Game Informer Review DiRT for PS3:
"Rally racing isn't very popular in America, so don't feel bad if phrases like "Caution...60....crest and left two" sound like gibberish to you at first. But trust me, Dirt will soon convert you to one of the most thrilling forms of video game racing. Rally's twisted courses require your full attention at all times; one false move can doom you to last place in a split second. Dirt definitely gives you plenty to love. The single-player career is long and exhaustive, throwing you a huge variety of vehicles, events, and courses. The control is excellent, although the car physics make you feel like you are turning on a pivot instead of a four-wheeled vehicle, making sliding a little frustrating at times. I also bemoan the lack of multi-car online races (you can only compete solo, then test your times against others). Still, most of this game is as good as it gets. With a few tweaks, the next edition of Dirt could be a classic."
Steam has slashed 75% off of several Codemasters' racing titles including GRID, FUEL, DiRT, DiRT 2 and ToCA Race Driver 3 along with a bundle containing all five titles as part of its weekend deal promotion.
The first DiRT title was released just before McRae's horribly premature passing, and saw Codemasters essentially rip everything up and start again, giving the franchise a face-lift fit for the next-generation. It highlighted the tone of a series moving increasingly further from the realistic, 'pure' brand of rallying in the earlier games to a more arcade-orientated, thrill-seeking approach. Whether seduced by the bright-lights of, for example, Project Gotham Racing, or whether Codemasters were just seeking change for the sake of change lest creative stagnation take hold, DiRT 2 (yes the strange lower case 'I' is intentional) represents the consolidation of this new approach.
Colin McRae: Dirt 2 (Dirt 2 outside of Europe) is a racing game scheduled to be released in September 2009, and is the sequel to Colin McRae: Dirt. This is the first game in the McRae series after Colin's death. It was announced on 19 November 2008 and will feature the late Colin McRae as well as Ken Block and Travis Pastrana.
Looks like a good game for racing fans.
i think this score is for this great game too low.
Impressive.
i downloaded the demo and it wasn't as good as motorstorm but then again the two are very different games so it's horses for courses
the game looks great...but I can't stand the way the cars handle...you can stop in about 3 feet...on any surface...the extensions from dirt to tarmac make no difference on the car...it just doesn't feel right...
the production values are high...and its nice that the PS3 version has none of the framerate problems that plagued the other platforms (interestingly this review makes no note of it)...and the damage modeling is about as good as it gets...but the "turning on a pivot" is a great way to describe it...and the extremely "friendly" braking makes it frustratingly hard to manage speed...
I know this tries to be a sim more than an arcade racer...but this game can't touch Motorstorm on gameplay, and from the demo of Sega Rally...it can't touch that either...its a shame about Colin McRae...but the game attempts to be a rally sim, yet fails at the most important part of being a sim...the way the car handles...
