Incredibly, Chinese authorities are taking steps to ban access to computers for all first year University Students.

"At Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Hubei Province, no freshmen including, those who major in computer science, are allowed to own computers. The school shut down the freshmen dormitory network, and, freshmen are not allowed to log onto the Internet without permission. "

If you control the information, you control the people. China is clearly waging an informaion campaign to deprive it's people free-access to information on the internet.

The term "gaming addiction" is a ruse for communist control tactics.

I do think it partially has to do with what you said... "control of information" but I really think that China wants high productivity and gaming limits productivity. China sees it as a direct threat to expanding to make China the largest economy in the world. From a control of information standpoint... I don't see much China has to hide from its public except maybe a little human rights violations.
