IGN Tomb Raider Trilogy Review

Three of Lara Croft's adventures for the price of one.

tigertron5157d ago

7.5? thats crazy, the trilogy is worth more than that. Hell, legends definatly holds its own in 2011, thanks to the HD makeover.

despair5157d ago

looks alone don't make the score, the games themselves have to hold their own on all fronts. I don't see a problem with this score or review, it makes sense and the reviewer explains what was good and what wasn't to justify his score.

Plus 7.5 means if you like the game type then its worth it for you, but if you don't really like the genre that much then it will not pull you in like say UC2 would. I'm getting it, I mean $40 for 3 good games and 3 plats to get, count me in.

ShinMaster5157d ago (Edited 5157d ago )

Well each game scored higher than that individually.
So I don't see how all three put together could score any lower.

despair5157d ago

Considering the length of time the games have been out and the quality of games offered now as the benchmark, its plausible to have the score lower than initially for each game. Remember its reviewed by today standards not when they were initially released.

Myst5157d ago

Being that I only played Underworld I'm thinking of perhaps getting this one soon hopefully.

gravemaker5157d ago (Edited 5157d ago )

They didn't mentioned low fps in Underworld, many bugs and glitches. You can't spell ignorant without ign

ShinMaster5157d ago

Didn't they fix that for the Trilogy? no?

gravemaker5157d ago

i afraid no, underworld run pretty bad, low fps all the time, thats event without mentioning glitchy as hell animation and jumping mechanics

ShinMaster5157d ago

Oh wow. I haven't played Anniversary yet, so I might give it a try still.

ipe5157d ago

ignorant

- its not full price, its 20 pounds i assume 40$ in us
- 3 solid games for 20 pounds cant be 7.5 no matter how u spin it
- eurogamer gave it 9 with reason

ChristianGamer5157d ago (Edited 5157d ago )

I just bought Vampyre Rain for $4. I guess that makes it a 9/10 game?
Yeah thats how retarded your logic is. Games aren't rated on price, they are rated according to FUN and how they perform relatively to other similar games. This trilogy CANNOT score the same as GoW 1&2 HD plain and simple
@#5 below. they gave Legend 8.2 WHEN IT RELEASED ALL THOSE YEARS AGO!!
Do you honestly think if they re-reviewed it today they would still score it that high?? It was an 8 then, it isn't an 8 now because standards have CHANGED.
You people amaze me. Would you be happy these companies just re-released 2006-standard games and have the media lap it up??

jammydude5157d ago

Yeah, I hope that's not what he meant by that. His other points still stand, though, as this is an uncharacteristically low score for the game and it is indeed not full priced

Raendom5157d ago

They gave Tomb Raider: Legend on 360 an 8.2...

Has it suddenly dropped to a 7.5 by adding 2 extra games? :\

plb5157d ago (Edited 5157d ago )

No, it dropped because it's on PS3 and IGN are reviewing it.

@below never said 7.5 was bad but anyone who frequents that site can see the obvious bias of IGN.

Chaos Striker5157d ago (Edited 5157d ago )

Or maybe after you take off your tinfoil hat and read the review, you would understand the faults of the package. Additionally, I never knew that a 7.5/10.0 is considered "bad'.

****@plb, refer to my post below regarding an extract of PS3/PSP games IGN reviewed. Also, listen to Podcast Beyond and then tell me if they are not the most biased PS3 fanboys ever =).

jammydude5157d ago

Chaos, those are very handpicked reviews you cite.

Chaos Striker5157d ago

Would you like me to PM you a comprehensive list instead? I will say, that it will take a while, because there are a lot of very good scores =P. Also, you will discover that IGN's scores are either inline with the metacritics/gamerankings average or even higher in many cases.

PS5 Pro Console 4k Reveal Trailer – PlayStation 5 Pro Announcement

Admin note: We are allowing this submission as it provides a 4k trailer on YouTube and we have to link to an IGN article. Thank you Purple101 for the submission.

Sony has announced the PS5 Pro, an upgraded version of the PlayStation 5 capable of higher frame rates, better ray-tracing, and improved graphical fidelity."

Petebloodyonion241d ago

I recall in the past, my friend attempted to demonstrate the superiority and importance of using an S-video cable for PS1 games compared to the original RCA cables. He would pause the game and switch the video output settings so I could notice the differences.

or it reminds me of the 1080P vs 900P debate.

