Before a new console is released maybe its time for the world economies to stop sucking monkey butt. I personally don't need a new console, I am happy with my 360.

phatak5230d ago

thats such a stupid idea, new consoles= more expensive game development=more expensive games= even more losses

ChozenWoan5230d ago

^^^ So true!

Until PS3 and 360Elite hits $99, why rush this gen. Many people just paid $299 for their first gen8 console this holiday season. let them get to enjoy this gen a few years before they are asked to invest that kind of money into a console again. Not to mention that games still cost $60 day one, so just imagine how much the games for a gen9 console would cost if released this or next year.

Both Sony and MS promised us a 10yr console cycle this time around, so settle in and enjoy the great games this gen is just beginning to bring to the table.

BattleAxe5230d ago

I think MS needs a new console and also Nintendo. They're both losing steam in the marketplace. Sony is staying pretty strong, especially with all the exclusive games comming out this year and with GT5 being released not too long ago.

FarEastOrient5230d ago

With the world economy still recovering and many nations rioting over rising food prices it's a great idea to release new consoles due to decreased sales. That is the dumbest article idea I've heard in awhile, especially when the PS3 is at $300 and Xbox 360 at $200 - $250.

tmoss7265230d ago

Also why would MS make a new console right after releasing Kinect?

AAACE55230d ago

People don't have to upgrade! We as gamers feel we need to have the best stuff available. But it's not like new consoles come out and everyone automatically abandons the old ones!

In Japan, the Dreamcast continued to pump out games even though it was considered dead. Ps2 still has games released for it as we speak!

If new consoles come out, there will still be games released for the Ps3, 360 and Wii because so many people own them. Games stop coming out when those games don't sell well on a console.

The economy is partly the reason, but also historically the prices of consoles should be lower by now.

Release of new console is usually spawned by fear of competition getting ahead with a new console release. As it is Nintendo is not threat to the other two, nor do the other two managed to profit enough from their last release.

With that in mind, there will definitely be no new console from Sony in a while due to inability to profit from their current console still, MS is more likely though, but got no pressure from Sony to release a new console.

Nintendo has the highest likely hood of releasing a new console for a number of reasons:

a) Their console is priced low enough and not gaining sales traction. There isn't much more room to stir up sales.

b) Wii is loosing it's differentiating factor with Xbox 360 having Kinect and to a lesser extent PS3 with PS Move.

c) Nintendo releasing a new console would mean performance leap, while still able to price their console at close to current console prices i.e. they would be very competitive.

d) Nintendo would likely be the only console in the market gaining traction fast due to new hardware i.e. no real competition.

Imagine a $300-400 Nintendo console can do. The two other competitors wouldn't be able to keep up technologically and either had to lower their price or suffer. The only thing is, will the next console from Nintendo incorporate proper online play and social features. If not... it is doomed to be used by casuals and children.

edit: @phatak:
A lot of that has to do with the tools available. Today a one man team can make unbelievable games that just a decade ago was sold at retail and made by a team. XNA for instance is an amazing piece of tool.

So yes, cost increase will incur. However, not necessarily as expensive as people think it will. It's all in the tools!

xTruthx5230d ago

Man I have a feeling that the next gen games are gonna cost 80 to 100 bucks each lol, thats gonna hurt

MintBerryCrunch5230d ago (Edited 5230d ago )

lol, no

both the 3DS and the NGP (hopefully worldwide release) will be coming out in 2011...that should whet some appetites

Hanif-8765230d ago (Edited 5230d ago )

NGP is what i needed all my life. However, new consoles would be good or i'll need a really good PC to run Battlefield 3 at max setting. I have a quad core Alienware laptop with a 1 GB NVIDIA 335M GPU but i'd prefer gaming on a desktop because i really need a bigger screen. I really wanna see Battlefield 3 on PS3 to know whether or not its a good buy. I hope that they implement MLAA on the PS3 because if not then its probably PC for me. Battlefield Bad Company 2 for me is the best FPS ever made :-)

You can always hook lappy up to an external monitor?

Urrakia345230d ago

Less hardware sales? Hmmmm maybe because the majority of people already own a console???

evrfighter5230d ago

ding!

Despite what the fanboys think. People are ready for next-gen. ngp is nice and all but its essentially just a handheld ps3 for the price of a ps3...pretty much just buying another ps3.

I wouldn't mind Nintendo giving us a new home console to go along with the 3DS. As for the PS3 and 360 they can wait a few more years. Although for the next generation of consoles I just dont want a graphics upgrade. I better get most games running in true 1080p and 60fps. Something that was promised this generation and hasn't happened.

Depends which console will be rolling out. I dont want another playstation home console yet.

The Evil Within Deserved More: A Great Horror Series Left Behind

The Outerhaven writes: While I hold Bethesda's The Evil Within series as some of the best Survival Horror games available, it's clear that Bethesda has no intention of revisiting the series. While Capcom is still working on its Resident Evil series, I look back at the now-dead survival horror series from Bethesda, wondering why the series was left wide open, and yet still not revisited.

An OK horror series left behind. It had some great ideas, but it never knew how to play to its strengths. Instead, it came out like just another RE4 clone.

I would love for a third entry to come out, but it needs to learn to lean in on the psychological aspect and move away from the generic "pew pew" ideology at the center of the gameplay loop. It doesn't need to abandon it; it just needs to put it into better context, is all.

Also, try a first-person perspective instead. Too many 3rd-person games with nothing to offer but an avatar taking precious screen space. At least make it an actual option and not that janky-ass mess the second game pretended to have.

Love both games, hope that we will get third game

PS5/Pro/Switch 2 version of RDR2 seems most likely. I’d love a RDR3 but that seems years away

Cacabunga10h ago

Id be happy for just a 60fps patch

OmegaSoldati9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Agreed, but at the same time RD2 came out in 2018. Could it be a remake of Red Dead 1?

Spoiler:

Marston died in the end of Red Dead and Red Dead 2 is set before that. Im curious now. What news could it be?

mkis0072h ago

I'm pretty sure the next game will be another prequel as the story really has no where to go as far as being a western after red dead redemption. The next game will end with the ferry boat incident.

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Their contracts are iron clas if they leak anything legit they are threatened with immense legal action.

My hopes for what this is are minimal its probably a meet and greet with the cast

I dont see why they would be involved in a upgraded version of rdr2 when the dialogue hasn't changed

thorstein8h ago

He seems to have been cleared to do this as he purposely picked up the game, streamed it, and made the announcement.

XBLA Classic 'A World of Keflings' Is Coming to Steam, and There's a Demo

"Back in the innocent days of 2010, A World of Keflings was a fairly popular successor to A Kingdom for Keflings. I even wrote about it a few times in 2012! But the world of humans moved on, and NinjaBee's city-building/adventure game was last seen on the ill-fated Wii U in 2014. Fast-forward to the dark year of 2025, and not only is A World of Keflings coming to Steam, but there's already a playable demo! Perhaps the cheerful, no pressure gameplay that the Keflings bring is just what we need nowadays," says Co-Optimus.
