Which version of Chaos Theory is Splinter Cell 3D based off?

Ah, good old Splinter Cell. It’s the only franchise out there that lets you roam around in the dark with night/thermal vision goggles and lets you off hapless henchmen in a variety of ways. Arguably, the best entry in the series is Chaos Theory. It originally came out on all the formats way back in 2005, but what version is the 3DS outing based on?

I really do hope it's based off the Xbox/PC version - otherwise I won't be forking £30 for it on launch day.

Same goes for the PS3 HD remake, of course!

I agree with you. The xbox version of chaos thory had better graphics than the ps2 version.

It was not even close. The Xbox version was vastly superior. This game and Chronicles of Riddick pushed Xbox1 hardware.

I agree with you guys, I had/still have all the Xbox versions and they are the best compared to PS2, but....

I dont think the poly count was any different for the two versions, and thats likely the only thing that remains in the remake.

Lighting, (the main area XB killed PS) textures, resolution, framerate and AA will all be improved anyway. The raw poly models are probably all that really gets carried over unchanged.

My point is either version, remade, should look the about same.

It's hardly a fair comparison - we haven't seen much of the PSP2's game lineup for a start. When the 3DS was announced most the games, with the exception of Metal Gear Solid 3 were all new, whether it was DJ Hero 3D, a new Professor Layton, Kid Icarus, Super Street Fighter IV 3D (new back then), Resident Evil Revelations, Pilotwings Resort and so on.

Even now there are plenty of new games made from the ground up for 3DS, such as Time Travellers, Layton Vs Phoenix Wright, The Mercenaries 3D, Dead or Alive Dimensions and so on (DoA uses the DoA 4 engine, though).

That's not to say we won't see any remakes on PSP2, but is that a bad thing? To see quality older games go portable with a new lick of paint?

It's not just the visuals that were changed though - whole chunks of levels were removed to fit for PS2/GC (the GC version had the same cuts PS2 did). I think it could not only be to do with different hardware but also the exclusivity Microsoft had with the franchise...look at Resi 4 - the PS2 version was inferior in many ways to the GC visually (lacked realtime lighting, less polygon counts on nearly all objects, no dynamic lighting, etc etc) http://www.gameswelike.com/... and yet the PC version was based off the PS2 version...
