Deadly Premonition Sequel isn’t Likely According to Ignition

Hell Descent: In an interview with Shane Bettenhausen, New Business Development Director at Ignition Entertainment, a sequel to the cult classic Deadly Premonition does not look very likely.

“I would say the IP rights and kind of like the content rights of Deadly Premonition in general make it difficult to imagine a full, real sequel ever happening. I would love for that to happen, but I don’t think that will happen. However, Swery and Access Games, I would love to work with them again.”, so says Mr. Bettenhausen.

I would of bought it but it didn't come out on the ps3 so oh well.

banjadude4925d ago

Same (would have bought it)... I was hoping it would eventually make it to PS3, when it was announced for the 360...

dgroundwater4925d ago

This is a fantastic game and PS3 owners in North America should get a shot. I hardly believe porting this would be a large investment, and it's 360 launch was successful enough. Anything that builds interest in a SWERY game would be good news.

Organization XII4925d ago

Yeah Xbox 360 wouldnt handle it - they canceled the whole project.

Just like how the 360 cant handle 24+ players in BF3, while PS3 can easily pull some 32 players.

Visari4926d ago

Luckily, the game was garbage so there is no need for a sequel.

ultimate-remag4925d ago

r u really dead?? jus wonderin? lol

BubbleSniper4925d ago

i heard it was the shit.

it not your typical game... i do not care for XBOX 360 but that one game i would want to play hehe

Lionalliance4925d ago

It was sooo bad, it was awesome!

floetry1014925d ago

Visari, you are a close-minded pseudo-gamer that probably loves the same churned out AAA titles with a new coat of paint. Let me guess, Killzone 3 will be your game of the year?

Deadly Premonition was better.

I imported a Japanese copy of the game for my PS3. The dialogue remains intact, but a number of the menus are in Japanese. That said, the game was still very playable and I managed to finish it without too many problems (used walkthroughs twice for parts I couldn't understand).

danielle0074925d ago

Well, that's okay. I don't need a sequel. Just make a new IP and make it as amazing as you did with Deadly Premonition.

Srsly. <3 Kthx.

ElementX4925d ago

Deadly what? I've never heard of it

Kran4925d ago

Crap game. Many people find the game so bad that it makes it good. When you're trying to actually reach to some gamers, you need to actually make a good game.
I have a short attention span, so everything in the game annoyed the hell out of me because it was just that awful.

danielle0074925d ago

I disagree. This is an amazing game, especially with the fact its a budget title.

It’s sooooo janky but the story is so good and the agent is so quirky I loved it thouroughly, the story is that good that you can actually make it through all of its jankiness and issues .
It’s a diamond in the rough and rough is saying lighly.
This game deserves a remake out of any game I can think of .
If they fixed the combat ,driving and movement this would be one of my favorite games all time and it already is in a way.

The first time I turned on my flashlight was one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a game. His suit just sort of lights up. There's no physical flashlight in his hand--hilarious. It's also the only game I've played to truly capture the delightfull quirkiness of Twin Peaks. I'm with you on how much I like this game. Despite all of its flaws, it's a genuinely fun experience. "My coffee warned me about it," is probably my favorite line of all time in any video game.

I still haven't played the sequel, but I will some day.

I enjoyed this back during ps3 days. I'd buy it again if they re released it fixed up a little. I had fun with it.

ok I believe that Deadly Premonition 2 scene described in the article, takes the cake! Although one could argue that there are so many memorable ridiculous moments in this game.

Wish the F.E.A.R. franchise would get resurrected.

COG Considers: Why Are There So Many Games About Killers With Split Personalities?

This week on COG Considers, we tackle one of the most tired and unpleasant tropes in horror games: why games--and every other pop culture avenue--are so determined to paint people with Dissociative Identity Disorder as murderers.

Surprised killer7 isn't mentioned. This was the central premise of that game

KDblack1436d ago

Killer7 was mentioned, but only for one sentence because it's the central premise of the game. There wasn't really a need to go into detail.

gamerben1435d ago

Oh woops didn't catch it. Sorry mang

mastershredder1436d ago

Are they? You are fixed on Japanese games that are anime based/fashioned. Perhaps if you were not playing games that are similar to the animes that inspired them you would have more/different experiences.

When Cliche and Troupes are the building blocks, you can’t expect much. Just like you cannot expect good case study when the tester/observer has practically no variance in test subjects.

Sooooo many horror games out there... you really gotta explore some more.

KDblack1436d ago

I am aware! But games like Outlast or Remothered aren't really doing anything different, either--the most you could say is that Outlast hammers in that not all mental patients are dangerous. Just some of them. It really isn't just anime-inspired games that are doing this, even if you're counting Deadly Premonition among them. Bendy and the Ink Machine did it with Alice Angel, Krieg from the Borderlands games is this but played for laughs, and Dog/God from Fallout: New Vegas' Dead Money DLC is another example of both murder and weird, unrealistically rapid closure. This article was inspired after seeing one too many indie games on Steam with the premise 'discover the inner world of this tormented killer with DID.' Trust me when I say I'm exploring all kinds of horror games, and even outside those boundaries, because this is a really wide-reaching pattern.

That said, if you have any recs for more interesting/less stereotypical usage of characters with DID, hit me up.
