Tries to take this exact claim as if it will the the be-all, end-all of the current reign of PS3 exclusive power.

Soon they are forgotten about, relegated to the bargain bin. Meanwhile, PS3 exclusive after PS3 exclusive are continually talked about and compared to in the gaming community and the media, and even used as the benchmark when being compared against PC titles, no less.

Crysis 2 will be a great game. But this whole "XXX is better than XXX" is nonsense. Why not just enjoy a game on its own merits? To consistently throw games against one another sure does exhibit some form of insecurity.

Lawliet4774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

For some reason you won't see Xbox360 or Wii or PC games getting any comparison to each other. It looks like every PS3 exclusives are the peak to top this days.. But why am I not surprise??

Wanna bet that Uncharted3 will be compare to GeoW3 and Rage and batman and ridiculously probably even Skyrim or some other different genre, but you'll not see any comparison between themselves. Maybe just one or two article might just happen to make one, is nothing compare to the 100 competitions Uncharted3 is about to get.

True @thereapersson, exclusive experience play a big part to all these comparison.

Just watch this month and for the months to come. So far KillZone3 had been compared to Crysis2,Bulletstorm,Homefront, Battlefield...(Did I miss out any?I'm pretty sure I had and will continue to miss) That is like taking EVERY SHOOTER GENRE for a showdown! Funny you don't see Crysis2 VS Bulletstorm VS Battlefield VS Homefront. IT JUST NOT INTERESTING! No purpose, because EVERYONE who wants to play, will get to enjoy them somehow as long as you own any of the 3 platform! The Wii gamers wouldn't give a shit about it, as they bought the console for other reasons. Later on, all these games such as Crysis2,BF..... will soon to be forgotten, but you will still see KillZone3 VS *** out of no where until the next powerhorse PS3 exclusive shooter..

thereapersson4774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

You won't, and don't feel awkward about not being surprised.

Only PS3 exclusive games offer you an experience you cannot get anywhere else. Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, inFAMOUS, Demons Souls... none of those games are on PC.

If nothing else, you could easily validate the purchase of a PS3 for its exclusives alone. It's why I respect Sony so much for its continued strategy of supporting as many developers as they can.

edit:

lol @ disagrees from the sidelines

why not come out and make a rebuttal against my statements? Oh wait, I see you realize that's a losing battle. That explains the nonsense... :)

Daoshai4774d ago

I've seen many games compared with halo and call of duty..... I think killzone 3 is used in this case because it and crysis 2 are two beautiful looking games and have that in common

"Crysis 2 review: Better than Killzone 3?"

As the saying goes:

if you have to ask...

@ thereapersson

You love the PS3 you need to relax.

Dude4204774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

@ thereapersson

While it's true I have enjoyed playing these games on the PS3. I still wouldn't miss them if I didn't have the console. The only game I would probably want to play is uncharted, but that's it. I don't really care for killzone anymore.

As for PC

- The Witcher 2
- Dawn of War 2
- Starcraft 2
- Diablo 3
- Shogun 2: Total War
- Probably SW: The Old Republic since it won't be pay per month to play.
- Superior Battlefield 3 version.
- Superior Crysis 2 version.
- Red Orchestra 2
- Most of the multiplatform games are better on PC, just a matter of good controls.

This is just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more. PC has plenty of games to keep me busy, I don't need PS3 exclusives to enjoy it.

thereapersson4774d ago

I game on my PC as well, so all those games you mentioned will all be enjoyed by myself at one point or another. I'm actually really looking forward to picking up Deus Ex 3 sometime soon.

I should have specified that those who have an aversion to picking up a PS3, or those who only own a 360 are really missing out. Most gamers who own PS3's also own competent gaming PC's. Really, the PS3 and PC combo is all you need. The 360 has some good exclusives, but none of what Microsoft has shown in the past 6 months has proven that the 360 will have any sort of hardcore longevity that isn't Kinect related.

HolyOrangeCows4774d ago

I can't take a reviewer seriously that starts by making a ridiculous comparison like Crysis 2 to Killzone 3.

I think crysis 2 is a better game, but in terms of graphics killzone wipes the floor with it (consoles only) I can't help but think crytek should have optmised it for consoles a little more... I mean, do we need to throw desk fans and shopping carts around? Driving sections are also clumsy and unnecessary... maybe they could have worked on the resolution and pop in instead?

hoops4774d ago

The only people saying KZ3 wipes the floor graphically with Crysis 2 are...well you know.
It does not if you played both games. They are on par graphically because its two different art styles and Crysis 2 is actually doing most of its effects in real time. KZ3 is not. Give credit where credit is due.

InTheKnow4774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

.
Some huge games still to come this year. Waiting for my copy of Crysis 2 to arrive right now with in the hour. Judging by the beta, this game is a 10/10 for me. Some issues but ALL games have issues.

