Bungie not admitting Halo 3 sniper rifle glitch?

In the latest weekly update on Halo 3, Bungie told gamers to "sack up" regarding a problem with sniper rifle hits not registering. Bungie stated, "What you're seeing is roughly the same situation as you would have in Halo 2, but with movies and screenshots available to examine this stuff, you're seeing more alleged injustice on a frame by frame basis. The sniper is harder to use now, so sack up, it requires more skill." Whether that's true or not, many users at the Bungie.net community aren't too happy with Bungie's response, calling it insulting.

I've sniped an opponent who was standing completely still and the hit never registered. I chalked it up to lag, but if this many people are complaining there must be something wrong.

Then again, it could be the "swipe snipers" whining about not being able to score cheap kills.

Sniper rifle was incredibly easy to use in H2. H3 isn't much harder.

I find you have to lead targets ever so slightly. And it fires slower, requiring more patience, other than BAM BAM BAM BAM.

To people saying they shot a guy 4 times in the head when he was standing still. I don't know whats up with that. The only time that would ever happen to me is when the host has a sh!tbagged connection(happens maybe 10% of the time to all those XBL haters).

Other than that the rifle works fine for me. When I shoot people in the dome, they die. When guys get me in the face, I die.

So far I haven't encountered this problem you turd. I'm almost a Commander in Halo 3, so I've played a lot of games. So wtf am I not allowed to voice my opinion on this 'glitch'. Whenever something odd happens it's usually do to latency.

And im on my 3rd 360 since launch going on 4, cuz this one keeps freezing up and having disc read errors all the time. And i got it back from them on July 20-something. And my friend is also on his 2nd 360 going on 3 soon, cuz that one has been messing up too. So MS is batting 5 for 0 with our 360s. I dream of a day when i can get a non malfunctioning 360. I can tell you who is whining about this crap... those young children under the age of 16 who are used to owning with the sniper rifle and are having a hard time adjusting to something that requires a little more finesse. I guess it's just getting annoying to them to have Halo 3 over 115000 degrees for over a week straight. While, the next game down the list is at about 15000.

I have seen a few clips where it was clearly a headshot or in one case, a bullet hit a wall and the line ended there, but I (50 ft past the stop point of the bullet) died from the snipe. Oh well. it's a game.

it isn't a legitimate problem. This happens in nearly every game ever made whether it's latency or the person didn't actually hit the target. I had a double zoom from a target 150' from me and the bullet went right through his head but 20 seconds later the guys disconnected from the server. I am guessing he had network issues or the server dropped him. Either way I chalk it up to latency.

I have my gripes with Halo but accuracy with the weapons isn't one of them.

Is it just me or is bungie a bit arrogant. I am starting to dislike them First they don't want to add a custom games finder because they dont want people to not use their craptacular match making. I don't know sniper rifle don't bug me too much in halo 3 what does is the over use of melee but no biggie.

It can get annoying, but it doesn't happen so often that it turns out to be game breaking in any way. All you can do is keep at it. 9.5 times out of 10 it works just fine.

It IS a legitimate issue. A friend and I play Halo 3 religiously and this has occurred more than once for my friend in a single game against one particular player. He thought the player in question was cheating at first. Apparently the glitch is rare and what happens is you can get a headshot on someone and it doesn't register at all. No shield depletion, no death, nothing. Even though it's a rare occurrence, it can still tip the scale of a match and should be fixed. It has nothing to do with a player's skill. Replays of this glitch will clearly show a shot to the dome and the player not dying or getting their shield depleted.

i know they have changed the sniper and it handles differently.

but, there are issues...

example, i Stuck someone with a sticky, watched the dude run through a door way, the nade went of on another section of the door and he just kept on running like nothing had happened.

i never liked the sniper in halo 2, but i could still use it quite well. I liked the Halo 1 sniper the best, now i just don't bother picking it up. The only problem now, is even playing team slayer all i seem to get is shotty-sniper.

its bad enough that its now harder to use, but then i am stuck with using it in evey other slayer game WTF...

I love halo, but there are a lot of little issues that just leave me feeling i can't be bothered so much with this anymore.

I understand what you're saying, but I think what you're describing is intentional. I'm sure you're talking about those shields on Snowbound. If your body is half-way through a shield while you throw a grenade and you're not far in enough, your throwing arm will still be behind the shield and your nade will not pass through the shield in result. I believe it functions the same with a plasma/spiker stuck to you.

Then again, I could be completely wrong.

I've not had a problem with the sniper rifle, If someones standing still and i shoot them in the head then they die, if I follow through and lead when they are far away then they die.

Maybe people need to stop sucking so much and practice with the new sniper rifle.

I see a lot of you saying that it's not a glitch, the person sucks or that it's latency. But it's none of those things. This glitch doesn't happen frequently, either. It hasn't even happened to me yet, but it happened to my buddy while trying to snipe a guy on three separate occasions in a single match. He has the replay to prove it. Said friend doesn't suck, either. Neither of us do. We're not the greatest Halo players, but we far from suck. We know a headshot when we see one. If this was a latency issue, then explain why this only occurs with the sniper rifle. It IS a glitch, make no mistake. There's no excuse for shooting someone directly in the head and it not killing them, or even depleting their shield to indicate that you even hit them. You'd also see the player you're trying to shoot warp around if it was lag. This isn't the case.

It is not as rare as they would have you think either. Considering almot 50% of Team Slayer matches are shotty snipers you see it very often. It probably wouldn't be as big of deal if so many matches weren't Shotty Snipers but they are.

At first I thought it was lag but when the guy is standing still the whole time and you peg him with a face shot and he doesn't even flinch it becomes aggravating.

I was playing the campaign co-op on Legendary last night (Check my gamertag if you don't believe) and it happens there as well. It should be handled and it shouldn't be met with such arrogance. I assume that they have been catching a lot of flack about graphics and such so they are a bit on edge but everyone isn't crying wolf on what they see.
