148apps: If there were a genre of game that seems a perfect fit for the iOS platform it would have to be turn-based tactical role playing games. When you meld that perfect style of touch interaction with a science fiction based universe it would be hard to argue that the developers are not onto something that could be very successful, not to mention lucrative.
Don Parsons writes: Generally speaking, when you buy an iPhone game you really don’t know what you are going to get. You can read the description, look at screen shots and get your hopes up; only to be smashed with a game that is fun for about an hour or so. With Hunters: Episode One, a $0.99 app on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, you’re getting far more than an hour’s worth of play time.
Hunters: Episode One isn’t really a full-fledged game, which you should be able to take away from the title. Instead it’s a sampling of what is to come or what could become depending on how the developer Rodeo Games follows it up with. It’s short on story and heavy on action – which is actually perfect for pick-up-and-play.
TouchArcade: Those of us who grew up with the likes of X-Com and Jagged Alliance have long been waiting for something — no – anything in that vein to come up in the App Store since its inception. We've seen plenty of turn-based strategy games come and go, but nothing has captured the RPG-centric squad-based tactical combat we've been yearning for (save, perhaps for the recent release of Tactical Soldier – Undead Rising). Hunters: Episode One [Free / HD] wants to scratch that slow-moving turn-based itch and does so by offering you a few maps for free.
