Crytek: Crysis 2 PS3 Demo Based on Code Just Prior to Submission

A developer working for Crytek has stated that the Crysis 2 PS3 demo is based on the shooter’s code that was just prior to submission; whereas the current Xbox 360 demo is based on the code that Crytek used for the first demo of the game that was previously released on Microsoft’s platform.

well in most cases demo are older/different builds. IDK, i will wait for the final product. Same thing happened with Mass effect 2 where they (Bioware/EA) used an older build of there demo and the final game ended up performing and looking a bit better.

Just tried the demo, I got shot every time I use the powers, they are just a distraction, if I ignore them the whole point of the game is lost, but I loved the maps.

I like the powers, even with the limited amount available in the beta there is a good sense of juggling. I like how everything takes energy and how you have to manage all of it well in order to succeed.

As for the PS3 version, this is their first game on the PS3 and I imagine they are having troubles. Wont expect much for the PS3 version, it's a PC game and will be superior on PC, I just hope they put in the work, but why would they when nobody else does?

Those getting it on the PS3 can at least hope they improve Framerate and pop-in. I'm not sure how much of the performance issues on the PS3 version was networking and how much is affected by the build

Strangely, I played the game the following day and it seemed to run better. So *maybe* a lot of what I was experiencing was lag. I'm sure they can fix certain issues, but undoubtedly the PS3 version will suffer the most. We can just hope the issues aren't significant enough

Why release an old build demo with for example, screentearing and low framerate? The idea of demos is to give a taste of the final product. If the demo is shit, then potential customers will cancel their preorders.

This is why demos can be more hurtful to sales rather than being sales boosters.

Instead of putting money and resources to build a demo version of the game, invest all that in improving the final product.

I would gladly skip a short 5-10 minute taste of future games if i knew all that money would be spent on making the product problem and glitch free.

The retail code better be a LOAD better than the demo.

The latency is the worst in any game I've EVER played. If you've played Killzone 2.....multiply that latency by about 5. Yeah.

The resolution and texture resolutions should be much higher.

And I can't tell if it's the frame rate or the lag, but the frames-per-second needs to be better. Then again, I remember Kz3's beta seemed like it had a low fps, but it just ended up being lag. The retail version's MP runs fine. (Don't complain that I mentioned "you know what" zone, it's a recent and good example).

Otherwise, I thought the demo was okay (gameplay-wise). I'm more interested in the campaign, though.

Dude KZ3 beta had framerate issues also so I'm sure they'll address it before final release. As far as jaggies go all multiplats have 'em so no biggie for me.

Personally, I'll wait for the final build reviews from DF! The framerate problems I've heard about could be due to poor networking, which given the fact that I can't get into a game, seems very likely!

The screenshots I've seen for all versions look pretty good... especially for subHD! But my standards will be high as I'm looking for any reason to buy 2 worlds 2 instead!

Even though I feel the opinion parts of DF analysis are biased, their technical analysis is good and gives you a good idea about the game!(by opinion bias I mean that if the PS3 version has lower framerates but better load times, suddenly long load times aren't a problem and minor framerate dips are a mortal sin against God)

But visually, why would they want to make it on par with the 360 version???

The PS3 version resembles the PC version a lot more closely than the 360!

PC and PS3 are very similar in contrast levels, details and lighting:

You'll notice that the 360 version is overly dark in shaded areas, hiding detail, and overly bright on certain light areas.
And I'm not just talking about Crysis 2.

Over-saturation and dark contrast ≠ better graphics. They're not really good visual attributes. But many people tend to not understand this when comparing.

The game has a good idea, and looks semi good. However bragging about being the best looking game there is, it really isnt all that out of this world.

The demo is horrible. I dont wanna hear excuses as to "this is an early build" then why release it? It sucks. It feels like im shooting air and the air is randomly killing me. The powers are nearly useless and you do better without using anything not hiding you, so there goes the whole point of the game.

I just hope the single player is better, thats waht ill be renting the game for.

Why get it to run as good as the 360. The PS3 has more shadows than the 360 and unneeded amount of extra motion blur.

They need to get it 720p, and the frame rate fixed. Most of those comparisons have the contrast settings all messed up.

The fact that Crytek UK was responsible for the multiplayer parts of the game means that the performance of the single player part, made by Crytek, and the multiplayer part, made by Crytek UK, could be quite different.

I actually had a lot of network issues even in the PC version, so I can't rule that out as the source of the choppiness in the PS3 demo given that it's a multiplayer demo. I'm buying the PC version personally, although I may wait a bit for a Steam special.

Overall he's absolutely correct. This is yet another case of PS3 being screwed by a dev that doesn't know what they're doing, but luckily this is also a case of yet another FPS in a sea of FPSs. I was interested in this game because of the reputation of Crysis. I wanted to see what kind of visuals they could pull off on PS3, but seeing gameplay vids showed me quite awhile ago that there were already better looking and more innovative games for me to spend my time on. MAG still takes care of my multiplayer needs, and if I want to play an incredible looking yet otherwise pretty generic shooter there's Killzone 2 and 3. There's no reason for any PS3 owner to play Crysis 2, especially at full price, unless they're a complete FPS freak.

