So, Should You Buy A Nintendo 3DS Or Should You Just Wait?

That’s the eternal question many of you may be asking, should I buy a Nintendo 3DS right now or should I wait?

Well, that depends (obviously) on your economical situation and other factors, but let’s see which are the main advantages and disadvantages of buying a Nintendo 3DS right now

I bought it, loving SSFIV and Ghost Recon and all the features that come with the thing can make me wait till May when we get the eShop then only one month after that we get Ocarina of Time and The Mercenaries.

its natural to condone to one self, and desperately try our best to defend the property we own, however, this is no time to buy a 3DS whatsoever...

wwm0nkey4764d ago

For me it was the right time because I am content with the offerings as of now.

Is it the right time for everyone? Nope.

CommonSense4764d ago

i think it's pretty obvious that within a year we're going to see a new model. probably one with much better battery life. i'm very interested...but imma wait til either that happens OR they get some games that truly make the system worth owning.

TBM4764d ago

For its not worth it as im not going to force my already bad eyes to focus on a small 3in screen especially with eye hurting 3d effects.

I can only tolerate 3d on a big screen like movie screens for only a couple of hrs at most.

Warprincess1164764d ago

Why would anybody buy a 3DS when the NGP comes out later this year? With all these problems with the 3ds. This handheld is gone to be flop. I hope Sony is watching the mistakes nintendo is making. I don't want the NGP to fail

wwm0nkey4764d ago

Its already sold a very very decent amount so much so that its Nintendo's fastest selling handheld and those problems like the black screen are not very common at all, not to say they dont exists, but its basically like the YLOD, it happens but not often like the RROD

The 3DS is not going to flop and to think so is very ignorant.

newn4gguy4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

It won't flop, but I think its days are numbered. Not only will Nintendo fall behind technologically...the NGP looks to trounce it in even the software.

The 3DS is NOT selling. Give me your e-mail address. I'll send you pictures of my Walmart. We've sold one. Yes...one. I'll even timestamp it.

People don't know it exists...and the people who do aren't very interested.

wwm0nkey4764d ago

Your lone Walmart isnt the only store in the world you know...

Stealth20k4764d ago

sure nintendo has just sold 2.5 million in 1 month at launch basicaally..........

the ngp wont even be able to keep up sales wise

pain777pas4764d ago

I don't care about sales per se. I will be getting both. 3DS is not ready for prime time yet so I am saving up and holding off. NGP is my handheld for my demographic. 3DS is for nostalgia only. NGP will be for full featured gaming on the go. I have a feeling that if they put 512 or a gig ram in this thing we will be looking at a serious contender for primary gaming platform for some people. Nothing will get gimped. Think about ME 3 or a Skyrim port to NGP which is now entirely possible. Hell they could do spin offs as well. With the touch interface NGP could be the best platform for a game like ME when making tactical decisions. I know that they should release GT4 online day one on this with some of the PSP cars and stuff. NGP is the system that will serve me well if supported. Console gaming for me will not stop until next gen when the casual push goes out on all 3 major players. Right now NGP is the last bastion of hope for me as a old school game player. Its got every thing I want and controling a steering wheel using the back pad may be the best thing that could have happen for the GT series on the go. Heres to hoping. 3DS though will definitely be a success. I will get Zelda SSF4 and RR unless the latter 2 are and will probably announced at E3 for the NGP and will have no sacrifices in any regard whatsoever.

Baka-akaB4764d ago (Edited 4764d ago )

give it up , every console we got some dude who can swear no one buy a given console at his local store .

And well everytime we dont care about that dude's store .. but the bottom line .

Bottomline is ? It's selling faster than previous iterations .

I prefer the ngp too , but some people are trying too hard , and hoping like lunatics that the 3ds fails

eagle214764d ago

show me ten good ngp games..I'm ready for a laugh. Is uncharted ngp being made by Naughty Dog?...NO. I bet it will still be a solid game but that irritates me personally. Resistance ngp is being made by the studio who made the FLOP Move Heroes. Insomniac isn't working on ngp, nor is Guerilla games. I don't care for COD or hardly any EA games.

3DS has an insane amount of NEW games announced as well as classics. Like I said..name them..then I'll name the games that will keep 3DS on top.

Strictly speaking it's always a good idea to wait for a console to settle in. Paying 599$ for a PS3 was eventually worth it, but it didn't fully kick off before the price was dramastically lowered. Waiting for the competition to arrive would of course be wise if you're considering both, but if you're really enthusiastic to get your hands on the 3DS then go right ahead. Nice article as it does say pretty much that.

Neko_Mega4764d ago

I'll wait until I see if there is any game I would play on it, I want to see more about Mario but haven't heard anything.

Plus not really into the 3D on the 3DS.

newn4gguy4764d ago

I have a 3DS.

You should all wait. Not only do I not play in 3D anymore, but I'm back to mostly iPhone games.

It's a good system, but it's not worth trading in an older DS for yet.

I'm selling mine to a friend. I'm just tired of playing rehashes. : /

NGP is reserved and I couldn't be happier. ^_^

70 percent of devs unsure of live-service games sustainability

With so many games fighting for players' attention and interest losing out over time, time sink games are at risk of eventually losing steam.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

CrimsonWing6916h ago

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

shinoff218315h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg14h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

MIDGETonSTILTS1714h ago

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.

The Battle Pass Is The Worst Thing To Happen To Modern Gaming

Nameer from eXputer: "Some exceptions aside, I don't think the battle pass is a net positive for gaming with how they're implemented in most live service titles."

got_dam18h ago

Battle passes AND meta gaming both.

DivineHand12517h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I like the way Helldivers 2 does battle passes. It allows you to make purchases on each level of the battle pass and gives you the option of choosing which item to unlock first. The more purchases you make using medals the further you progress. There is no timer and you can earn medals towards purchasing stuff via personal orders and Major orders.

I haven't played much live service games that have battle passes but I remember some games that have battle passes where you progress through it linearly using an exp system. What makes it really bad is that the battle pass will have like 50 or more levels with the cooler stuff being closer to the end. They also have an in-game shop that sells exp boosters so you can reach the end of the pass before it refreshes. Everyone ilse will have to grind their way through.

lucian22916h ago

battle pass in fortnite is perfect; buy one and it buys the rest for every other season as it gives you more money than the first cost. so 8.50 and season ends with you getting 13.00, it pays for the next and you have some pocket change to save up for cash shop. All of which is optional
