AMD Radeon HD 6990 dual-GPU graphics card officially outed

The fierce competition between AMD and NVIDIA is about to get spicier with the introduction of genuinely high-end graphics cards from both companies.

The story is too old to be commented.

This and Battlefield 3 is way up there on my wish list :-)

If only there is a PC game that actually take full advantage of that card...

MAJ0R3758d ago

if only AMD could make good drivers to compliment this

z1ck3758d ago

MAJ0R AMD does and been doing since 2007 on other hand nvidia ist not been so good even releasing drivers that burn your graphic card .

evrfighter3758d ago (Edited 3758d ago )

iirc I believe Nvidia released drivers that were frying cards in sc2 not too long ago.

Nothin against Nvidia but in the pc game if you remain loyal to one company you get burned (pun intended? hmmmm)

break free of the fanboy chains when it comes to pc hardware your wallet/wife will thank you.

the 5970 launched at 700-800ish. the 5xxx series were a pricey card at launch. The 6xxx series so far are launching at really good prices.

my 6970 was about 100 bucks cheaper then my 5870. so much power going to waste in my wife's pc. its pretty much just a internet browsing pc that's rocking a phenom II quad @ 3.4ghz and a 5870 =\

@ Combo Breaker

There are several thousand games that take full advantage of this card. this card runs everything maxed out even above 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The main reason for this card is to game on multiple monitors but if you were a PC gamer you would know that!

if your gonna game on lets say 3 30" Dell monitors this is the card you need to get max performance.

ComboBreaker3757d ago (Edited 3757d ago )

What I meant is that this card is overkill and that no PC game are being made to take 100% full advantage of this card.

holy crap my pants!! it's a shame if you will need 2 gtx 590s to do 3d!

6990 must have very good cooling sys to have just 1 fan!

I know this isn't directed at me but for gaming it's good, but not great. You'll be able to play most games maxed or near maxed, all games at least med/high but if you want to max/very high games like Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 you'll need a better GPU. The GTX 460 is medium-range.

Other than that it's a pretty great system. I'd say about £500-600 from a very quick summation in my head (didn't look up prices, from memory).

I'm assuming this is pre-built, so it'll cost you more like £800+ The price I gave was for building it yourself. Err I personally would go with the i5 2500k as the new B3 Stepping P67 Boards are coming out now so there're no hardware problems with SATA ports any more.

Also card-wise I'd get a Radeon HD6950 and flash the bios to a HD6970.

I believe that Nvidia will take the crown with their dual-gpu card, but I am glad that they both pursue this^^
