Ars Technia reviews Halo 3 Single-Player: 7/10

The score that follows is solely for the single-player campaign and not the product as a whole. Those picking up the title to play alone and offline are missing much of what makes Halo 3 a compelling product.

The Good:

* Solid and well-paced campaign
* Well-told story completes the trilogy, albeit with a rather mundane ending
* New weapons and vehicles expand on past games successfully
* Level design is well-conceived and varied
* Interesting A.I. and enemy design keeps fighting interesting

The Bad:

* Environments are deceivingly small
* Graphics won't blow you away
* Not all of the vehicles and weapons are used throughout the game
* Relatively short campaign on Normal difficulty

Ars Technia is not a gaming site so its review score is not counted by either GameRanking nor Metacritic.

Oh wait... this is the first time Ars Technia actually gives a score to a game! Since when did they start reviewing and scoring games??

its not the only website that gave it a low score.

Kotaku although it did not gave it a score they were not majorly thrill about the game. They did like the AI which is the high point of the game. I don't own it so I can't say much about the game but the fears of being Halo 2 with slightly better graphics have become a reality.

"But again, this doesn't really change the feel of the game. Halo 3 is Halo 2 with better graphics and better artificial intelligence. Mostly."

Kotaku a pro-PS3?
you mean pro Nintendo and 360.

But what about the other websites?

Kotaku is pro-PS3 all the way.

The strangest thing is that I had never seen Kotaku and Ars Technia reviewed a game, let alone giving it a score. Yet they are reviewing Halo 3 right now. Hm.

I didn't realize I was only buying Halo 3 the single player campaign. Wow if he would of rated warhawk he would have had to given it a zero for its lack of a single player campaign.

What a way to stir up controversy to get hits...

just a matter of time before the fanboys search down the worst reviews and post them.

I was wondering where the sony boys were hiding and I can see that they are all approving this one. :) 8-10 hours is perfect for me. Remember, 360 owners don't have a problem with 8-10 hours of gameplay. It's the sony boys that bashed us because Gears of War was only about 8 hours. But of course HS came out and ran only 6 hours quickly changing the stories of the sony idiots.

This game is completely OWNING ALL! GREAT times for us 360 owners!

They have to find some place to hide. The other reviews are killing them. I can't wait to play this game and I still don't have a 360.

but wrong to bag on Halo for the exact same merit? I've been playing HS for about 5 and a half hours, and I'm about 3/5 done with the story. Honestly though, it doesn't feel like I sat on the couch for over five hours; the story and progression are so good that I barely noticed.

Really, don't complain about length. Devil May Cry got perfect scores, and that sucker was barely 2 and a half hours long.

For the record, I have not bashed HS or any game. I just play what I like regardless of the hype, reviews and the other nonsense around this site. I am looking forward to playing it when I get a PS3 just as I do Halo 3 when I finally get a 360. However I do agree that some here at N4G have bashed HS due to it's length. The question is did it have it coming? Blu-ray has more space for developers right? HS is on Blu-ray and Halo 3 is still longer. I guess space does not matter if the devs are going to use it more for sound instead of making the games longer. Regardless of this I have yet to play either game so I can't really say much. I just know that blind fanboyism will not prevent me from enjoying good/great games on all consoles.
