Immersion said the new rumble that they wanted to incorporate in Sony's rumbless sixaxis was Touchsense. a new solution that ties both sony's style of motion sensing and and better level of force feedback than previous techs. I remember Immersion saying that this new kind of rumble would allow you to feel softer and more subtle varitions when Driving over grass verses driving on dirt and asphalt. as an example. this further was made to truth when IGN gave there recent impressions of DMC4 at TGS07 on the DS3... and I quote

"The largest adjustment, of course, was the inclusion of rumble for the demo. As one of the primary titles featuring rumble on the game floor for the PS3, it was nice to see the game showcase a variety of vibrations depending on the strike that you landed or the objects broken. It was also good to feel an extra kick when you were firing your guns, which was sorely missed in earlier versions of the game"...

The argument was that no rumble was a bad thing because six axis sucked. Allot of people said no rumble was okay because they liked sixaxis. Now those people have both. Basing a whole game around sixaxis maybe dumb but it is awesome to use on in game mini games it adds allot of depth. In short win win for them loss for fandroids.

The weight and the make is obviously the problem also. The PS3 controllers felt too hollow and too easily breakable. They needed to stiffen them up. I think the new DualShock 3 will do that.

for certain games it was annoying. I loved it for racing games, but when playing deathmatch when all you are doing is getting shot, the controller never stops vibrating. I started playing FPS on pcs and racing games on consoles. Obviously pcs don't have rumble.

Yeah... buying a new console and buying a new controller are two TOTALLY different things. I can still use the new controller with my old PS3... it's not like I can rip the HDMI off of the new 360 and put it on my old one. If this is true, the why didn`t Sony make some more rumble about it ? I mean, if they have some form of advanced rumble in Dual Shock 3, why not use it to their advantage over the 360 ? Some sort of "hey we`re the
company with real rumble" kind of announcement.

Still, i hope Shane is right though, a better rumble would maybe get me more excited about it. MGS-games have always made great use of it and having advanced rumble would benefit both MGS4 and (hopefully) other games as well.

Am I the only one who honestly does not care about rumble? I will not be rushing out to purchase these controllers. Hell, I will most likely get 2 more of the tilt only ones when they go on sale when the new ones come out.

I remember when Nintendo introduced the rumble pack for its N64 controllers, back with SF64. It was laughed at, and considered for the most part pointless, and then as more games started using it, and other controllers came standard with it, rumble somehow became must have.

I did not miss the rumble at all in the sixaxis, I love tilt, mostly for flow, but heavenly sword used it well also. It seems however that the lack of rumble was taken as a feature to rip on the PS3 though, and that is just sad.

But I digress, I think I am the minority.

That could be it, I may not be playing the games that utilize it to its fullest. I am mostly platformers(Jak/R&C/mario) and RPG's, not a big FPS or even TPS (I do not accept R&C as a TPS) fan, although warhawk was pretty savage and drakes fortune looks badass.

RPG's do not need rumble at all, and platformers do not really use it that well.

I havent played any MGS game, although I will most likely get the PS3 one, but that is most likely due to the hype :P

I'm thinking they've added more rumble in other parts of the controller, but not as strong as the previous ps2 rumble etc.

So it won't take up as much battery life, but it'll only rumble where its needed.

I noticed a few Xbox fans are claiming that most of the ps3 fans were saying they didn't like rumble, but now (since it’s been implemented once again) all of the sudden they do now. Granted, I am sure some of those guys lied by saying they didn't care about rumble; therefore, helping to justify the removal of it in the PS3, but that shouldn't be used as a generic sneer on other Playstation fans. I am sure many of the average PS2 gamers will want (maybe expect) rumble on the PS3 if they buy it.

like i said before,sony was lieing to us when they said that they couldn't put rumble and tilt in the same controller,the truth was that sony was sued for using rumble with out permission and they went to court and lost and they had to pay the company that invented it money and a percentage of the sales of the controller,and instead of paying the company the money that they owed them,sony decided to throw out the rumble in the ps3 controller and lie to us and say that they couldn't put both rumble and tilt in the same controller.the fact is that the same month that they said this someone showed a controller that had both tilt and rumble in it to show that it can be done.what sony did was pay what they owed the company so they could use the rumble and that's the truth.

Kid, you should know that in the corporate world, talking about court case on pending is strictly prohibited. This due to the fact that any statement can be use in court to against or fore one party or another. Every Sony executive knows about this fact, that why they have to work around it and come up with sixaxis.
