Square-Enix wants money for a demo

Yesterday Square-Enix released a demo (at least they announced it as a demo some time ago) and they asked money for it. If you do not put money on the table, you can not play the demo.

To be fair to SE, they're not MAKING you pay for a demo. They're making you pay for the Aerith DLC. If you don't want the exclusive Aerith assist character, then don't buy it.

Kingsora5203d ago

But then you can't play the demo ...

...

I had to agree to your comment! That didn't even
cross my mind, lol.

*hangs head in shame*

I'm in no way supportive of paying to play a demo, but, in Square's defense, the demo is a prologue to the story in duodecium. A very short prologue, but it's a bite sized version of the game itself. There is no leveling up, but it has a Story mode and a Arcade mode. It also has a list of achievements for you to accomplish, and doing said achievements unlocks items for the full game. Also, you get the Aerith DLC assist character.

But yeah, you shouldn't have to pay to play a demo, but I will say that if you played (and liked) the first game, and you are definitely getting the second one, then this is worth the purchase. Gets you a bite sized version of the game to mess around with that the unlockables in the demo will get you stuff for the full game, and then you'll also have an extra assist character. If you're on the fence, then I don't know what to tell you. I would buy Dissidia used (then return it for a refund) and if you like the gameplay in that then you would like the gameplay in Duodecium (though they added minor things to the battle system, like assist characters)

It's like GT: Prologue, in many ways. I bought that game, and so did a whole lot of other people, and it was a "demo".

My opinion is that not every demo deserves an admission price. Some of them are earlier code, and not much thought or polish goes into them. But other, proper demos, are a chunk taken right out of the final game, with polish and everything. There's thought put into them, as well as man-power, and in the case of demos like this one, even extra stuff that isn't in the game--it's a prologue. All this costs the dev money, and it's time we, as gamers, stop taking everything for granted and realize devs need to be paid for their work.

So for a "demo" like this one, yeah, it's fair to charge me a few dollars. For your average-everyday pre-gold code demo, no, I wouldn't pay.

@blaine - I never claimed that this demo didn't have enough content to warrant a price tag. I'm just against demos having a price tag on them. I would have preferred them to have a free demo. I did buy it, because I'm getting the game anyways, but I don't want this becoming a trend. If there is a game I never played before, I don't want to have to pay money to try it out before hand.

squenix what a garbage, they are a shell of their former self.

FailOverFail5203d ago

I never knew they released a demo. :/
Isn't the thing they released a prelude to Lightnings Story in the new Dissidia? I'm not sure if it's ripped content from the game you'll be playing, or if it's completely new content to get you set up for D012.

If someone played it, I'm sure they'll know the answer.

radphil5203d ago (Edited 5203d ago )

It's the prologue to D012.

Honestly with the amount of stuff you're able to do in it, it's worth the $3.

Can you call it a demo? Yea. But from what people say, the stuff you experience on it is not in the full game.

radphil5203d ago (Edited 5203d ago )

Apparently people love just bad mouthing companies on this site without even thinking.

This isn't a "demo" in how people skew the definition.

Instead it's usually "Screw them" or "**** 'em they won't get money from me"

ExPresident5203d ago

Apparently SE has decided they haven't hit the bottom of the barrel yet?

CrzyFooL5203d ago

I'm not giving SE money for jack shit!

Why do we think this is coming out on Switch 2 before Xbox? Any thoughts? The S2 is not more powerful than the Series S so it’s not a ‘lack of power’ issue. Perhaps the sales forecast is higher on S2 than Xbox so that’s maybe where their priority lies?

jznrpg39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

It’s definitely a sales issue. If Xbox didn’t have players used to GamePass I bet it would be there already.

The fact people will buy it. Xbox gamers generally have minimal interest in this series. Portable Final Fantasy will go down a storm in Japan where the switch sells huge numbers

Hamaguchi states not just the remake but the entire FF7 remake series.

The Switch 2 version is really beautiful. It looked as good as the PS5 version.