I would love to see what crytek could do if they focuse all their effort on a ps3 exclusive.. We all know that the ps3 is capable of graphics that are far better then those in crysis 2 and we all know that crytek themselves at making a better looking game but because of the difficulties of multiplatform development one side is getting a bad rap and like usual its the ps3.. I really thought these days of disparity were behind us but I guess not.. Either way the gameplay is what matters most and I'm not going to let "Slightly lower resolutions" alter my decision to at least play this game.. I will gamefly it try it and if it meets my needs then I will buy.. I refuse to let fanboy hysteria from a forum page affect my game purchases... not in this case goosepoose...it seems the PS3 version is the pre-release build and the Xbox 360 is the older code...that's what he says...and i just played 4 an hour and it makes rethink my statement about the PS3 version...it's actually sligthly better than xbox version..more little details on the guns some better textures and more objects in the maps...underwater also looks slightly better and now i know why it is a later build than the xbox demo, but rest assure the rest is the same as the 360 version...and it they look great! try the demo urself and then make a judgement before skipping this game...

It looks amazing, and is "HD", on PC. Also what early reviewers have stated, is that it looks damn good on consoles too. I don't know if your judging the game before playing the final product, or do you just have very high standards for graphics..

I won't try to speak for him, but neither console version appears to be anything special in terms of gameplay or graphics. Graphics don't automatically win in my world. My favorite multiplayer game remains MAG, which no one would put up for any graphics awards even though it looks better than some on N4G would have you believe. If you take into account what is going on around you, which you should, it looks better than just ok. It's the epic battles that keep me coming back for more. Every other console FPS delivers a minor skirmish online. I bought Killzone 2 because I wanted to see the visuals, and it was an incredible looking yet otherwise pretty generic shooter, so I'll wait for Killzone 3 until the price goes down and I need a game to play. On consoles, Crysis 2 appears to be just another FPS. On PC it may have mind blowing visuals, but PC gaming holds no interest for me and apparently many others feel the same.

I actually agree with you almost everything you replied. MAG is one of those games that was reason for me to get PS3, haven't bought it yet tought, BF:BC2 has taken my mp time with PS3. MAG is rare thing on consoles, and I really enjoy games where there needs to be a team instead of inviduals, never enjoyed for example deathmatch modes on games, objectives and support roles are more my thing. That is maybe why I enjoy BF-serie so much.

The thing was I replied about graphics, becouse he was bashing the graphics. Game doesn't have to look like KZ3 to be considered good looking, and to bash Crysis looks generally is foolish, since everybody knows how good it looks on PC.

About gameplay I can't say much, since I haven't played the game, but on paper it sure does sound ten times more innovative than KZ3 for example. That's one game I need to get too, since I like the setting and visuals of it, but I also wait for it's price to drop.

Don't judge the full game based on a 360 demo port.

Crysis 2 multiplayer is turd, re-skinned Call of Duty as you have correctly said.
Would not recommend for multiplayer unless it is modded to support Crysis and Crysis Wars content in which its more of a Battlefield 2 game.

the 360 demo is based of an older code than the ps3 demo.

He says the ps3 demo is based on the code a few days before turning in the final product. that guy just hurt their sales even more. I wonder if it will get declined as the multiplayer demo didnt work at all for me the other day.

I would just like to know how GG got it right for KZ3's multiplayer beta to look almost just as good as the final build months before the game was released but crytek failed to do so just weeks before release, for me the game does not look as bad as many on this site is saying but it sure as hell does not look as good as crytek is claiming, in all honesty I can live with the graphics but what I cant stand is the pop-ins and it is damn annoying. Unfortunately I think PS3 gamers have been spoiled by the exclusive, instead of PS3 exclusives reaching a ceiling the games have just gotten better and better with each game raising the bar whether it be graphics or gameplay or both and its not going to end any time soon, thus spoiling us. The Sony devs have set a standard in gaming which, Im afraid to say, the multiplat devs just cant keep up with.

i think what crytek is saying is that the ps3's demo is the latest build and the 360's was running a diffrent build and when the retail game comes out the 360 will be running the ps3 build that the demo is running now with the fixes and tweaks to the gfx and fps

theyre saying that the 360 demo is using OLD code, the PS3 demo is essentially using finished code - basically the same code youll get on the retail copy.

so there will be improvement in the already superior 360 version, but little to no improvement in the inferior PS3 version.

This reminds me of the whole Ghost Busters multiplat saga, with the studio claiming it will look the best on the PS3 (console wise mind you, Seeing that it was made specifically for the PS3 in mind) Then when release day came it looked great on every platform EXCEPT THE PS3! Ironic really...

This statement doesn't make any sense at all.
Submission means, that the game is ready. They send the code to Sony for submission, if they find any serious bugs or something. When they don't find anything, than the game is ready to release. What's more important: they DON'T change the graphics at this stage. This is not an excuse.:)

I am just so disappointed on how the demo turned out thats all. After playing the multiplayer beta on the pc even though i did crap, not used to mouse and keyboard combo :P i did have fun. I really had high hopes for it specially from a developer such as crytek i mean crysis was a beast back in the day and still is!!! :O

Compared to the ps3's other flag ship tittles, this just looks subpar to be honest, not only was i not able to play more than 3 matches because of connection issues the game just looks like a blurry mess. I mean take vanquish for example i love that game!!! Loads of action on the screen but to me it looks a little too blurry to my liking but do i care no because platinum games never boasted about garphics only gamplay which in my opinion it delivers. Crytek on the other hand did so you can see why people are disappointed whith it.

Lets not kid ourselves here because the ps3's harware is getting old so it was never going to look like crysis on a high end pc but i mean with games like killzone 3, GOW 3 and Uncharted 2 it just looks like its lacking a lot of polish!!!!

I'm so tired of this crap... like Sony does, they release a half finished product demo (Motorstorm and other games, in beta shape and clearly inferior to the final product).... i thought that a demo is meant to show how good is the final product, so ppl are going to buy it, not the opposite!!
