Sony to cut PS3 prices in Japan and launch new 40GB model

Dengeki and Famitsu report that the 20GB and 60GB PS3 in Japan will receive a price cut on October 17. Japan will then get its 40GB PS3 SKU on November 11, without backward compatibility but with the rumble controller. Two colors will be available: clear black and ceramic white.

[The Dengeki and Famitsu reports, in Japanese, are listed under the 'Alternative Sources' section below.]

Updates: According to Reuters, Sony announced it would lower the price of the 20GB model by 10 percent from 49,980 yen ($428) to 44,980 yen ($385) on October 17. Sony will also start selling its 60GB model at 54,980 yen ($472), which currently retails for around 60,000 yen ($515). Sony will launch the new 40GB model at 39,980 yen ($343) on November 11.

They are in Japanese, but I made a note that they are listed under Alternative Sources... but anyway, the mainstream has already picked up this news and reported it. I've updated my link to Reuters.

whoa, they get ceramic white again. :(

nasim6034d ago

THEY get DUAL SHOCK 3 as well.

plus price cuts on ALL MODELS

sure this would help see ps3 soar past Wii but expect price cuts and new PS3s in NA too

EZCheez6034d ago

I like the white one better.

Gahigiddy6034d ago

And that's it for Wii. Although it does have SMG releasing just before that, so hey, we might not even see PS3 sales overtake Wii that week, but beyond that, it's truly over.

The king is dead! Long live Playstation!

Genki6034d ago

Hopefully we see a silver version sometime soon, and I remember seeing a modded red one a while back, looked fantastic.

Wow. Sony is going to kick some ass all over...

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai18h ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing695h ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle4h ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal3h ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

Abnor_Mal7m ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

He did a track guide for Neurnberg 24 in GTsport.

We have had no more content since then, maybe a few time trail modes, I believe there was one from Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstapen as well, due to the red bull partnership.

Back to Lewis, He STILL wears the Gran Turismo logo on his caps, every weekend Formula One races take place.

I was expcting more from this sponsorship, oh well. This video, is kinda rubbing salt into the wound, for me

That Driver tutorial still haunts my dreams. That parking lot saw me fail a thousand times
