Halo 3 Harbinger of GTA IV Sales?

With $300 million in sales in its first week, Halo 3 is living up to the market hype (and giant marketing campaign).

But there's another juggernaut looming: Take-Two and Rockstar's GTA IV. Could the success of Master Chief's latest shoot-up be an indication of the potential sales from the latest entry in Rockstar's iconic franchise?

Well, previous GTA games have outsold previous Halo games but back then GTA was PS2 exclusive (At least timely). This round, GTA4 is coming with all the hype on 2 systems and I honestly don't see a reason why one should miss this game. It's GTA and it's from RockStar. Can't wait.

nearly 40% of all 360 owners bought halo 3.

I see this game selling more PS3's than 360. Due to the fact of the outstanding 2008 lineup. People wil see how much more value the PS3 will have due to their superior game selection.

Whoa there Xi,something a lot of people take out text there.The only downloadable content exclusive to the 360 is episodic content.The PS3 will have downloadable content just not the episodic content.You can check if you want.

Clearly you are touting the 360's superior current library. However, I am disagreeing with your reasoning. If this were entirely true, no one would buy a next gen console (PS2s for everyone). Also, many people bought the 360 in anticipation of games such as Halo 3, Fable 2, Assassin's creed, PGR, Mass Effect, GTA IV, etc many months before their release dates. Hmmm, example of people buying a console based on future library? Oh, yeah, that's right, it is.

wow...talk about a N4G battle...lol...this was definitely one of MS's smarter moves, no matter the cost...I predict 3-4 million on day one across both PS3 and 360 in the US alone...a 'Halo 3' moment...dare I say bigger...moment...anyone else care to predict? Rockstar might release a third trailer either before Christmas or soon after at the beginning of new year...or a TV ad during the Super Bowl, who knows...

It will push 360 units for sure. It will push PS3 units for sure. But with prices nearly identical, Sony can edge out the lead on this if they're smart.

Keyword, if they're smart. They would need to convince consumers on how great a multimedia device the PS3 is or else GTAIV will sell more on the wider known XBOX 360 (in america).

In this case if Sony wants to see a spike in sales, Joe Consumer must see the PS3 as more of a bang for your buck. Or else they'll go with 360 with the more established base plus downloadable content.

Halo 3 sales are a harbinger for any well made shooter for the 360 that is properly marketed. PGR and Forza are harbingers for any well made racer on the 360 that is properly marketed. Oblivion and Mass Effect are harbingers for any well made WRPG on the 360 that is properly marketed. Heck, almost any kind of game will sell well on the 360 if it is well made and properly marketed. Every developer looking at 360 sale's numbers should feel a little better about their prospects on the console and invest more in it. Conversely, any developer that's thinking of going exclusive on the PS3 is going to take a long hard look at the money they'll be giving up, because 360 game sales are real numbers, not projections.

Along those lines, I expect Konami will be paying close attention to 360 sales of Assassins Creed and Splinter Cell to figure out how much money they could be leaving on the table by not doing a 360 build of MGS. My fearless prediction is if AC makes a f#ckton of bank on the 360, Xbox will be saying hello to Mr. Snake. Yeah, yeah, I know all about Kojima supposedly not wanting that to happen for whatever strange reason, but if AC makes boku bucks, he can't deny that his company, his co-workers and their families stand to benefit from the financial windfall of a 360 version (the Japanese care a lot about that sort of stuff). Is Kojima really such a self-centered and pissant c#ntdiva that he would place his personal whims ahead of the financial well-being of his company and his co-workers? Well, we'll just have to see. **pre-orders several copies of Assassin's Creed for himself and to give as gifts**

it's GTA IV, without a shadow of a doubt...it's not just software, it moves a considerable amount of hardware, for Sony in the past...they released the slimline PS2 the same month as San Andreas...coincidence? NO...

so Microsoft and Sony will benefit from a hardware perspective on GTA IV...how much? who knows...but this is the game that moves in the US and UK...the GTA franchise has already sold over 50 million units, most of those on PlayStation platforms...

Yeah it will definetly sell more on the 360 because the PS3 install base will never grow right..??...Im pretty sure GTA4 will move more PS3'S off store shelves than it will for the 360...and im sure Rockstar will put some PS3 exclusive content in also...PLAY B3YOND..!!!

remember this is x-box 360 last GTA and also it their last chance to play on their system so let them say whatever they like, anyway I think there will be extra contents for ps3 as well as 360 even though peter are so naive to show off the tattoo of GTAIV on the his arm to tell to consumers that 360 will have exclusive contents of GTAIV, well he might be right about exclusive but I think it just time exclusive for the contents
