The games that started it all for the popular franchise are now on the PSP together. How do they fare over twenty years later on Sony’s handheld? CtrlAltKill chronicles their adventures in the estranged land of Ys.
COG writes: As Ys IX: Monstrum Nox for the PS4 has now arrived we thought it's the perfect time to rank the 8 Ys games of the series from the worst to the best.
Ys: Memories of Calceta was the best Vita game I have ever played. It was perfect on that system.
VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "The PSP was blessed with multiple entries and this support continued onto the Vita, with remakes, ports, and a brand new title releasing over the course of the handheld’s life. It made the franchise a perfect choice for this series of articles, because although the series' future definitely isn’t on Sony’s handhelds at this point, it still had some brilliant representation over the past 12 years.
So in this article I’ll be looking back at a history of the franchise on Sony’s handhelds, from its origins on the PSP right through the latest release on Vita, with an emphasis on the quality of the ports to the handhelds as well as any sales figures that are available, alongside a conclusion of how well the franchise has done on the platforms."
Oath at Fhelgana, Seven, Memories of Celceta and Lacrimosa of Dana are amazing games. I adore the Ys series, and Adol is one of my favorite JRPG characters ever.
This month the feature looks back on the handheld ports of the first two games in the Ys series.
Nice review. Going to be really hard to get into this though...
One hell of a classic game. Though I'm surprised it had gotten that high of a score considering how old the game ACTUALLY is.
Classic RPG is anyone is interested and (IMO) Falcom had updated it well so younger gamers could play it.
I played some of the Ys games, I wish combat in Action RPGs was a bit more varied. Sadly, it is further limited on the handheld systems.
I actually would like to know where all the Ys game began. This is great news and the fact that there is a PSN version is awesome since i'm switching to digital for psp in preparation for the NGP.
