Dreamcast Collection Review - "More like Nightmare-cast..."

GameDynamo - "The Dreamcast Collection is as ambiguous as the console's short life. It’s too young to be retro and too old to be relevant. The four titles are direct ports and don’t offer much as far as production value, and even if they did the games won’t satisfy your Dreamcast itch."

I have to admit I giggled at "Nightmare-Cast" flows right off the tongue.

I hated the Dreamcast. When people talk about it I just don't get it -- It sucked. Everything about it sucked. The controller, the graphics, the lack of exclusive content. It was horrible. The worst console ever.

Sega needed to leave the market.

dkgshiz5164d ago

The graphics sucked? For the time they were really good. It came out in 1998 so there you go.

The Dreamcast was released on 9/9/99...

dkgshiz5164d ago

Yeah, in NA. In Japan it was released a full year earlier.

even though its not, I consider the dreamcast to be part of the ps1/n64 gen because thats when I played it most. I had it in 99 and the grafix sure as shit did NOT "suck."

Try playing THPS 2, soul reaver, and hydro thunder on DC and then go play the ps1 or n64 versions. Games like shenmu, Soul calibur, DOA 2, SA, jet set radio and many others had great grafix for their time.

are you possibly thinking of the sega saturn? Dreamcast was awesome, its only problem was that it didn't last too long.

SilverSlug5164d ago

Shenmue is probably one of the best looking games from 1998-2002. Still does some stuff that other games wish it could do. Like full voice acting for everyone and have all different NPC, no repeats.

I always laugh because I really never liked my Dreamcast..lol
apart from House of Dead and Soul Caliber it grew dusty while my Gamecube and PS2 got serious gameplay

To each is own, but personally I think many people look back at Dreamcast through very very tinted fanboy goggles.

I expect 1000 disagree incoming and to be bubble raped..lol

Why the Dreamcast is Still Relevant

BNR: If you know me, you might know that I'm a big fan of the Sega Dreamcast- I don't remember what I was doing when it came out seeing as I was five years old and had more pressing matters on my mind, but no matter- I came to appreciate the ahead-of-its-time brilliance that was the Dreamcast when I grew older. Today (the date system on our site's broken but this article went live on September 9, 2015) marks the 16th anniversary of the US launch of the Sega Dreamcast- it was a unique machine that was home to some awesome games- in memory of it is the latest episode of the Blackman 'N Robin Irregular Game Show, embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

For Your Amusement: Dreamcast Collection Part 1 (Sonic Adventure/Crazy Taxi)

Posted by Colm Ahern

For Your Amusement is a video series in which I, Colm Ahern, play a video game for a considerable amount of time, chop up the video into something easily digestible for the lovely YouTube audience and then share it with the entire world, every Friday.

Next week is the beginning of E3 and as the video game playing public get excited about the forthcoming announcements from the big 3, it felt right to reflect on Sega’s final hurrah in the console market; Dreamcast. For part one, it’s Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi.
