Rockstar: BBFC decision a "setback for video games"

Rockstar has issued an official statement following this morning's decision by the BBFC not rate the revised version (read that as toned down) of Manhunt 2.

"We are continuing to appeal the British Board of Film Classification's (BBFC) decision to deny the edited version of Manhunt 2 an 18+ certificate and thereby ban its release in the United Kingdom. The changes necessary in order to publish the game in Britain are unacceptable to us and represent a setback for video games.

The BBFC allows adults the freedom to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in movies and we think adults should be similarly allowed to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in video games, such as Manhunt 2."

i find it interesting that countries that have the most censorship have higher rates of violence than ones that dont, like Holland who gets the game completely uncensored.

I hope Manhunt 2 never sees the light of day in Britain. Rockstar are simply making the most brutal game they can in order to get sales. I can guarantee the majority of Manhunt 2 owners will be around 12 years old. They clearly won't be the ones buying the game but stupid parents will happily buy it for them. In case you were wondering. I am 22 and live Finiston, Glasgow. I see everyday at work and in the streets just how stupid and violent Scotlands youth has become. The problem continues to get worse when you consider the average age of parents in a typical family in Glasgow Cardonald etc are 14 years old. I could go on forever i'll just stop and some it up,

The average British person does not have the mental capacity to distinguish right from wrong.

Don't argue when Glasgow has the highest crime rate in Europe with a population of only 578,790.

If the ratings weren't such a big deal, no one would really know how brutal the game is and end up not caring.

The only reason it will sell well because of the violence is that the ratings made it need edited, which became big news. Were it not for the censorship in the vido game industry, no one would care about how violent the game is, just like movies are, with no one really caring about how violent a movie that's rated R is.

The majority of gamers who play this game will be minors, worldwide, not just in the UK. However, I disagree with Rooftrellen. That is not the ONLY reason why it will sell, it helps but it is not a significant factor in sales.

So much for freedom. RockStar FTW. Sad for UK gamers. Hope the people finally understand that there are way more dangerous things in this world than games.

People in Europe complain about the US censorship of music and television, but then they don't get the games ;)
