It’s funny that Pilotwings, a relaxing, sedately beautiful series which really isn’t about where you end up, but how you get there, is also the one franchise in Nintendo’s arsenal which only comes out when the company has a serious technological point to prove. The SNES original was the first title to show off Mode 7 scaling to its fullest potential; Pilotwings 64’s expansive vistas were a technical showcase for the console it helped launch. And now, 15 years later, the breezy, carefree Pilotwings Resort is perhaps the game in 3DS’s launch line-up with the greatest challenge – proving that as well as being an eye-catching novelty, 3D can be gently alluring too.
Some game endings are good. Most are bad. And a few just sail out of the blue. One example of an unexpected game ending is the conclusion of Pilotwings for the SNES.
Tynan Muddle at Aussie-Gamer.com writes: "Co-founder of development studio Monster Games and programmer for Nintendo’s PilotWings Resort on Nintendo 3DS David Pollatsek has passed away at the age of 38."
Pollatsek co-founded United States based development studio Monster Games in 1996 which went onto working on Wii titles such as ExciteTruck and ExciteBike: World Rally. The studio was hired as an international partner in the development of PilotWings Resort, a launch title for Nintendo 3DS. One of Pollatsek’s hobbies included flying airplanes."
