Aspiring Developers Take Note: Move.Me Unveiled at GDC

Hi Gamers, John McCutchan, Senior Engineer with SCEA’s Developer Support team, here to tell you about an exciting initiative we’re unveiling for PlayStation Move during GDC this week. Later today, I’ll be giving a presentation on Move.Me, a new software application that provides academics and hobbyists access to PlayStation Move’s technology, enabling them to create entirely new applications using a PC, the Move motion controller, the PlayStation Eye, and the power of the PlayStation 3 system. We know many of you might not be able to make the trek to San Francisco for the show, so we wanted to give you a quick overview of Move.Me here.

This is very good news. Reminds me of all of the Kinect hacks except this is a more legitimate way of doing it. Plus Sony might actually use what these guys find works well with the MOVE.

If that's what MOVE.me does then that is indeed very interesting news.

I liked some of the Move tech demos I saw and if more users can fiddle around with that then perhaps we can see some good things coming out of it.

Come to think of it, after seeing Kinect hacks, I'd love to see hacks for Move. It'd be really cool if gamers could program Move for games themselves.

that chameleon tech demo seemed like a great time-waster, and I mean that in a good way.

KillerPwned4743d ago

Will this app be available for everyone?

Gr814743d ago

Who is buying MOVE at this point?

Spitfire_Riggz4743d ago

Actually MORE people are going to buy move with KZ3 and soon Socom 4. Including me

cochise3134743d ago (Edited 4743d ago )

Try using it and you'll see how great it is. It's funny you say it's not selling, yet it's always sold out at stores.

Sheddi4743d ago

Bought it the other day with KZ3 and i must say, it really improves ur gaming and its heaps fun!!
Just beat KZ3 on elite with move and it wasnt even that hard.

cochise3134743d ago

Try it with the sharpshotter. It's 10x more fun and accurate.

pilotpistolpete4743d ago (Edited 4743d ago )

I know what you mean Sheddi, I'm playing it on Veteran and it's a breeze so far. Move just makes it better, funner and more accurate to pick off guys.

My favorite "new feature" Move allows is running and gunning multiple targets fluidly and without looking like an idiot zigzag'ing around.

jack_burt0n4743d ago

@Anius

dont ever try move because then you will realise what a piece of crap wii motion plus is.

NateCole4743d ago

A Nav controller and a Sharp Shooter for KZ3 and Socom4. I already own 2 Move controllers. Since I'm a tech head, this is good news for me, just build a new PC not long ago, I am interested.

Is this something that's supposed to be bought or is it available as a free download?

A Small Mistranslation of PlayStation's Multiplatform Plans Causes Panic Among Sony Fans

A mistranslated statement by Sony's CFO and COO Hiroki Totoki about PlayStation's multiplatform plans is causing unwarranted panic among some PS5 fans.

They might be talking about Bungie's game Marathon. That game will also launch on Xbox.

Jin_Sakai5d ago

“Sony's President quote clarified, "multi-platform" means PS and PC NOT Xbox and Switch“

Everyone should’ve known this.

Abriael5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I've read that making the rounds, but that's actually false (I believe it comes from a site doing some speculation and another site quoting it as gospel, because people nowadays can't do their job, it appears).

Totoki-san didn't issue any such clarification anywhere. He did not say anywhere or at any time that he doesn't mean Xbox and Switch.

But that's because no clarification is actually needed.

The original statement itself, if translated correctly as mentioned in the article, is pretty clear in the fact that he's focusing on PC and not other consoles.

Lightning775d ago

That it a correct assessment yes.

Jin_Sakai5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

“Totoki-san didn't issue any such clarification anywhere. He did not say anywhere or at any time that he doesn't mean Xbox and Switch.“

He also didn’t say anywhere that he did mean Xbox or Switch.

Einhander19725d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Typical, you write an article that correctly states that he is talking about PC, then you go directly into the comments to misinform people about what you just wrote.

And you're not the only person who can read Japanese. He does not say anything about xbox or Switch in the entirety of his message. You are just saying what you want to hear and what you want people to think.

The Microsoft agents on the web are going hard into a pressure campaign to manipulate the messaging in Microsoft favor.

Abriael4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Einhander1972: You don't seem to be able to read English considering that you appear to have completely misread my comment.

Read it again. Slowly. You literally repeated what I said and then said I'm wrong lol.

You really should chill, being a console warrior is unhealthy. Makes you see "agents" of the "enemy" in every shadow. 😂

After Sony changed their mind on PC support... guess we can truly never say never.
