Why Are We Getting Dual Shock 3 in 2008?

The Dual Shock 3 announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2007 was hardly shocking, but when Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group COO Kaz Hirai revealed North American and European gamers wouldn't receive the peripheral until Spring 2008, eyebrows raised. Folks in Japan will experience PlayStation 3 rumbling before the year is out and Hirai's reveal seemed to gloss over this anomaly.

As long as it comes out before KZ2, MGS4, and GT5, then I'm happy. But getting out sooner would be greatly appreciated.

i dont get all the fuss. its not like we dont know what a rumble feels like. why is everyone building hype for it????

even the nintendo 64 had it........

But he said "The rumble we have in the Dualshock 2 right now is sort of last generation, if you will." He was talking about touch-sense. If the Dualshock 3 doesn't seem significantly better than the Dualsock 2...he's an idiot.

If you're going to launch a product like this in NA or EU - as oppose to Japan - you've got to produce an awful lot of them before you can get them on the shelves. It just takes time - get them produced, shipped, on store shelves. 5 or 6 months really isn't all that crazy, but I can understand wondering why they chose to announce it so far in advance. My guess is that the news was getting out anyway so they just went ahead with it - hey, TGS is as good a time as any.

everything is announced waaaaaayyy in advance of release, why should this be any different? and i agree, by the time they revealed rumble it wasn't so much an announcement as rumor control.

They have stopped shipping anything related to Playstation i.e. PSP and PS3 games and accessories to Europe :-(

Ebay is your best bit and watch out for the rip off prices.

Unlike Microsoft, Sony actually has quality standards to uphold and would rather work out the kinks in Japan before shipping the DS3 to the rest of the world.

Releasing the rumble controller in 2008 is a seriously bad move for Sony. I don't care about rumble much, but some peoeple sure seem to.

Adding a feature where the 360 beats them doesn't matter in Japan, they have the battle won over there. They should release it here, where the battle is still up for grabs.

Currently, Sony needs the NA market more than the NA market needs Sony.

because i dont think any of the games released this year had the tech to add it into the game. so there really is no point to release it out now if no games can support it...makes sense to me

and its not sony's wrong move - they had to seattle the court thing first....u think if that didnt happen that the PS3 wouldnt be shipped already with the dualshock 3...lol come on now

Yeah this doesn't really make sense. Unless Sony is planning some kind of relaunch/price cut this spring with all the great games coming out then they should just get it out asap. Might just be a bunch of Sixaxis controllers in storage they wanna get rid of first. And they better be making it standard in the package as soon as it's availiable.
