A DS version of hit Xbox 360 RPG and anime Blue Dragon has been rumored for some time now, and was even apparently confirmed in a recent issue of Jump Magazine. But today, the game became officially official (in the official sense).
Mistwalker and Final Fantay father Hironobu Sakaguchi are serving as producers on the tentatively titled Blue Dragon DS. Feel Plus, the development studio behind the upcoming 360 dramatic RPG Lost Odyssey, is the developer behind the title, with AQ Interactive serving as publisher. The game will see Japanese release in March carrying a price of 5,980 yen.
Sakaguchi and crew have a second new RPG in the works for the DS as well. Away: Tsure Sareta Hitobito (The People Who Were Taken Away) will feature a scenario from Sakaguchi himself, music from Nobuo Uematsu, and character designs by Sonic the Hedgehog creator Naoto Ooshima. Artoon, the developer behind the Xbox 360 version of Blue Dragon, is developing the title, which will be released in Japan on 1/31/2008 through AQ Interactive. It too will be priced at 5,980 yen.
Gaming Union writes, "Tokyo Game Show 2009 wowed crowds and wooed gamers across the world, and while there were plenty of good and bad games alike, it's time to recognize the cream of the crop with our TGS 2009 Awards. This year Gaming Union is focusing on each individual console there, and to kick things off, a look at the Nintendo DS' best and brightest."
The second DS-based sequel to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Blue Dragon has been pushed back a week in Japan from October 1st to October 8th in order to make last-minute changes and improvements to the game.
Blue Dragon: Ikai no Kyojuu, roughly translated to Blue Dragon: Behemoth of the Underworld in English allows players to create their own avatars for online play whilst also having a fully-fledged storyline starring Blue Dragon regulars.
