Resident Evil 4 Wii/GC to PS2/PC visual comparison

Gameswelike writes: "The PS2 version of RE4 is a fair imitation of the GC one, and we compliment it on the fact that it runs just as smoothly as the original. But it does make a lot of graphical compromises. The biggest one is the loss of most of the lighting. The PS2 version sacrifices the ambient world lighting, and also much of the dynamic lighting. For example, take these 3 shots below. On the left, Leon is first lit by the muzzle flash from his shotgun, and then by the barrel explosion. On the right, there is no light from the muzzle flash on Leon's face, and the explosion is somewhat more subdued."

GC version > PS2 version > PC version

Substance1014810d ago

PC version can be modded with high res textures, i think it would win that way.

jc485734810d ago (Edited 4810d ago )

isn't wii the most updated version which includes all contents?

@below

I meant to say console wise.

PirosThe4th4810d ago

Nope... PC version with the high res questions plus the latest patches added so many extra effects...
lol the wii version is SD nuff' said XD

RedDead4810d ago (Edited 4810d ago )

Wii > GC version anyway, it's the best version imo, the motion controller actually suits it alot. Pc is far better looking though, especailly with the ENBseries version's of it.

And hey, it's never too late for Res 4

holey crap, the GC version is way better than the Ps2 one. Although the GC was more powerful than the Ps2, it just lacked support/

disgaeapuchi4810d ago (Edited 4810d ago )

Even if the PC version is modded does that change the fact the PC version's cutscenes all remain in SD, recorded off the realtime GC/Wii versions? That's one difference the article forgot to mention, that PS2/PC cutscenes aren't in realtime (they are FMVs recorded off GameCube).

Same thing with regards to the changed water, the removal of lighting effects, the lower polygon characters and objects - is it possible to change that all on the PC version?

That being said, this was a comparison from 2006, so back then the GC version (the lead platform version) would have been superior, especially as the PC version back then was not only based off the PS2 version but apparently a mess.

HolyOrangeCows4810d ago (Edited 4810d ago )

"GC version > PS2 version"

People made such a big deal about the PS2 version's slight graphical differences, and it ended up being the better version as a whole. The Ps2 had a bunch of GAMEPLAY fixes from the GC version, like that part where there is that orge (or whatever it is) in the narrow passage way, and they fixed it so that the rock that falls is in a not-nonsensical spot. The much sharper cutscenes were a MUCH bigger difference than the gameplay graphics. And as an added bonus, one disc only.

Shnazzyone4810d ago

Okay... you do know the cut scenes were essentially recordings of the scenes from the GC version resulting in requced quality right? Also PS2 version absolutely loses to wii version, wii version has all the content of the ps2 version plus well implemented motion plus it kept all the graphic quality of the GC version.

Also, for people touting the pc version.... keyboards SUCK!

fatstarr4809d ago

I always knew this. one of the best looking games of all time. it still impresses me to this day that the gamecube could pull it off.

browngamer44810d ago

It's about time somebody said it!-I loved the hell out of the gamecube version..and then a few months later my friend got it for his ps2 and was bragging about all the extra content and crap-and then i saw it and i had to laugh it looked like shit! What do people expect though it was built specifically for the cube and it shows!

ally123454810d ago

graphics comparisons for such an old game? is gameswelike.com that desperate for hits?

Agent Smith4810d ago

Yeah, seriously. Just a couple years late.

ThatEnglishDude4810d ago (Edited 4810d ago )

What do you think...look at the site.
What's odd is that their "latest updates" are written in 2009, meaning this article was probably written around the correct time - but is only now being posted here. The more troubling question is, how did this get approved?

kasasensei4810d ago

Someone stole the DeLorean!!

fatstarr4809d ago

Its time for something different.
i rather see some re4 stuff than some re5 shit for the 7millionth time.

ReservoirDog3164810d ago

I guess RE4 was just that* good that it's still relevant.

