Final Fantasy XIV Player Populations At Death’s Door

Final Fantasy XIV still clings to life, although – with its meagre player populations now a mere third or less of its peak – for how much longer is a matter of some quite unfriendly speculation.

That PS3 launch better be spectacular. I quit playing just over a month ago. I'm waiting for more content to be added...content, not "go here and fight this monster" or "make this item".

i think there just wont be any ps3 release and tht they'll pull the plug or go f2p with the game at some point

No they wouldn't do that. They've invested too much into XIV to just pull the plug. A PS3 version will definitely get released. Whether it succeeds or not will depend on the effort and creativity of SE.

depends , the game might just not give them back any money , and ends up being just further expenses with servers and patches alone .

Plenty mmo ames manage to came back from the brink of death with numerous good patches , but i'm not sure that game will with subs .

Now a shift into a f2p game with item sales would turn things around . And i aint saying that to avoid paying or anything , i actually dislike f2p games .

They are worthless and still a con imo , saves a few once sub based games .

I once looked forward to this title but once again SE messed up and now it's all about old republic for me. I hope that one delivers.

Only 17k peak is really sad for an MMO WoW has 12+ million subscribers.

Yeah. It got so bad that they removed the feature to let players check the server population. I guess it might discourage some.

That WoW number had duplicates and multi accounts.

Still even then 17k is very very low for an MMO.

I was one of those who was suckered into buying the Collector's Edition. What a bad idea that was. This game needs tons of patches to be worth playing. It's a shame too because I was a huge fan of FFXI, and so were many others.

you should have played the beta, you would have figured it out for free instead of wasting $80+ on the CE