I'll just have to watch this 360 footage again. Is this really in REAL TIME. The water reflections at about the 6:20 mark on ward are ridiculous. I see a lot of similarities between this game and Halo Reach including interestingly enough the resolution.

Which every game you pick up you will enjoy in till BF2.

SnakeMustDie4774d ago

From the leaked beta I've played Crysis 2 has a better SP but Killzone 3 has better MP even if some of the classes needs balancing.

Fil1014774d ago

lol yeah some of the classes do need balancing for sure, come on who's the muppet that decided the marksman class should get an assult rifel i'm sick of jumping into a game where nearly all the players R sniping and for this reason it's put me off the mp side of killzone

TBM4774d ago

I use the medic class I find it extremely fun to play myself.

Mission succesful

palaeomerus4774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

I don't think being better than KZ3 is all that hard to do. It got an 85 on metacritic because it's short has a lot of silly rail shooting and overly scripted set piece stuff, and the multiplayer is dumbed down from KZ2. It shifted it's formula towards the CoD format and given the success of that format it might be the right thing to do ultimately for a lot of middle-brow shooters looking to grow their audience.

KZ3 is not some untouchable paragon of quality or even hugely popular at this point. It just looks really nice and fits into all the console war bullshit as a showpiece of graphics tech. Even there it is VASTLY over rated. Saying that it wipes the floor with other recent console shooters or that it is 3x better looking is nothing but dumb fan boy hyperbole that doesn't mean really much of anything except someone wants to praise it way too much to more easily tear down other games that are ALSO very nice looking.

KZ3 is certainly a decent game and worth playing and owning but it's not "incredible" or all that "special" and it's not likely to change the FPS market much in any significant way.

I just don't think Crysis 2 being better than KZ3 is all that unthinkable.

I'm still learning how to look for the differences. At first I was focusing on shadows for some reason but I don't think that changes much, is it reflections that change?

rashada071760d ago (Edited 1760d ago )

It is supposed to be simulating how light actually works- so yes if light is reflecting off a surface accurately it should show reflection or an effect that matches what you are looking at in the environment. Next time you play a game look at a puddle of water there may be just a "baked" in texture that if you aren't paying attention seems like it is reflecting but it isn't. I would say though if the light is reflecting more accurately I would think that would give more accurate shadows as well.
I am still not 100% sold on it- it looks okay but I can't get over the hardware price jump for better reflections..

Taz X141760d ago

While games won't look immensely better, it opens up more possibilities overall. Understandably, the price jump is huge. But, that can be said for being at the forefront for any new technology. I'm currently using a 2080ti and while I've played a few games that enable it, the gpu also plays everything else incredibly well so it's not like you're buying this tech for ONLY that option. Enthusiasts will pay top dollar to check out the newest things, but this will eventually become an everyday consumer and by then they'll have optimized and become a lot cheaper.

warriorcase1759d ago

Ray/path tracing can be used how the developer wants it to be. Tracing can be used to calculate shadows/lighting, reflection and even audio, where audio waves are calculated on the bounce off material types to simulate enviroment and echos accuratly.

Should also keep in mind that this ray/path tracing system is different and less accurate option from Nvidias RTX branded type. McFly's is a reshade that layers over the top of the game and therefor the quality will vary drastically. For example you can see nice reflection in the Star Wars demo here but it then introduces colour clipping with the light saber. On a video of GTA 5 for example it was incorrectly projecting a reflection of a red car onto the road which caused a very faint red glow on the ground around the car.

If you want to see a good example of a game developed with ray tracing reflection and lighting in mind then you could look up the youtube video of "Control - Exclusive E3 RTX GAMEPLAY Trailer".

DigitallyAfflicted1760d ago

It supposed to add more realistic light Not actually more light effects and explosions

traumadisaster1759d ago

I hate to say it but I’m fine with fake lights, shadows, reflections. I just kind of like the effect, it’s also great it saves resources for other things.

I’ve been checking out some original Xbox games on x360/x1x and the engine has fake light streaming in through a stained glass window, and I love it even though I know it’s not real time lighting. Heck it even shifts as I move about.

I’ve about convinced my self rt and hdr just doesn’t work for me. Before hdr I would even complain damn why are the headlights killing me they are so bright.

I notice most frame rate, then jaggies, then resolution; with the last two interchangeable depending.

Other day watched an enthusiast rave over 4k and the poor guy was in 1080p. I played the same game the night before and thought wow this is clean, I wonder if it’s 4k, but knew differently and I thought wow even resolution is not always important. The next day he apologized and was surprised he could be fooled.

RaidenBlack1759d ago

EA should have released the Crysis Trilogy Remaster for this gen.

FGHFGHFGH1754d ago

How come the lightsabers don't give off any light? Even in the EA star wars game the guy uses it to light up a dark cave. I guess if it is using frostbite it will support rtx cards.
