Eurogamer: Test Drive Unlimited 2 Review

Eurogamer writes "It's been four and a half years since Lyon's Eden Games unfurled its manifesto for "massively open online racing" with the sprawling, quixotic Test Drive Unlimited – and like every year in the young industry of videogames, they've been long ones."

Can we make it an unwritten rule every TD2 review has to start with "After nearly 5 years of development" and then the game has to lose a couple points because of it.

Y'know, just for the sake of fairness.

Yeah...only this game was NOT announced 5 years ago and was NOT promised as a launch title to any system. All we know for sure is that the previous one was released a long while back.
So, no. Conspiracy Theory no go over here

It's been in development since 2007

These guys are the ones who created the cars that are in the current TDU. On their homepage, you will see that they have their "Track Record" displayed. On this track record, in the 2007 section, you will see Test Drive Unlimited 2. This means that Test Drive Unlimited 2 has been in development since 2007! This means the release will be sometime around 2009-2010. "

That's four years. If GT5 was criticised for a 5 year dev. time I don't see why TDU2 shouldn't be criticised for a 4 year one.

Plus in those 5 years PD was allegedly working on GT5 they also outputted GTHD, GTPSP and GT5P.
Its not like they were sitting on their hands.

In February 2006, Valve announced that they would be releasing a trilogy of episodes following Halflife 2. Using the GT hating rational I could say HL Ep3 has been in development for 5 years and nothings even been shown for it.

And the whole point of "Episodes" in the beginning was supposed to be so they came out every 6 months or so.

Looking back to 2011 and the Botched Launch of Test Drive Unlimited 2

Richard writes: "The series may have a cult following, but ten years on Test Drive Unlimited 2 still upsets me. It was one of my most anticipated games ever, with a concept years ahead of what Forza Horizon could achieve. But it remains one of the buggiest launches of a game I can remember, completely tarnishing my memory of it."

Such an underrated game, the only problem I had with it was the car physics on anything more powerful the a Golf GTI. But to me this was the original Forza Horizon

Cult Classics – Test Drive Unlimited 2

Game Informer - It's hard to imagine what to do in a car game except race other cars, and yet with Test Drive Unlimited 2, developer Eden Games found a way to expand the genre's horizons enough to offer an experience that's slightly different from your average racer. Eden's ambition came with a cost, but Test Drive Unlimited 2 is a game that I remember fondly and appreciate for the chances it takes.

This game gets a bad rap, but I enjoy it still. The idea was great, I think that if the devs were just better supported it could have been something truly epic.

Would love to see something like this again, especially on a next gen console.

anyone who knows what "cult" or "classic" means.
