Assassin's Creed III takes place in the USA?

To be in a modern city for me would seem like most sandbox games out there. Plus, I was never very keen on the modern segments with Desmond.

now I will give you that the US history is much younger than other countries. We've only been around for 200 years vs europes 1000s of years.

Every country has its rich history depending on how you look at it. But in comparison to most countries, the USA's history is not rich at all. As a matter of fact, I do study history, and American history is based around Europeans until 300 years ago, where it is mostly based around war with the British or civil war. So yes..the USA does not have a rich history.

It'll be interesting to see how this installment will play out, because I don't think I have the patience for another game that consists mainly of the same climbing and fighting. I'd like the missions to be more story driven and feel even more unique than in Brotherhood, even though Brotherhood at times did a fantastic job, especially with the missions in modern day Monteriggioni where Ubisoft was telling the story of Desmond and Altair at the same time, through Desmond. Just wonderful. So I basically want more Desmond.

How could he have had the apple if Ezio 16th century hid it and was found by Desmond in the 21st century.

There's more than one. It's appleS, plural. At the end of AC1 it shows their locations all over the world. In AC:B there's about 4 or so Assassin groups out in the field looking for stuff apart from Desmond's team. Check your emails on the Auditore crypt's computer for their status.

There is one apple. It is meant to represent the Apple of Eden. Another artifact was the Popes Staff. There are different artifacts around the world that do different things.

It would be nice to see a game of this type have a crack at victorian London. The architecture for a start would be perfect for AC. Many hand and footholds already in place. You could also have a chimney sweep mini game.

So long as that's where the "modern day" part occurs. Colonial-era American Architecture... well, let's just say it won't be so fun to wander around big towns where the tallest buildings are only a few stories tall. And where there are barely a half-dozen landmarks, total. It would be awful. Just awful.

For that reason alone, I don't think we have much to worry about.

Also... let's look at things from a distance, shall we? I imagine we all noticed the rather large number of references to people like Charlemagne, Napoleon Bonaparte, Joan d'Arc, WWII, etc., etc?

And I imagine a handful of us noticed that Ubisoft, the people making these games, is a French company.

Does anyone here REALLY think they'll end these games without letting us visit France?

FRENCH REVOLUTION IT IS, THEN.

Edit: which, of course, would allow plenty of crossover with colonial-era America, and would allow for plenty of famous historical figures to appear, from Benjamin Franklin to Bonaparte. Lots of violence and death and political change to work with, too.

There are lot's of places that could be done.

I have no problem with Colonial America being done, as I am sure it would be done right.... plus it would feel quite different and so would help break up any sameness that the franchise could acquire if they do the same type of place.

But also Ancient Greece would be cool, Cities like Athens and Sparta, and maybe an area based around the Greek islands and tie in the Delian League.
Ancient Rome could be cool, as could Egypt.
England in the Jack the Ripper times, France during the revolution.... the list goes on.

Personally I hope that they keep the franchise going for at least a few more games... just as long as they start to freshen it up a bit and change things (for the better), and perhaps build a new engine after another game or two.

There are lots of places throughout history that they could go to and in doing so have a completely different feel to the game. Like running around Feudal Japan as a Ninja, with the stealth mechanics being based more around hiding in shadows would feel enough like a different game to keep things interesting.

OK, who agrees with this idea:

I want Assassin's Creed 3 to break with the tradition of just being set in one time period. I would prefer that it has the expected multiple historical cities as in previous AC games, but that in AC3 each of the cities are in different countries AND at different, relevant points in their history, following more than one ancestor:

1st City: Revolutionary Paris (1789-1799). Lots of intrigue and plot excitement because of what was going on politically and out on the streets. Sadly the Eiffel Tower is not built during this time period. However...

2nd City: London, 1888. Now you play as a different assassin ancestor. So we will have the chance to clamber over Gothic architecture to our heart's content including the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and also explore London's antiquated sewer systems/trail and kill Jack the Ripper etc.

3rd City: Paris 1889. The same assassin from this period could take a ship to Paris of 1889 and climb the newly-finished Eiffel Tower! Fans could have a fun time re-exploring Paris and seeing what has changed over the last 100 years!

4th City: New York circa 1900. The same assassin leaves Europe to the city we have seen in films such as Gangs of New York. Lots of ethnic and immigrant populations shoved into small districts and at each other's throats. The start of the age of the Sky Scraper (The Park Row building, at 30 floors high and completed in 1899 was the tallest building in the world at the time.) and it segues the series nicely into Desmond's story in New York 2012 (or wherever he is next!).

There could be 1 'Countryside' section for each historical city with even historical versions of Dover and Calais and the English Channel when going to and from 19th century London and Paris (there could be a cool mission set on a large steamer ship during the voyage?)

I would have included 1917 Moscow but the canon graphic novels have pre-empted this!

So who else thinks keeping Assassins Creed limited to 'just' one country's historical cities/culture is perhaps not the best way to continue?
