OMGN: PS3: My First Sony System

From article: In late January, I became the owner of a brand-new slim PS3. For me, this was a particularly momentous occasion. For most people, adding a new video game console to their collection is significant but not momentous. It's not like I got a PS3 on launch day or anything, and even then I'm not sure if you could classify that acquisition as momentous. No, this was momentous for me for one reason -- the PS3 is the first Sony video game system I've owned...

cannot believe there are people that skipped the ps2 era. Some of the very best games came out for it as far as I am concerned.

Anyways welcome to the dark side :P and as a couple of recommendations I think you should try Valkyria Chronicles and Demon Souls. Since you have played the first uncharted I am 99% positive you will pick up Uncharted 2.

It's weird to see kids play games today that are all sequels. Like playing REACH, Killzone 2/3, Fable, Splinter Cell, and not knowing about their first games. I think it's pretty cool there are HD upgrades out. It's a good way to get younger or newer gamers caught up for a cheap price.

Were the best gaming years for me and every other gamer im sure;-)...
Lucky for this noob there is psn downloads and hd collections available to get a taste of what he missed.

@Army_of_Darkness - Mine would be split between the Amiga days and PS1. Good times.

forcefullpower2966d ago

Agree with that Delbert.

Lover PS1 and PS2 but the Amiga 500 was the muts nuts.

Spectrum - Commodore 64 - Amega - PC - PS2 - 360 - PS3.

Just showing my age.

BloodyNapkin2966d ago

Well i am sorry to hear you have missed out on some of the greatest video games of all time.

@ravinash
I'm the same as you, Spectrum - Commodore 64 - Amega(change amiga for Sega Megadrive) - PC - PS2 - 360(change 360 for old xbox) - PS3.
I also played with the ZX81 at a friends house (his family was rich), 3D monster maze was one of the games for it. Also he had space invaders, which used A for your spaceship, W for invaders and * was your missiles. I was around 10 years old then and can still remember it well. 38 now and gaming more than ever on PS3.

I also noticed that! Skipping the PS2 era to me would be unimaginable...there is SO MUUUUUCH...TOOO MUCH to simply skip...the PS2 era to me will always go down as the best gaming years of my life.

MastaMold2966d ago (Edited 2966d ago )

I had NES, Sega Genesis, SNES, Sega CD, PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP something about Sony's systems that I did not need any other only if Sega would still have kept making systems

lee_ten2966d ago

the ps2 era was amazing. i spent countless hours on my ps2 and ps1. those were the days. :)

ThanatosDMC2966d ago

After i read this, all i could think about is "what a dumbass". He missed out all of those games. Makes me wonder if he wrote articles about games he's never played.

I can't believe there are people who skipped the PS1 era. That console was a classic, and it was my first console. I have great memories of going down to my living room on Xmas morning and seeing it hooked up to my TV.

I started out a Sega fan as well... but when I saw Sega releasing consoles on a yearly basis, I switched to PS1. Sony has always had a good reputation for quality hardware, and when they introduced the pricing tiers I was hooked. I've owned the PS1 - PS3 and will soon get a PSP.

I wanted to back MS (being Pro-American and all) when they came out with the XBox, but MS has a history of "XYZ of death" showing up in their products. So I waited and to my surprise, XB1 was rock solid. Just when I was on the verge of getting one when they announced the XB360 and that they where killing support for the XB1.

When it comes to consoles, I never get the first batch as a general precaution. So during the summer of 07 I was looking into getting one and was simply just waiting for the rumored price drop to hit. That's when the first reports of RRoD came in, and my desire for an XB360 vanished... well until Mass Effect came along.

It seems that with Windows and now consoles, MS has a history of good product, followed by a bad one, followed by a good one, and so on. So hopefully the XB720 will be my first MS console.

OT:
In the mean time, welcome to the PS family. We are sure you will enjoy yourself greatly. If you have any questions feel free to contact our VP of everything Kevin Butler... he is always ready to help.

Buy Killzone 3 you wont regret it buddy.

Megaton2966d ago

Can't imagine skipping the PS1 and PS2. Many of the best games ever made were only on those two consoles.

Cheetos2966d ago (Edited 2966d ago )

I skipped the ps1 and got the n64 for mario, zelda and all the awesome nintendo first party games but the ps2 was just too good to miss out on, had a gamecube and a ps2 last gen.

Megaton2966d ago

I had both the PS1 and the N64, plus a Sega Saturn. I actually think the PS1 had a better library than the PS2, especially if you like JRPGs. Those were SquareSoft's best years.

i would give MS a chance if they offer free online play for xbox 720. Up until now ive owned NES, then Playstation 1, then PC gaming period, and now finally PS3. Yeah i skipped PS2 also :(.

My friend had it and i never got into, but now thinking back im starting to realize how many amazing games he got to play.