Right?

I should rebuy it for the wii...

jimbone794810d ago

I know right? I am going to get it after work for the Wii just because of this article.

RyuCloudStrife4810d ago (Edited 4810d ago )

did I just time travel again? If so in the future, in 2011 Killzone 3 will be coming out to kill the COD franchise!

Capcom Is 'Aware' of Dragon's Dogma 2 Frame Rate Issues on PC

Responding to a query about frame rate problems from IGN, Capcom said in a statement that performance issues on PC may be linked to the heavy amount of CPU demanded from NPCs in the game.

"In Dragon's Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and dynamically calculates the impact of their physical presence in various environments. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate," a Capcom representative told IGN. "We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future."

just_looken29d ago

What a load of bull there blaming the npc load for there poor performance? the new hitman games has way more going on beyond that they are saying any pc cpu is not powerful enough?

In the article it is also stated a ign reviewr got motion sickness playing ps5/pc version but still enjoyed it? like wow if that was me i would knock it down alot and asked for a patch asap.

So those about to play thank denuvo get a barf bucket if your on pc play 720p because like cites skyline its going to be a unoptimized cpu mess.

Man those on series s/steam deck/rog ally rip :(

just_looken29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Just putting up a pcgamer review

Man have we dropped that quality bar for acceptable performance/optimization

andy8529d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Am I hearing that right, that reviewer with a 4090 is getting drops into the 20s when there's several NPC on screen. Sorry but there's zero excuse for that. BG3 had hundreds at a time on screen and that's a pretty game. What an absolute piss poor engine

just_looken29d ago

@andy

Yes the is correct but every review is giving it a past and or saying that its great that the performance is like the first ps3/xbox one game.

2012 20-30fps 2024 20-30fps dragons dogma keeping things the same reviewers like that apparently

just_looken29d ago

IGN put up a video showing the 4090 struggling aswell as console performance all versions are like the first game with fps issues.Remember dlss 3.0 can almost double your fps like that cyber punk video so without dlss on your looking at 30fps on the most powerful gpu that is out right now.

Cacabunga29d ago

Capcom where is Deep Down???

Tapani29d ago

@andy85 At launch BG3 dropped to under 30fps at the final chapter on 4090. I played the game at launch and had that experience. And that was with a 5800X3D. Everything watercooled and fine-tuned CPU/GPU and memory at 32GB with good timings, and a fast SSD etc.

just_looken29d ago

@tapani

I am sorry are we comparing a AA game with a small budget with alot going on 24/7 to a AAA game funded buy the billion dollar capcom?

You are right yes but that was patched and that team loves there community but if the first dogma said anything we should expect a patch or 2 but that is it.

andy8528d ago

@Tapani indeed but that was hundreds of NPCs. Not a few. It's piss poor

lellkay29d ago

Can they be aware of the need for 60fps on consoles plz

just_looken29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Oh no kidding that "pro" model better have a 60fps mode.

But that ps5 pro PSSR will no doubt be a hold back as i see very few devs make a fsr/dlss/pssr game like really sony why did you spend millions to make upscale tech on the 6800 when amd already has fsr 3.0 just sitting there.

I remember the ps4 pro patches that dwindle over time yes new games had the modes but they were not standard and that was without the base ps4 using another upscale tech.

Edit:

In tldr form devs now make fsr upscale for ps5/xbox PSSR upscale tech on ps5 pro game then dlss/fsr upscale tech pc version and we also have intels xess just insane workload

Eonjay29d ago

'Oh no kidding that "pro" model better have a 60fps mode.'

Perhaps but only if Capcom addresses the issues first. substantially more powerful hardware is struggling.

