The fierce competition between AMD and NVIDIA is about to get spicier with the introduction of genuinely high-end graphics cards from both companies.
7680 x 2160 across six full-HD screens Max game settings 8xAA 16xAF in Glorious EYEFINITY with 3D. This is the ULTIMATE in Enthusiast GAMING... oh oh aahhhhh, I just jizzed in my pants!!
This and Battlefield 3 is way up there on my wish list :-)
If only there is a PC game that actually take full advantage of that card...
if only AMD could make good drivers to compliment this
MAJ0R AMD does and been doing since 2007 on other hand nvidia ist not been so good even releasing drivers that burn your graphic card .
iirc I believe Nvidia released drivers that were frying cards in sc2 not too long ago. Nothin against Nvidia but in the pc game if you remain loyal to one company you get burned (pun intended? hmmmm) break free of the fanboy chains when it comes to pc hardware your wallet/wife will thank you. the 5970 launched at 700-800ish. the 5xxx series were a pricey card at launch. The 6xxx series so far are launching at really good prices. my 6970 was about 100 bucks cheaper then my 5870. so much power going to waste in my wife's pc. its pretty much just a internet browsing pc that's rocking a phenom II quad @ 3.4ghz and a 5870 =\
@ Combo Breaker There are several thousand games that take full advantage of this card. this card runs everything maxed out even above 1920 x 1080 resolution. The main reason for this card is to game on multiple monitors but if you were a PC gamer you would know that! if your gonna game on lets say 3 30" Dell monitors this is the card you need to get max performance.
What I meant is that this card is overkill and that no PC game are being made to take 100% full advantage of this card.
holy crap my pants!! it's a shame if you will need 2 gtx 590s to do 3d! 6990 must have very good cooling sys to have just 1 fan!
Mother of god...
Hey Pandamobile how good are these specs for a well/good quality Desktop PC ? I know this isn't directed at me but for gaming it's good, but not great. You'll be able to play most games maxed or near maxed, all games at least med/high but if you want to max/very high games like Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 you'll need a better GPU. The GTX 460 is medium-range. Other than that it's a pretty great system. I'd say about £500-600 from a very quick summation in my head (didn't look up prices, from memory). I'm assuming this is pre-built, so it'll cost you more like £800+ The price I gave was for building it yourself. Err I personally would go with the i5 2500k as the new B3 Stepping P67 Boards are coming out now so there're no hardware problems with SATA ports any more. Also card-wise I'd get a Radeon HD6950 and flash the bios to a HD6970.
wow man, just wooooow, ATI have more realistic pic than Nvidea .
will be interesting to see this monsters cost,
I believe that Nvidia will take the crown with their dual-gpu card, but I am glad that they both pursue this^^
So are these cards gonna be more expensive than the 580? wow... hopefully the 580 drops in price a lil ;)... yes ill keep dreaming :(
how much is the 580?
Actually, I believe your thinking about the 590, which is going to be nVidia's dual GPU counterpart.
No, Chris, he was referring to the 580. Hoping that the release of the 590 drops the 580 in price, then thebudgetgamer queried the price of the 580. Could just google it much more easily.
GTX 580 runs around 500 dollars as i can tell. I am settling for a 570 for around 350 dollars. I do have to ask, what is so special about the 590 and what does duel gpu mean? is it as simple as two gpus taped together?
Probably will be cheaper than the 580. ATI is really good at their price-performance ratio.
WRONG. The 5970 was priced at 1 grand, if the 6990 is a replacement for the 5970, it's going to be around that price as well.
@newtype A grand in which currency ? It was £600 in the UK
Wrong newtype, the 5970 was initially priced at $700, that's quite a difference from what you're claiming. Unless of course, the one that cost a grand had a custom cooler and was factory overclocked by a lot.
it was the dual 5870 ARES that was 1k
It won't be less than the 580, certainly not. It'll probably be better value for it's performance though, ATI almost always are, though Nvidia mostly run cooler, have more stable drivers (though ATI add more features so that's inevitable) and are more supported by devs.
Beastly card. I'm just gonna buy a second 5870 though and wait for the next series to come out...
me too but im going to wait a while because my single 5870 is fine at the moment.
I added another 5850 to my rig about a month ago when I upgraded to sandy bridge. Have them overclocked at 980/1200 for both cards and they destroy whatever you throw at them. I had the same idea as you, add another cheap card now and double my frames and wait to see how the next line of cards perform, or just wait till we see 20nm GPUs.
So this article is based on conjecture and not actual specs yet? I don't think people should be flailing their arms in the air yet until benchmarks are done and the price is shown. However, this is got to be more powerful than the 5970 so I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
bro's got a point. Typical hype-article. Was kinda hopin' for some "leaked" chinese BM but oh well..
That is one long ass card. One monster of a GFX card indeed.
Holy moly. Hello new Natecole graphics card. Nice to meet you.
GASSPPPPP!!! HONEY! I KNOW WHAT I WANT FOR OUR 2 YR ANNIVERSARY!
What a beast. Wish I had the kind of money to blow on that. Just gonna stick with the $300 range cards that are %80 as good.
this dual gpu battle will be good for all of us
I plan on buying two cards soon, either the 590 or the 6990. Can't wait to see benchies in the coming weeks.
Yup going to be an interesting dual gpu comparison coming up. IMO I think the 590 will outperform the 6990, but then again something tells me that if the 6990 really is 4GB, it will blow the 590 out of the water in terms of 3 Monitors.
My thoughts too. I want to go ahead and step up to eyefinity. Plus if AMD is able to keep the wattage required lower than nVidia, I'll be sold. Even if the 590s are a little more powerful. Otherwise I maybe going back to nVidia soon on my main rig.
I'll keep my 580 tbh, but i'd like to see its power consumption and size
