Marvel vs. Capcom 3 review: 7/10 in Edge

Edge has kicked its Marvel vs Capcom 3 review into touch, and it's ultimately a good showing for the comic book beat 'em up.

The mag gives the game 7 out of 10, saying that while it doesn't have the longevity and depth of what are considered the genre's greatest, it does have the potential to "enchant even the most jaded fight fan".

So has any one actually got this game? if you have is it good? would you advise me to get it? reply to me :)

Mohdunknown5238d ago

This game is a blessing. Especially for me who have been playing fighting games hardcore for the past 10 years. Yes it lack the extra modes, but who cares when the fighting system is so deep and fun. Get it and have fun with it. It caters to the casuals with the "simple mode" as well as the hardcore. Amazing visuals, amazing performance, big/intriguing roster coupled with its accessibility and complexity make it one hell of a fighting game and a sequel I have been waiting for it release for 10 years. It truly takes you for a ride

M3t4lSn4k35238d ago

all of that sounds amazing i have played the over M.V.C games and i found them awesome i could play hours on end lol

ElementX5238d ago

Fighting system isn't that deep, each character only had a handful of moves

Baka-akaB5238d ago (Edited 5238d ago )

Sure dante is an exception , but with 40 moves he begs to differ .
Heck a regular street fighter game usually doesnt have more moves neither on their list . The rest comes from strategies and combos .

Optical_Matrix5238d ago

ElementX doesn't know what he's talking about. Neither do Street Fighter characters save for say, Gen for example. The depth doesn't come from how many moves you have. It's how you use the moves along with the fundamentals of the fighting system that makes it deep. Again, SSFIV is an example of that, and judging by MvC3, it will be the same.

No way in hell are casuals going to seriously utilize the insane combo strings that I'm seeing in the final missions of mission mode. I was worried this was going to be too casual friendly. But as with SFIV and SSFIV since release, although being clearly unbalanced, the pro's and dedicated fighter fans will put the scrubs and bandwagon jumpers in their place with this one.

Boody-Bandit5237d ago (Edited 5237d ago )

I myself could not recommend this game enough and disagree with ElementX more. I picked up MvsC3 for both consoles and I am having a blast. I have been playing it every chance I get. Its an absolute non stop chaotic fun!

Not deep enough ElementX. What game are you playing? Because it sure as he'll isn't MvsC3.

ElementX5237d ago

Well I'm sorry, I like games with more than 6 moves per character.

Baka-akaB5237d ago (Edited 5237d ago )

Then you do not play 2d and 2.5d fighting games and are wasting our time .

Street fighter doesnt feature more moves overall .
nor does Blazblue , nor does any King of Fighters , nor Fatal fury , nor Last blade , nor samurai spirits .

The average is always 4 special moves and 2 to 3 super/hyper/megas . Of course it varies according to characters ... so keep pretending that a few characters of mvc3 dont have much more .

Boody-Bandit5237d ago (Edited 5237d ago )

I honestly don't know why I am even wasting my time ElementX but WTF, why not. Your mere few moves per characters only proves to those that actually play MvsC, SF, Blaze style games that your opinion is worthless.

You are trying to pretend that special and mega/ultra/super moves are the ony commands these games have to offer. That is beyond nonsense and just shows us your ignorance of these games engines and depth. Then you go on to say you are a fan of Tekken? The launch the opposition into the air and juggle combo them to death with no means to break these cheesy ass combos?

Please do us all a favor and stick to lame button mashers and leave the skillful fighters to those that actually have the intellect to play them.

Nearly every direction on the pad / joystick and button press is a different attack, along with air attacks, tag attacks, air combo timed attacks, team attacks and various other strategies MvsC3 has to offer those that are willing to take the time to learn it.

Tekken is a lot easier game to play. Maybe that is why "you" prefer it.

jetlian5237d ago (Edited 5237d ago )

no way!! and the game is average. I got the LE edition too. way to many characters play the same.

I think thats why it feels so average. this the first fighter to truly let me down. BB did 2 years ago but it didn't have a legacy so it wasn't nearly as bad

snk has more moves than street fighter and the combo setup in this is far to simple.

Tekken and pretty much any 3D fighter is on a way higher level than all 2d fighters.juggles are like combos from street fighter.

button mashing lol damn near everyone in this has the same air combo/setup!! l,m,h,s,m,m,h,s this combo can be added with a switch to your other characters too

edit: you also forget sf4 has more custom combos this more about going in circles from weak to strong.

Gohadouken5237d ago (Edited 5237d ago )

Exept snk games doesnt feature more truly .

I can easily pick an example such as Terry bogard from Kof 98' and see that beyond normals , he got like 6 special moves and 2 supers

Just like you can notice that Blue mary got 5 moves in Kof 2002 outside of supers and normals .

And the list goes on and on .

Like mentioned above , you have issues with MVC3 , fine . But stop trying to pick on the game on a non-issue and something every other 2d fighting game do .

jetlian5237d ago (Edited 5237d ago )

wasn't talking about the number of moves but the options of the moves. sf4 has more character types. Advancing on charge types can be dangerous but its also the fact they have them! throwing characters have better setups. in this hagger is wack.

everyone in this has way to much rundown potential. the pace is more masher friendly than sf4 and other 2d games.

Edit: say you are talking about moves. in mvc2 you had 4 attack buttons this you have 3.

Gohadouken5237d ago (Edited 5237d ago )

This guy we were initially answering to was precisely talking about moves , not character type . I dont agree with you but at least you actually have an argument , the other guy above was just trolling and doesnt care for 2d fighting games anyway ... wich is fine .

It doesn't have enough modes if you ask me. Reminds me of Soul Calibur IV, the focus was detail and online battles. Not diversity.

Every Marvel vs. Capcom Character, Together At Last

Artist Chris Cayco, who we’ve featured a few times before on Kotaku, grew up playing Marvel vs. Capcom (and Marvel vs. Street Fighter) games. His tribute to this, which took him over 175 hours, was to combine every single character to ever appear in Capcom’s crossover series in the one enormous image.

Every Capcom Vs. Game Ranked

As common as it is today, it is hard to believe that there was a time where gaming franchises crossing over was just a pipe dream. Capcom broke down the wall, but they took the combination of some of the most unlikely of franchises and made it the norm.

Whether it was a colossal successful partnership with Marvel Comics or a collaboration with rivals Namco and SNK, the “Vs.” series brought unforgettable experiences to the fighting genre.
