Resident Evil 4 PS2/PSN Screenshot Comparison

Following the announcement of Resident Evil 4 releasing on the PlayStation Network this fall, a screenshot comparison between the PS2 and PSN version of the critically acclaimed title has been unveiled.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi5179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

thats.......creepy....

On a side note... wth is a "sceenshot" lol

kaveti66165179d ago

you don't know what a screenshot is?

and you're laughing out loud.

ironic, because your ignorance makes me want to weep.

kaveti66165179d ago

godammit, i need glasses.

sorry, my bad.

CameronL995179d ago

This comparison is fixed, what kind of 1984 television was the original being played on? lol
I NEVER remember RE4 being THAT fuzzy, and I was playing it on PS2.

Yeah this is great news! Who needs a new Resident Evil game, when you have REmakes!!!1! Oh sorry a "REmake" would be a something like a remastered version of Raccoon City. You know, for exploring, survival, updated controls, mass waves of zombies, playing as someone else... I Meant Ports!! With nothing added to them.......

.....but a price tag Yeah!!!

BDSE5179d ago

And it's not even going to be released on disk, I might have got it if they were.

RockmanII75179d ago

There are so many HD remasters this gen you should be used to it now.

cjflora5179d ago

And a gun to your head!!! Wait, nevermind I forgot you don't have to buy it if you don't want to.

DaTruth5179d ago

I never played this game before, so I really appreciate it! I would never find, nor want the PS2 version!

Did it ever occur to you that maybe some people never played it before!

sikbeta5179d ago

And what happened with the "revival collection" (RE4+RE:CV)?

Redlogic5179d ago

It's still coming out...i saw something about it today.

Warprincess1165179d ago

Well to be honest, those screenshots for the ps2 version is horrible. When you do a comparison article, your suppose to make sure both pictures are at the highest quality. The ps2 pics suk. They are just a blurry mess. So this article suks.

user94220775179d ago

Actually, it shows how big of an improvement it is when the game gets an HD upgrade.

For example:

RedDead5179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

Not really, Gamecube was by far the best non HD version, shouldn't it be compared to that? Or the Wii version(which is basically the gamecube version)

Also the Ps2 version wasn't nearly as bad as those shots there.

sinncross5179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

Im sorry, there is something a little suspect here.

The HD remaster looks better sure, but that PS2 picture is off.
http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2...

That is what the game looked like... clearer then the PS2 in those comparison.

Ingram5179d ago

Don't be so naive, those screens came straight out of Capcom's marketing department.

They're just trying to cover their asses and make it look like they've been hard at work.Which is not a good sign.Sadly, after seeing this kind of tactic, I bet you my balls we will see signs of clear lazyness in the final port of this.

JoySticksFTW5179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

What a lying-ass article this is.

Don't give them the hits.

RE4 on PS2 wasn't this bad.

Heck, the game even came with a progressive scan option to make it even more smooth

lizard812885179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

I don't recall it looking that bad? the ps2 pics were was blurry as hell. were the shots taken on a cellphone camera?!

why not compare it to the wii version...the current (better/best version of RE4)?
probably because there isn't much of a graphical difference there. knowing capcom, they will "HD" it, and call it a day.

Man In Black5179d ago

PS2 version didn't look that bad. Sure, it wasn't as good looking as the Wii version, and the cutscenes were pixellated as hell, but it still looked great considering the hardware.

ThanatosDMC5179d ago

These pics look like the came from the PC version and they took a screen capture and blurred half of the screen shot. I'm calling bullshit on this. They didnt look that bad.

Marcello5179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

From wat i can see all they are going to do is just up the res & thats it, cheap bastards !! i just hope the cut scenes are real time & not Mpegs like there were in the PS2 & PC version

Thats why the PS2 screenshots look like shite cos they were low res mpegs

Solid_Snake-5179d ago

gamecube version looks better than both ps3 and psn version.

GodsHand5179d ago

Well assuming the ps2 version ran at the highest resolution possible of 1280x1024, and the PS3 version is running at 1920x1080 that could be the difference you see. But I know the PS2 version was not out putting that high of a resolution on the PS2, and I can say I doubt the PS3 vesion is out putting at that resolution as well.

ian725179d ago

The PS2 versions in those photo's are poor. The game looks a lot better than those pictures show.

gman_moose5179d ago

I agree. PS2 version was not that blurry. Very misleading to make the PSN version look better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will look much better, but this article fails to show that.

maddfoxx5179d ago

The screenshots for the orginal PS2 version look terrible, because thats what it looks like when you try to play it in HD on a PS3. Trust me, I tried and the fuzziness makes RE4 unplayable on the PS3. Another reason why PS3's shouldnt be backwards compatible. It makes ALL Ps2 games look worse then how they already do.

Wizziokid5179d ago

very nice improvement, will be download this! :D

MeanOldman5179d ago

imma do the same. got the disk version but gotta get this.

tommy-cronin5179d ago

Normally id say leave the classic games alone, but this game just has an exception, if i hear one person say there gonna get this game for trophies Im gonna seriously have to kill them

BK-2015179d ago

What is resident evil? Oh well I'll just get it for easy trophies just like I did with Hannah Montana the game.

Too_many_games5179d ago

i AM going to get this game for trophies...and for fun!

ThanatosDMC5179d ago (Edited 5179d ago )

Same here. I loved RE4. Leon > Chris & Sheva

Played it to get all the hidden/unlockable guns and finished Merc mode.

Philoctetes5179d ago

I beat RE4 on the PS2 at least 20 times. Probably more. Damn right I'm getting it for trophies. I earned them.

Ingram5179d ago

Capcom must think we were born yesterday.

Those are clearly doctored shots, so we don't run around saying to each other "hey, how little improvement"

Less PR and more work on getting the GC remake and others Capcom, you really are cheap this generation, what will you try to charge us for this one, full retail price I guess?, don't even dare...We are thankful for this, just don't play with us, you're slowly getting near the line Activision and Squeenix crossed some time ago.

Ex-Naughty Dog Dev Says Resident Evil 4 Inspired Uncharted and Many More Action Games

Former Naughty Dog dev says Resident Evil 4 inspired Unchartted and even Gears of War, particularly the over-the-shoulder camera view.

CrimsonWing6910d ago

It revolutionized third-person shooters, in a genius way that gives you full control of aiming.

CrimsonWing699d ago

No, I mean RE4. Like the whole snap to over-shoulder and precision aiming was what I meant.

I won’t deny Winback does pave the way in some respect. But it’s not the same at all.

InUrFoxHole10d ago

Both are great series. That's awesome

Samonuske10d ago

I thought this was common knowledge. Resident Evil Revolutionised over the shoulder aiming in 3rd person shooters/action games

italiangamer9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Influenced basically every third person action game made after it, GTA uses the over the shoulder perspective when shooting since the 4th installment, Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 too and the Batman Arkham series has the over the shoulder perspective as the main camera throughout the whole game series.
Obviously there are a ton more examples but you get the point 🗿.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_9219d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil18d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