Honestly even at 4K I can barely see the difference aside frame rate.

Visions of Mana Dev Reportedly Being Shut Down by NetEase

Chinese video game company NetEase has reportedly laid off most staff at Visions of Mana developer Ouka Studios with plans to shut it down altogether.

Old McGroin254d ago

Damn. Picked it up yesterday, really enjoying it. Didn't even realise Netease were involved with it until I first booted it up and their logo popped up.

thorstein253d ago (Edited 253d ago )

Time to sail the seas with this one.

Chocoburger254d ago

How awful. What should have been a moment of celebration for the dev team, turned into an terrible day for them.

"The game that you spent years of your life on is finally out for people to enjoy! ALSO YOU'RE ALL FIRED!"

F you NetEase. I'll only remember your company name so that I can avoid it in the future. Hopefully S-E hires the these talented people and gives them more games to work on.

TGG_overlord253d ago

NetEase sucks a** with no doubt.

jznrpg254d ago (Edited 254d ago )

Lame. I just bought the game but have it held at the post office since I’m out of town.

Why not let the game have a chance in the wild before shutting them down.

vTuro24254d ago

Well fuck you too, NetEase.

Snookies12254d ago

Wow... Okay... I'm going to go out of my way in trying to avoid purchasing any NetEase game from this point on. It's one thing to shut them down if the game failed on sales. But this hasn't even had a chance to sell yet.

Old McGroin254d ago

Definitely. What if a Netease game is released that needs a few patches to get it up to scratch but there's nobody to do it because they shut down the developer? Best to just avoid.

Michiel1989253d ago

exactly the reason I'm never gonna play Marvel RIvals, they did some of the most shady shit with that game.

IGN Instructed & Offered Prizes for Crowd to Cheer During Phil Spencer and Other Live Interviews

During the IGN Live interview with Phil Spencer, the crowd cheered even if the topic was about closures, and its because they were told to.

Just reading this headline alone made me feel grimy. Disgusting, all around. Haven't trusted IGN since over a decade ago, so this isn't really surprising to hear.

Leeroyw332d ago

IGN lost a lot of credibility a long time ago. Now they're running on fumes.

MrDead331d ago

MS are buying up the industry so you need a compliant media to tell you how awesome consolidation and mass layoffs are... and they know MS is IP hunting too, they will be cut off from review copies of some of gaming's biggest IP's if they don't play ball.

peppeaccardo331d ago

The only way they can rise excitement in a crowd is paying for it. LAMENESS is MIcrosoft best product to date.

Skuletor332d ago (Edited 332d ago )

I think that kind of thing night be standard. I once was in the audience for Wheel of Fortune and there was a guy that briefed us before the show on his hand signals, when we were supposed to react/applaud and stuff like that and we were told to check under our seats because one of them had a prize underneath it.

Edit: Okay, read the article, this was definitely some slimy behaviour by IGN and it sounds like it wasn't just on the behalf of Xbox either.

Also, since IGN bought Humble Bundle years ago, they stopped occasionally giving a game away for free during certain big sales events etc, screw IGN.

Profchaos332d ago

It is for say a game show or similar shows for entertainment purposes but a interview not really.

Petebloodyonion332d ago

Bruno Rodriguez confirmed that his statement applied to the entire three-day Fanfest event, not solely Phil Spencer's interview. Regrettably, this part of his response is absent from the article, which raises questions about its omission.
Here is the complete explanation
https://x.com/BrunoRo115301...

DarXyde332d ago

Petebloodyonion,

It is an odd omission. While I do believe IGN has some problematic biases, one can't really say it's done for Spencer in light of this information.

Good follow up.

Inverno332d ago

IGN not being trustworthy? Yeah we've been knowing that.

GaboonViper332d ago

I remember when they gave Alien Isolation a bad review because the alien AI acted like a actual Xenomorph which was free to do what it wanted and hunt you down, and docked Days Gone points because it had a white female as Deacons Girl, oh and they have one of the worst fanboys in Dustin, he has no shame whatsoever.

Inverno332d ago

Don't forget "too much water". It's like they hate hire people that hate their jobs. This is a people problem, when people aren't humbled they become full of themselves. IGN and other news publishers have been given too much sway, and too much preferential treatment. They forget they're meant to inform the people, and have instead become a tool to sell an image these companies want to portray. Perception of power and authority and influence corrupts people.
