Pachter: LittleBigPlanet could ignite PlayStation 3 hardware sales in Japan

In a note to investors Monday, Wedbush Morgan analyst Pachter said he was particularly impressed with consumer reaction to Sony's LittleBigPlanet, Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed. "Each game appears to be well positioned to resonate with the Japanese audience," he said of the three titles.

He added, "...We think that LittleBigPlanet will be a console seller in Japan."

LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation 3 is under development by UK-based Media Molecule, which was founded in 2006 by former Lionhead designer and Rag Doll Kung Fu developer Mark Healy. The game incorporates a charming yet technically impressive style, backed up with emergent gameplay and concepts taken from user-centric websites such as YouTube and MySpace.

Ya, LBP looks like a great game with all that user generated content, but it don't have the brand name of MGS or FF, I believe LBP will move up the hardware sells, but not by a huge margin.

the ps3 will win japan with no problem i'm afraid to say.if anybody seen the tgs on g4 when they asked questions to game writers in japan about the 360 and why it can't seem to sell in japan with the games it has.
they answer was what i've been saying for years and sony fans alway have a smart a** remark saying i was stupid and i didn't know what i was talking about.the writers said that the japanese people are proud of their country and companies from japan and they just want to help their economy out and they just refuse to buy anything that's not made in japan especialy from the U.S.
if i was a sony fan i would've been embarresed or mad as h*ll after hearing this.they want us to buy their stuff but admit that they just want to buy stuff from their own country even if they have something better in another country.well i have nothing to be ashamed about,i always buy american made and support my own economy because like them i'm proud of my country to.
a lot of game fans might not remember when they came out with all the commercials and other advertisement about buying american made to support the U.S because if we don't it will hurt our economy and we wouldn't be the richest country in the world again.well they were right,now japan is,and thanks to all the people in the U.S that buy japan products and hope that an american company fells,and because people bought overseas products instead of products from the U.S they help japan to afford to buy about a quarter of the U.S,h*ll they own most of the companies in the U.S now thanks to them.

I dont understand the patriotic viewpoint you make, godof thunfer. The Playstation has also been the home of INMENSELY popular American series like GTA and GOW. If they get more japanese games its because they receive/scout more games from Japanese designers, but they dont' cater to just Japanasese.

This game for me is up on my big three list of KZII UT3 and this!
But honestly, it has already been shown through sales studies and such that Japanese gamers like a more 'linear' game style as opposed to 'choose your own path' type of play. So a full 'sandbox' game I would think, will NOT appeal to a huge amount of Japanese gamers.
I hope it does, but I can't see it. I think it will sell millions in Europe/North America/Australasia etc..

LBP is geared towards many. and with every game show there seems to be a huge following for the game. since it's unveiling at gdc07. it's been one of the main things that sony shows off at it's press releases and it's done a pretty good job of garnering attention. so it has that mass appeal. it might do pretty good in japan. and it could be just as big a seller as MGS4. japan seems to like cute quirky things such as this. and i believe Media molecule might have thought about japan in it's designing of this title. so we can only wait and see.

The ps3 definitely has the best games out of any console.. Most original games and unique... And the ps3 is getting great shooters now too.. they have the full package baby.. I love my ps3 wooo

This game looks so cool! I wish i could put my own music over the top of my levels! I think Pantera Cowboys from Hell with a western themed level would really rule!

Or maybe Pink Flyod Brain Damage along with lots of jumps and crazy level designs!

Pink Floyd's Brain Damage would be sick. With the right level, it could freak people out. :)

My level (IF we could include custom soundtracks) would have Kid A by Radiohead. IMHO, that song would be PERFECT for a game like this. Anyone who heard it would know what I mean.

This game is not for children just because it has alittle bit cuter or "happier" theme. Not every game should shove gory violence down your throat unless you're determined to be a serial killer. Americans have distorted, twisted views. Others games are much better than that.

This game is a system seller.. for me, at least. I don't get this "kiddy" thing. I don't see why you couldn't make a dark level with blood splatter on the walls or something.
