Put your hand up if you played a first person shooter recently. Keep it up if it wasn't either of Halo or Call of Duty, or even Battlefield Bad Company. See I have a confession to make: I have played all the Halo but I have not played a single Call of Duty Game ever (except for the odd Call of Duty 4 match at the local LAN). Now before you start calling foul that FPS don't 'work' on consoles, I'm going to ignore you and say that 2011 is going to change all that.
Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."
Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.
Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.
Given the medium's wild diversity, this primer of the essential video games everyone should try is a good place to start.
I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.
Tomb Raider 1
Driver 1
Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG
LINK 2 the past
Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1
Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.
Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
Chris Brandrick, writing for overkill, speaks to Stefan Heinz, the lead developer on Portal: Revolution, a new fan-made campaign prequel to Portal 2.
valve suck so much at making games now, opting just to smaug on top of an enormous pile of money,
that fans got so desperate that they have to make their own games.
this industry is fucking over.
See, the great thing about sci-fi FPS is that they need very little story and can still be entertaining as heck. Just look at Doom, the released game hard hardly no story but hellspawn and one lone soldier for the hope of all living (un-demonic) things. Quake was pretty much the same plot, invasion of another dimension. Duke 3D was just a general alien invasion. All these games have massive guns, alone hero and hope, revenge as the driving force for the player. Serious Sam carried on this tradition, but with added parody, the joke was in the realistic historical environments at the time and the general chaos and how Sam didn't seem to mind. These games are better for the fact of very little story but 'ALIENS INVADE!'.
Personally for me, the world of the Sphere in Prey was by far the next evolution in sci-fi FPS after Halo, even then Halo tried to much to juggle FPS and vehicle driving. I prefer a good solid sci-fi shooter with chunky weapons and huge viewpoint, it's better when it doesn't take itself seriously too or when the character even exclaims how messed up the situation is.
The sci-fi shooter is where the FPS belongs, second world war and modern war shooter was a nice break, but it's time to go back to normal where it always proved to work in the past.
Exactly!!
Half Life 2 was where it was at when I left it. Homefront looks very much to carry that over to the current gen