Furesis29d ago

I mean it's not helping but this is something more than that. Plenty of games with denuvo that work fine

just_looken29d ago

That could be also taxing for sure sense the ps5 also supports that dreadful drm

This is also running off the RE engine remember those re vids with the denuvo drm on/off

MrDead29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Project Zomboid a simple looking isometric game has a similar problem as the Zombies are CPU heavy. If this is the issue GPU tweeks won't do anything, you need less calculations per NPC or more static NPCs

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH28d ago

Well that’s just great…looks like I’ll be holding off on buying this on PC until it’s fixed. If I wanted low frame rates I’d just buy it in console smh…

The 10 PSVR 2 Games You Should Own

If you're looking for 'must have' PSVR 2 games then look no further. These are the 10 titles every PSVR 2 owner should have in their library.

If you're wanting more PSVR 2 support, you should probably buy all of these games.

Speak with your wallet!

Profchaos32d ago

Bit rich to have to buy games you don't want because you want Sony to support the expensive headset they sold us which cost as much as the console it runs on beyond paying third partys to support it.
Seriously in terms of first party we have horizon on day 1 and a gt 7 vr mode.

They seemingly have made little effort to support it beyond paying Capcom to make re games in VR or a second party studio to make firewall which was mismanaged.

I'm a day 1 psvr2 user and the only thing I'm excited for right now is PC support.

I commented recently this bespoke VR game development model we have right now clearly doesn't work

crazyCoconuts32d ago

On the one hand I feel like there's been plenty of smaller non-AAA games to play and occupy me as a supplement to my flat screen gaming.
But I agree that Sony has done nothing to elevate this beyond the niche it's in and into the mainstream where it would be economical to create AAA games for it.

Babadook731d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Most of these games are worth owning for most people; I own all but 2 of them in fact. So I agree with kevco33. I think you're crazy if you downplay this list quite frankly. Sony can't keep funding software if people don't buy any of it, the ball is squarely in OUR court.

Sony has spent a lot on 3rd party stuff this gen like RE.

phoenixwing32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

Saving up for the headset is my first hurdle. Let alone buying games I don't want lol

mudakoshaka31d ago

People downvoting you for not having enough finances...what a world we live in, haha

phoenixwing31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

@mudako
They feel affronted at the very thought that I don't plunk down 500 immediately lol I have a little over 900 games in my backlog I've been buying games instead of hardware ever since I got my PC and ps5. I just don't know if vr is really for me honestly. Every time I have a couple hundred allocated to video games it makes more sense to buy a bunch of flat games instead of vr ones

mudakoshaka31d ago

I have 9 out of these 10 games. I try to buy all the VR games I like to support the advancement of VR!

TheEroica31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

I spoke with my wallet after watching the first headset get weak support. Easy pass until Sony earns my money. Feel bad for those who parted with 500 bucks, falling for the hype that Sony was actually gonna support this thing.

Neonridr32d ago

I own 7 of these titles off the list, lol.

NotoriousWhiz32d ago

I'm trying to decide if it's worth holding onto my psvr 2. I enjoy what it has currently, but it seems unlikely to get anything else. Might be better off just waiting for something with more support if that ever comes.

Profchaos31d ago

As a fellow psvr2 owner the question seemingly comes down to do you own a PC.

I think I'm all in I have a habit to hold onto my systems anyhow I still have my psvr1 to hell I still have my NES.

But while it's still worth something yeah you could sell it and if Sony turns the ship around you should be able to buy another one for less than you soldmit for I feel like we won't see any fix for the headset for the next 2 years rumours show that Sony has no current first party VR games in active development after they closed London studios

The whole psvr2 situation has left me feeling a little burnt on PlayStation as a whole to be honest. The first psvr felt experimental but it was supported far more than this superior headset

MIDGETonSTILTS1732d ago

GT7 surprised me, because I hate racing games, but i poured 100 hours into it way too quickly.

I’m looking forward to the Metro VR game this year, and I hope that WW2 dogfighter game releases eventually.

talocaca32d ago

I have most of them 😅

Waiting for a sale on Synapse and Arizona Sunshine 2.....also Metro coming this year looks great.
