Everything You Wanted to Know About Ys, the Action-RPG Underdog

If you're interested in the Ys series, but don't know where to begin, consider this start guide an essential reading.

I played Y's I&II on Turbo Grafx long before there was even a PlayStation 1. It was the most open world action RPG at the time. When most JRPG's were turn bases, this guy was a real time arch mage, where you got more and more powerful as you went deeper into the game. When you returned to previous towns, some were completely destroyed or improved, and the previous difficult enemies were now weak pest.

I think that game is the father of modern day WRPG's.

Which is the best for newcomers to the series?

AndrewLB3793d ago

Yeah. Seven is a great starter, then after that I suggest playing I&II complete, followed by Origin (gives a lot of background to the story because it pre-dates I&II. Follow those up with Celceta, Oath In Felghana, and Ark of Napishtim. In that order.

Without playing the ealier games, much of Felghana and Napishtim would make zero sense IMO. You need an understanding of the Eldeen race to fully enjoy the later games.

Ys Seven is different though, because even though many questions are unanswered, it seeems Falcom moved on from the Eldeen and onto new things. i wont say more, to prevent spoiling things.

Oh... and if any of you want to know the best method of playing Ys: Seven.... it's on PC. There is a emulator for PSP called PPSSPP and works perfectly.

Seven but Felghana also good for newcomers.

I am buying Felgana for my Vita.

Great deal!

I played Naphishtim on the PS2, having not played any of the previous games, and still enjoyed it a lot.
