FFXIV free-to-play until 'plan for improvement' is set - Square

Final Fantasy XIX Online landed on PC in September last year with a 30-day free trial in place, but Square is yet to claim a penny from players over six months later, and says it won't do until firm plans for improvements are in place.

I'm sure they'll start once after the PS3 version comes out, cause they're not going to give all those guys a free pass too. Everyone bailing doesn't depend whether it's free or not it depends more on the quality of the game.

Sweet, if it's free-to-play for the foreseeable future, I may just buy it. I saw it for 20 bucks yesterday. I'll probably buy it this week, then. I hated the beta. And I mean *HATED*. But I figure it has to be at least slightly improved now, right? For 20 bucks, I'm willing to find out.

Well at least they are working on to fix it . The rerelease will most likely go with a bang and lots of pub once they fix everything

They are putting too much efforts to just drop the ball, you can still play it for free until they fix it! A MMORPG it' s a long-time investment.

I think we will se FFXIV launch on PS3 in fall 2011.

PS: I agree with zackacloud, PS3 lacks MMOs at the moment, FFXIV is very important for both Square-Enix and Sony.

i doubt because sony cancelled 2 MMO titles mybe square will relize that MMO bring a lot of money on ps3

Sony won't cancel it, but I believe from a while ago, Square was putting a hold on the PS3 version since the PC version is still shit. They probably don't want to release it for the PS3 just yet when it hasn't been fixed at all for the PC and they'd just lose a ton of money in the end since no one would want to buy a broken product.

I'm looking forward to the PS3 release too. The only thing I'm worried about is if it releases too close to FFXIII-2, Versus XIII and Type-0. By the time it comes out for PS3 I'm expecting monthly fees to have been implemented, and I can't afford to keep paying for this game while I am playing all the other single player FF's + games that are coming out for PS3 / NGP!

I just got back on it since I knew it was free. When they add the subscription back I will most likely quit unless some more changes happen. Also people need to come back. I played around for 1-2 hours last night and didnt see a single shout or anyone talking.

I don't know anything about this game but if you play and level up quite a lot as it gets better, you won't want to quit once you need to start paying so it sounds like a good decision.

Final Fantasy XIX is alright, but XVI will always be my favorite. Nothing could top it's epicness!!

Kidding aside, I played 14 for about two weeks when I used my friends account. I never got into it. So I don't really care if it's free to play or not. I just want a good game.

this is squares chance to redeem themselves. I hope to be reading in reviews one of the best or the best final fantasy experience I have ever had when the ps3 game hits.
